Dim Sums Smile Sep 21, 2013

I had lunch with my wife at Taste Paradise a couple of weeks ago. It is a really posh place and we walked in without reservations, so we had to wait around 30 minutes before we can get a table. Luckily, they are quite flexible in that they will get your number and you can walk around and when your table is ready, they will phone you. At Taste Paradise, the must order is the custard pau which comes in a basket of 3 paus. The custard is very savoury and sweet and care must be taken in eating it, if not you will risk wasting all the delicious flowy custard. The pau thickness is just right to contain the custard. This is my favourite item here. We also orderd the siew mai which comes in a basket of 4. The siew mai is rather ordinary, but I like that fresh ingredients are used instead of shirmp/meat paste as filling. I would say most of the items that we had are good, and dining in here is worth the price and wait. The bill came up to around $60 for a total of 8 dim sum items ordered, plus tea.

Teppanyaki  OK Sep 20, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Food Court | Japanese BBQ/Teppanyaki

This stall sells teppanyaki and during the time when I went, there is only one customer in front of me. I decided to try the beef teppanyaki. The serving of beansprouts is extremely generous and it is tasteless on its own but I mixed it with some of the sauces from the beef and it is quite nice. There is also a fried egg. I believe if you do not like runny yolks, you can ask them to ensure it is cooked. I like my eggs to be runny so I loved it the way it is. The beef is minced beef and it is very well seasoned, making it slightly salty. I am glad the beansprouts are tasteless if not the whole meal would have been overly salty.

Delicious grilled fish Smile Sep 20, 2013

Categories : Coffeeshop | Pasta | Steaks and Grills

I didn't realise there is an outlet of Astons Express here and I was glad that there is an outlet here because it meant that I could have western meal. I ordered the grill fish set. For my sides, I chose the house salad and the potato wedges. I think the potato wedges are freshly fried as it is exceptionally tasty and crispy. It is so good, I finished up all the wedges before starting on the grilled fish. The grilled fish is very soft and the fish just falls apart once I chewed on it. I think it could be even better than the ones that I had in restaurants as the texture of the grilled fish here is great. The house salad comprises of cabbage, shredded carrots and baby tomatoes. It is quite refreshing as it is chilled. It is a great dinner and I am looking forward to the next time I come here for dinner.

Chee Cheong Fun with fillings Smile Sep 20, 2013

Categories : Singaporean | Hawker Centre | Porridge/Congee | Brunch | Kids-Friendly

The chee cheong fun here is homemade and it has different fillings inside. It is my first time seeing a hawker centre chee cheong fun that has the option of adding fillings and I was curious enough to order a plate from them. I ordered the mixed plate which has 3 rolls of chee cheong fun, each with different fillings. The fillings are prawn, char siew and vegetables. Of the three, I like the chee cheong fun with prawns best as the prawns are rather crunchy. I wasn't used to the taste of chee cheong fun with vegetables, so that did not work for me. The one with char siew is just average because the char siew is not too nice and I found the char siew to be too fatty for my liking. The sauce on the plate was quite nice and goes well with the smooth chee cheong fun.

MOF Cry Sep 19, 2013
Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

After our meal at the foodcourt, we decided to have desserts to end off our meal. Since there is an outlet of MOF, we had our dessert there. I ordered the red bean dessert. I ordered mine plain with just dango but I think you can also have green tea ice cream on top of the red bean as well. There are five dangos in the dessert and the texture is rather bouncy and chewy. The red bean unfortunately is a let down because it is exceedingly sweet. I could not stomach beyong three mouthfuls because it is just too sweet. Luckily for the plain tasting dangos which could be used to eat together with the red bean, but after I have finished all the dangos, I just left the rest of the red bean untouched. I will definitely be staying away from this dessert in future.
