Pumpkin Soup Smile Sep 26, 2013

Just earlier this afternoon, I went to Soup Spoon for my lunch. During lunchtime, it is quite crowded and I had to share seats since this outlet is quite small and the seating capacity is smaller as well. I ordered the pumpkin soup. It is my first time trying out the soup. The condiments are the toasted almond nuts which is scattered on top of the soup. The soup is quite thick and rich and surprisingly tasty. I had expected it to be on the bland side, but the soup was rather sweet. I guess the sweetness is from the pumpkins that are used in the cooking. It is a great dip for the bread roll. The soup is also affordable, the regular size is $6.40.

I was at Great World City together with my wife and we had our lunch at the food court. We saw this store selling beancurd. The beancurd looks quite different from Lao Ban and it boosts health benefits as well from the collagen added. We decided to try a tub for ourselves to see the taste. There are a few different flavours, the original, the green tea, mango, almond and special. We bought the special one which is salted caramel beancurd. You can tell which flavour it is by looking at the cover of the tub - it is indicated with the tick. The beancurd is quite a small tub. I would think it is only around 60% the size of Lao Ban. The taste is quite good. It is very very smooth and there is a distinct taste of caramel. Those with sweet tooth will love this as I heard from the staff that this is sweeter than the rest of the other flavours. Each tub costs $2 and while it is slightly expensive, it is worth trying. We got 3 more tubs of the same flavour back for our children as it is that delicious.

Spending per head: Approximately $2

Jollibean Smile Sep 26, 2013

People who know me will know that I am a great fan of peanut. One of my favourite peanut snack is the peanut pancake from Jollibean. The peanut here is almost like peanut butter, like a spread. It is very generously applied on to the pancake and the filling is almost overflowing. The peanut pancake is very fragrant, I can smell it immediately when I open the box of pancakes. The peanut paste is thick and chunky and sweet. The pancake is quite thick, so the sweetness is just right for the pancake. It is very filling as well, I ate one and I was quite full after that. Between peanut and red bean, I would say go for the peanut!

Spring Roll Smile Sep 24, 2013

I very rarely eat spring rolls because I find them very greasy and also cold as it is fried and left out for quite a long while. However, since my friend wanted one, I got one for myself as well. The spring roll is indeed at room temperature, so I heated it up back at home. Once it is heated up, it tasted really good. The spring roll exterior is very crispy and the fillings inside are flavourful and not too greasy. The fillings still have some crunch in them as well, which made it have more bite. Although I haven’t eaten too many spring rolls before, but this is one of the nicer ones of those I have tried before.

Mr Bean pancakes OK Sep 23, 2013

A month ago, during National Day, I bought a total of some pancakes from Mr Bean back home after the parade. I bought 6 pancakes, 2 cheese, 1 peanut, 1 kaya, 1 red bean and 1 caramel custard so that everyone in my family can have one each. I guess it is because it is National Day, the takeaway bags was printed in red ink. My children chose the flavours first, leaving the kaya and cheese and red bean. I ate the red bean pancake. The red bean filling is very sweet. Luckily, the pancake is quite thick so overall it is still ok. The red bean filling is a mixture of mashed red beans and some bits of red bean skin are still mixed in the filling. For people with sweet tooth, I would recommend you to get this, if not, maybe you can try the other flavours as it is really quite sweet. The pancakes range from $1.20 onwards.
