Mushroom Soup Smile Sep 17, 2013

My wife and daughter wanted to eat at The Soup Spoon, so I decided to go along with them as well. The Soup Spoon has a total of 8 regular soups and 3 chef specials soup at any one month that you go. I didn't really like the chef's specials for the month, so I went ahead and ordered the mushroom soup instead. The mushroom soup seems to be quite a popular choice as I saw quite a few patrons having the same soup as well. I am not a big fan of mushroom but even I was wowed by the taste. The soup is full of chunky mushrooms which includes button mushrooms and some other types which I can't really identify but are nonetheless delicious. The soup itself is also not too creamy, there is a good balance so I had no problems with finishing the entire bowl of soup myself. The soup is also good for dipping the bread in as it is thick enough and I even had another piece of bread at 70 cents to soak up every bit of the delicious mushroom soup.

Mango cake Smile Sep 17, 2013

Categories : Bakery

As it is my son's birthday, I went to look for a birthday cake after work. I decided to get the birthday cake from Breadtalk at CityLink since I will need to pass by then I walk to the MRT station. My son loves mango so the natural choice for me was to get the Mango cake. The cake is quite large, I think it can feed up to 10 people. The presentation of the cake is great as well with the large chunks of mango on top of the cake. The mango chunks are sweet tasting as well and it is surrounded by white chocolate. The cake itself is also nice. There are layers of vanilla cake and mango mousse and it is fragrant on the mango taste. Mango lovers will definitely love this cake.

Genki Sushi Smile Sep 16, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

Genki Sushi is a place which I will highly recommend all to go because of its very interesting conveyor belt. The food orders arrive in little trains and it is really interesting to watch. Moreover, fun aside, the food is also up to the mark. All of the dishes that we ordered are all to our liking. The salmon sushi comes in 3 slices and each is a delight, the salmon is fresh and the rice is delicious. Besides the salmon, we also love the Seared black pepper crab. The taste is quite unique and the price is very affordable as well, at just $2.30. Another dish which I love was the chawanmushi. I like that there is not too much of water in the egg custard as I cut into it and also because the chawanmushi is very very smooth. I will definitely come again!

Hong Kong Sheng Kee dessert  OK Sep 16, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Chinese Desserts | Desserts and Cakes

We dropped by Hong Kong Sheng Kee for some dessert as the menu looked enticing. Their specialty seems to be mango as there are many mango based desserts on their menu. Besides desserts, they also have chinese food like wanton noodles and dim sum items as well so it is quite comprehensive. I ordered the black sesame paste as I wanted to have something warm. The black sesame paste costs $3.30. It arrived quite shortly after I ordered, probably because the server only had to dish it out from the pot. The black sesame paste is quite ordinary. In terms of taste, it is rather sweet and the black sesame fragrance was not that strong. Also, the paste is not as thick as I hoped it would be, it seems to be more watered down. I guess maybe I should stick with trying their signature mango desserts instead next time.

Fried noodles OK Sep 16, 2013
Categories : Malay | Coffeeshop

This has revamped its store front recently and the stall seemed to have changed hands as well as the owners are no longer there. There is another bee hoon stall opposite but this stall has a shorter queue so I ordered from this stall since I was rushing for time. I ordered the fish fillet together with my mixture of noodle and kway tiao. The kway tiao is rather oily though it is very tasty. As for the noodles, in contrast, it is quite dry and hard and it is not very nice. I am glad I added the fish fillet as it was just fried and it was warm especially tasty. There are also other ingredients like otah, luncheon meat, fishcake and more. However, I will only buy from this stall if I am rushing for time since I find that the noodles are not up to standard.
