Dim Sums Smile Sep 21, 2013

I had lunch with my wife at Taste Paradise a couple of weeks ago. It is a really posh place and we walked in without reservations, so we had to wait around 30 minutes before we can get a table. Luckily, they are quite flexible in that they will get your number and you can walk around and when your table is ready, they will phone you. At Taste Paradise, the must order is the custard pau which comes in a basket of 3 paus. The custard is very savoury and sweet and care must be taken in eating it, if not you will risk wasting all the delicious flowy custard. The pau thickness is just right to contain the custard. This is my favourite item here. We also orderd the siew mai which comes in a basket of 4. The siew mai is rather ordinary, but I like that fresh ingredients are used instead of shirmp/meat paste as filling. I would say most of the items that we had are good, and dining in here is worth the price and wait. The bill came up to around $60 for a total of 8 dim sum items ordered, plus tea.

Not worth the price paid Cry Sep 20, 2013

Actually I am not really sure what this dish is called as my son placed my order for me, but I guess you can look out for salmon and rice on their menu. The dish is served in a hot plate and there is some sort of gravy poured over the rice which makes the rice really fragrant. The slice of salmon is quite small, and perhaps it is on the hot plate, the salmon ended up being rather hard as it seemed to be slightly overcooked. The egg on top of the rice is runny and it is perfect for me as I could break the egg and let the rice soak up the delicious egg york. Overall, while the taste is quite alright except for the salmon being slightly tough, I felt that it is not worth the price of ~$8 as the portion of salmon is quite small.

A while back, I was at Maxwell for lunch. It is my first time trying out Hong Kong ibean. The ibean logo looks similar to mrbean so I took a second look when I saw the logo at first. On closer look, there are a total of 5 different flavours - original, almond, strawberry, durian and green tea flavours. I ordered the original flavour which costs $1.50. The other flavours cost $2/$2.50 if I am not mistakened. It seems like quite a lot of beancurd stalls are popping up and actually to me, I felt that the taste is about the same, just that the level of sweetness is different for different stalls. I quite enjoyed the beancurd here because I felt it is not as sweet as the chilled beancurd from other beancurd stalls that I had. On a hot day, I think having such dessert is really refreshing and cooling.

Olive fried rice  Smile Sep 20, 2013
Categories : Thai

I don't really take spicy and sourish foods so I ordered the olive fried rice (Khao Ob Nam Leab) instead of having tom yum with rice like what my dining companion ordered. The olive fried rice is fried with chicken meat as well as black olives. It is interesting that I do not like eating black olives, but when it is fried together with the rice, somehow the taste is much more appealing and tasty. The grains of rice are all separate and not clumpy and it is very tasty even though it is just rice. The pieces of chicken meat in the rice are also tender and well seasoned, though I would prefer if they add more chicken as I find the portion of chicken to be quite little. For those who love spice, there is also a saucer of chili which you can add to your rice to make it spicier.

Wu Xiang Smile Sep 20, 2013

I met up with my friend for supper at one of the coffee shops near to his house. We ordered wu xiang to eat while we chatted. The wu xiang here is quite nice, there are a lot of ingredients that we could choose from. We ordered the ngor hiang, taiwanese sausage, tau kwa and a couple of other fried stuff which we are not quite sure of but took it because it looks nice. Most of the ingredients that we chose are still crispy even though it probably has been fried for some time. I love the ngor hiang the best of all because the ngor hiang's taste is the most savoury. The taiwanese sausage is not really to my liking as it felt too artificial and too salty. We did not order beehoon but if you want it to be more filling, you can order beehoon.
