No sesame fragrance Cry Sep 19, 2013

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Chinese Desserts | Desserts and Cakes

I tried out the desserts at Honeymoon Dessert last weekend. There are a lot of different desserts from hot to cold and there are also different categories of desserts available from ice cream to beancurd to pastes etc etc, you will definitely be spoilt for choice. I am a traditional person so I still preferred the traditional desserts. I got the sesame paste for myself. I felt that the sesame taste somehow seems to be lacking that day, the paste is just not fragrant enough. The paste is still rather thick but it was a disappointment because the sesame flavour did not come out. I hope it is just a once off incident since I have had this before previously and it was good.

Turtle Soup  Smile Sep 19, 2013

Categories : Hawker Centre | Chinese Soup

The turtle soup here is supposedly quite nice so my wife and I decided to try it. The minimum cost is $8 so we ordered the $8 portion since we had something to eat before coming down. There is yam rice available at 70 cents or white rice if you prefer white rice. The turtle soup is quite strong and robust in taste and it is quite nice. For better flavour, the chinese rice wine is added which helps to lift the taste entirely. The turtle meat is quite firm and has a springly texture. I like to dip it in the tangy chili sauce to give it more flavour. Overall, I think it is quite a refreshing change from the normal soups and something you should try if you havent tried before.

Bread Bowl Smile Sep 19, 2013

I went to Swensen's with my colleagues for lunch just yesterday. I saw another customer having the bread bowl which looks very warming to the stomach so I decided to order that as well. The bread bowl is made using sourdough bread which is much healthier and tastier than normal white bread. I opted for the clam chowder soup for my bread bowl. The clam chowder has clams, bits of carrots, potatos in it. The soup is quite delicious. It is not too thick or diluted and the soup is also not too overly creamy such that you get sick of the taste after a few mouthfuls. I had no difficulty in finishing the soup as the sourdough bread bowl is a good pairing to the taste of the creamy soup. It is very filling, so I would advise ladies to share if they do not have a large appetite.

Spending per head: Approximately $12

Riverside Indonesian BBQ  Smile Sep 19, 2013

This stall always had perpetual long queues during lunch time. The good thing is that the queues move quite fast so the waiting time is not as long. I ordered a grilled chicken set. The set comes with a serving of grilled chicken thigh, egg, cabbage and soup. The chicken thigh is always the highlight of the dish with its tender and moist flesh. The seasoning used was perfect, resulting in the meat being very flavourful. Normally, I will request for curry to be poured over my rice as their curry is also very good - not too thick and it is very fragrant. Their chili is also very good and I will normally dip the egg into the chili.

Spending per head: Approximately $6

MOF Cry Sep 19, 2013
Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

After our meal at the foodcourt, we decided to have desserts to end off our meal. Since there is an outlet of MOF, we had our dessert there. I ordered the red bean dessert. I ordered mine plain with just dango but I think you can also have green tea ice cream on top of the red bean as well. There are five dangos in the dessert and the texture is rather bouncy and chewy. The red bean unfortunately is a let down because it is exceedingly sweet. I could not stomach beyong three mouthfuls because it is just too sweet. Luckily for the plain tasting dangos which could be used to eat together with the red bean, but after I have finished all the dangos, I just left the rest of the red bean untouched. I will definitely be staying away from this dessert in future.
