Mr Bean pancakes OK Sep 23, 2013
Categories : Desserts and Cakes

A month ago, during National Day, I bought a total of some pancakes from Mr Bean back home after the parade. I bought 6 pancakes, 2 cheese, 1 peanut, 1 kaya, 1 red bean and 1 caramel custard so that everyone in my family can have one each. I guess it is because it is National Day, the takeaway bags was printed in red ink. My children chose the flavours first, leaving the kaya and cheese and red bean. I ate the red bean pancake. The red bean filling is very sweet. Luckily, the pancake is quite thick so overall it is still ok. The red bean filling is a mixture of mashed red beans and some bits of red bean skin are still mixed in the filling. For people with sweet tooth, I would recommend you to get this, if not, maybe you can try the other flavours as it is really quite sweet. The pancakes range from $1.20 onwards.

Chicken Rice  Smile Sep 23, 2013

Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Hawker Centre | Chicken Rice

I ordered a plate of chicken plus one braised egg from Xing Yun Hainanese Chicken rice for sharing with my wife. I thought it is quite special that this stall uses tomatoes as the "garnishing" instead of cucumber. The chicken here is really tender and soft. The chicken skin is quite bouncy and has a very springy texture which I love. THe gravy here is not too saltish and it helps to enhance the taste of the chicken. The chili here is also very nice, not too spicy and if you can take chili, I will recommend that you dip the chicken into the chili for a better taste. Lastly, the rice. I personally quite like the rice here as it is not too oily and yet still very fragrant. Overall, I enjoy the food and will be back. I can't really remember the price but it is around $10 for the both of us.

Curry rice OK Sep 23, 2013
Categories : Japanese

During one of our meetings with the client, we had Sushi Tei for lunch as a mini celebration for a job well done. I avoided having the raw dishes as I had a slight stomach upset a yesterday, hence I decided to take the opportunity to try the Curry chicken rice. I have not eaten japanese curry before so I did not really know what to expect of the taste. I would say the curry is rather sweet and poles apart from the chinese curry taste. The curry is sweet and savoury and it is not too thick as well. The chicken is quite tender and succulent and the portion is sufficient for me. There are also carrots and onions which are stewed together with the chicken. These vegetables are soft and mashy and has absorbed the curry flavour after hours of stewing. While the taste is alright, personally I still preferred the taste of the chinese curry, so I will probably not order this in future.

Tang Yuan dessert OK Sep 22, 2013
Categories : Food Court

Last month, I had dessert at FEAST in the new wing of Jurong Point as I wanted to have tang yuans and I didn't think that the desserts shops at Jurong Point has it. I ordered a bowl of 5 tang yuans in total. I forgot how much it cost but it should be around $2. The soup is rather special and does not taste like any ordinary sweetened soup. The taste is a little sweet and savoury. The tang yuan is quite normal though, it tastes like what my wife cooks for us using the store bought frozen tang yuans from supermarkets. The flavours given to me are peanu and red bean which are the common standard flavours. However, for the unique taste of the sweet soup, I will not mind buying from them again.

Ee Mian OK Sep 22, 2013
Categories : Coffeeshop | Noodles

My friend and I had dinner at this coffee shop. I ordered my dinner from the ban mian stall, opting for the ee mian instead of my usual ban mian for a change. The ee mian noodles is more flavourful than the ordinary ban mian as the ee mian is deep fried before. As I chose the normal soup, this results in the soup being slightly more flavourful than my friend's soup as he had gotten the ban mian. The ingredients like the minced meat and vegetables are quite substantial. I find the minced meat here to be quite tasty as it is soft and it has enough taste. The ban mian costs $3, it is more expensive for tom yum soup ban mian.
