Bee hoon Goreng OK Sep 19, 2013
Categories : Indian | Hawker Centre

I was rather intrigued by the red bee hoon that I see on other tables so I decided to try it for myself to see how it tasted like. The person at the stall said that it was fried with mutton and tomato and other spices which gives the bee hoon the bright red colour. When I know it costs $3.50, I thought it is rather expensive but later I realised that the portion is actually quite large and I had a little difficulty finishing it. The bee hoon is very tasty with the spices that went into cooking it. It is also very lightly spicy and the bee hoon used had quite a bit of bite in them. It is a little greasy though, so it is best to share it. Even though the portion is large, it is still a little expensive as it is only bee hoon fried with some vegetables and there is no meat.

Yoshinoya Beef Bowl Smile Sep 19, 2013

Categories : Japanese

I have never been to Yoshinoya before and my colleague recommended that I order their beef bowl which he said was quite good. The beef bowl had very thinly sliced beef and besides beef, there is also a serving of vegetables together with the beef on the bowl. I must say the beef is tender because it is sliced very thinly. It is also very tasty and I love the onions as well! I normally do not like onions but I find the onions here to be very nice as it had absorbed the seasoning of the beef and it is now very soft and without the stinging taste. The beef bowl is rather filling because of the rice and I wasn't hungry all the way from lunch until dinner.

Carrot Cake OK Sep 19, 2013

It has been quite long since I had black carrot cake hence I decided to order it when I saw that this stall sells it. There are two people in the queue in front of me and they both ordered carrot cake as well. After 10 minutes, my order is ready. The black carrot cake is fried very nicely with the sweet black sauce. The taste is consistent through the dish as it is mixed very well. The amount of egg that went into cooking the carrot cake is also quite generous as I could taste eggs in almost every bite of the carrot cake. The chili sauce is not that nice, it would be better if it is spicier so that it is a contrast to the sweet black carrot cake. This is the $3 portion that I ordered.

Satisfying lunch Smile Sep 19, 2013

Categories : Chinese | Food Court | Rice

I was visiting one of my brother who is staying in Punggol and I decided to have lunch here first before going up his house. The dishes here are quite nice and it looks very attractive. I ordered three dishes, french beans, fried tau kwa and black pepper beef. The total cost is $4 if I am not wrong because of the beef. I find that the beef is quite flavourful, there is no beef stench and the beef is rather tender. The black pepper taste compliments the beef cubes very well. The french beans are quite oily but otherwise ok. The tau kwa is quite normal, but the sourish sweet sauce was rather appetising. It is a very satisfying lunch.

Xiao Long Bao Smile Sep 18, 2013

Categories : Shanghainese | Hawker Centre | Ramen

I have heard about a stall selling xiao long bao for only $5 in Chinatown but have not gotten down to trying it until today. The xiao long bao costs $5 for 10 pieces which I think is one of the cheapest xiao long bao that you can find. The xiao long bao are made fresh on the spot and the xiao long bao is actually quite large. The xiao long bao skin thickness is just right, thick enough to hold all the soup of the xiao long bao and yet not too thick until it affect the taste of the xiao long bao. The soup is very tasty and although it does not rival that of din tai fung, it is still worth coming here for a cheaper xiao long bao craving. There are also vinegar and shredded ginger available which you can add to your xiao long bao.
