Oh, So Sweet Chocolate! Smile Dec 24, 2013

My friend and I met up for dinner, and chose a really sucky restaurant. We just had to erase the memory from our minds so we had dessert at TCC. We chose the Puffy Triplets - it's made of three scoops of decadent chocolate ice cream sandwiched between profiteroles. It was pretty indulgent... sweet and really good! To combat the chocolate flavour, I had a sour drink and it paired really well.

Service was quite efficient too. They have this thing on their tables. If you want the waiters to approach you, you can just press the button. the options are: bill, order, and something else.

So Ordinary Curry Chicken OK Dec 24, 2013

Categories : Thai | Restaurant | Steaks and Grills | Kids-Friendly

I didn't think that Orchard would be crowded on a Wednesday night; so I didn't make a reservation for dinner. But boy, was I so wrong (note to self: never underestimate the Christmas rush). Most of the restaurants were packed! So, my friend and I just settled for Bangkok Jam at Wheelock.. We had to queue for about 30 mins though to get seats.

Anyway, I ordered the Curry Chicken with rice. It wasn't spectacular, coming from a restaurant which boasts of serving authentic Thai food. It was just too spicy that you can't really taste anything else. I think there were also a few tiny pieces of chicken. I've had better.

My friend is migrating to Australia in January. And before she leaves Singapore, she invited us all to have a late brunch/lunch/snack t Drury Lane. She picked this place because it's near her yoga studio, ambiance is said to be quite cool, plus the "pay as you wish" muffin is also an attractive marketing strategy.

So we went to this hipster cafe at around 3pm. We reserved in advance, so we didn't have to worry about having to wait for a table. When we entered the cafe, the waitress gave us the menu and showed us to our seats upstairs. As soon as we sat down, we checked the menu and saw how limited the options were. I'm not too sure if it's because of our timing (3pm) but I didnt see any pasta or whatnot on the menu. So, I settled on the Chicken Avocado Sandwich ($8) and the Brown Coffee ($5.50). Oh, I also had the banana walnut muffin.

So the sandwich came and at first, I was impressed because it looked quite big. And then, I saw what's inside and I was extremely disappointed. There were only a few pieces of chicken (which for me, seemed tandoori flavoured) and avocado. The bread was tough, too. Even though I was hungry, I still didnt manage to finish it. The coffee was not bad. The best of them all was the muffin - soft and moist.

I don't know if the cafe was just having a bad day that time, but seriously... they could do better. They already got the ambience most cafe lovers are looking for... they just need to improve the food.

My friend dropped by Orchard for lunch, so he invited me to lunch. He said he wanted to eat something filing, and since he was gonna pay for it, I brought him to Marmalade Pantry in ION. I ordered my ultimate favourite item there - the crab meat linguini. For me, this is the best dish they have on the menu. I can have it all day, everyday... breakfast, lunch, or even dinner.

On that day, the service was quite fast. In less than 15 minutes, I received my order hot and fresh. As always, it was just topped with a lot of crab meat flakes. You can easily tell that they didnt scrimp on the ingredients because the smell would just envelope your nose once it's set in front of you. The pasta was cooked just right. It wasn't soggy and it still had that bite. Plus there was more than enough sauce on the plate. And of course, the pine nuts added a different character and texture to this item. It was just the complete combo. When my friend tried it, he agreed that it was sooo good. He liked it so much, we ended up sharing the Crabmeat linguini. Oh well, he was the one who paid for it...

Filling Pasta Dinner  Smile Nov 22, 2013

Categories : American

My former colleague wanted to meet up for dinner, so we met up one Friday night. Both of us were craving for pasta, so we chose to dine at O'Coffee Club. But since we wanted a different setting, we went all the way to Raffles Place. It's not an al fresco place, which was a nice change. From what I rememberm the outlet is also bigger than Orchard's.

We shared the Slipper Lobster Linguini since from experience, I'm never able to finish their pasta dishes. It's just gigantic! It was topped with one medium-sized slipper lobster, cut in half. The sauce is tomato based but it wasn't heavy. It was actually quite refreshing to eat. My friend and I enjoyd this dish. We also ordered an appetiser to share.
