Worth the 40 minute walk Smile Aug 20, 2013

Categories : Restaurant | Burgers and Sandwiches | Brunch

I had been reading about this new brunch place at Bishan Park called Grub. Since it is just near my house, my roomate and I decided to go and check it out this past Sunday morning. So we woke up early and walked to Bishan (it was just a 10 minute walk). As it turned out, Bishan Park is massive and consists of two parts, one is near my place and the other one is almost at Marymount. Can you just imagine how far it is?

Anyway, we didn't know it then and we kept on walking and walking till we reached the place after 40 freaking minutes! But at least when we got there, there were still a few empty tables so we didn't have to wait. I ordered the Grub cheese burger and lime juice first.

The burger was really affordable - it was like $11 only, and it came with fries. The beef patty for me was just the right size. It wasn't so thick that you would have a hard time eating it already. It was sandwiched in between two buns with mayo and ketchup The cheese was soo melted that it seemed to be part of the patty already. Sooo GOOD! The lime juice was ok, it seemed like there was 80 percent water and 20 percent lime.

Once I was done with my burger - I ordered dessert. I read in a blog that some people drop by this place just for this dessert. It was also quite good even though the chocolate tasted like those powdered ones. There was another sauce, the creme anglaise, which had a slight tangy taste...

I dont know if my hunger from walking for 40 minutes has affected my tastebuds, but I think the food at Grub are really worth praising. It's comfort food which you can enjoy within the lush and green Bishan garden. And the prices are very reasonable too. Two thumbs up!

Just recently, Marina Square revamped its mall to include more dining options - such as the Carnivore Appetite. It's a buffet restaurant which highlights the meats (but you'll pretty much have an idea with the name). When I went there on the opening day, there were quite a few choices from lamb, chicken, to beef.

There's more than just meats here, they also have a salad bar where you can mix and match different ingredients to suit your palate. Go further and you will see other choices. I especially liked the caramelised pineapple which I think was roasted for a few minutes. Oh and you also have to try the meaty sausage there... So good....

Desserts were apleanty, but I couldn't eat anymore. I was so full from all the savourty items.

Nice Place to Chill OK Aug 16, 2013

I was lucky enough to try out this restaurant atop one of the supertrees at Gardens by the Bay. The night I dropped by, they were having a special cheese and wine event. Need I mention that it was packed.. mostly with expats who, I guess, miss the wine and cheese from their countries.

There were about 5 types of cheese there and 4 different wine labels to pair with each other. There were also a few snacks if you needed to take a break from eating cheese. Hmm. What I can say about the cheese - well, there weren't really a lot of choices. It seemed like a section in one of the buffets with a cheese spread. Although, I enjoyed trying out all of them. The wines tasted very potent and was at their best. Went well with the cheese. good.

But I would have to say that the view was the one which really captured my attention (not the food and drinks). It was the best vantage point to see the MBS hotel, flyer, etc. It's definitely a place to a break away from the city...

Pie for Lunch Smile Jul 29, 2013

I dropped by The Grandstand after yoga class. There were so many food choices there so, we decided to just have lunch there since it was already past 12 and we were starving. My friend recommended me Pies & Coffee so I suggested that we try out that place.

It was such good luck that there weren't a lot of people there, so there were seats we could occupy. I ordered the Chicken Cheddar pie which cost $9.60 (with gst). It came with veggies and mashed potatoes with sauce.

Its version of the mashed potatoes was the not so finely mashed one. You can still see and feel that its still a bit lumpy - but it was still very good. Especially with that sauce mixed with it. The veggies were also quite nice.

As for the pie, I didn't expect it to be very filling. When I got my order, I thought I would still be hungry after eating it, but it was filled with chicken and potatoes. I wished it would've been much cheesier - because I ordered Chicken Cheddar. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed my lunch at Pies and Coffee.

What a Filling Dinner Smile Jul 26, 2013

Categories : Burgers and Sandwiches

After a very strenuous dance work out last night, I was (as always) starving. So my colleague and I looked for a place where we can have a very filling dinner which was not so pricey. And so, we settled on The Rotisserie. We were there at about 9pm, which was just in time since it closes at 10pm.

Anyway, I ordered the specialty - grilled chicken. For only $11.50, it came with three side dishes of your choice. I had potato salad, potato, and corn. I told you - I was hungry. Anyway, as soon as I paid I collected my order....The chicken was fully drenched in gravy. Just the mere thought of it makes me so hungry. And the flavour seeped in through the meat. I enjoyed it very much. Same with the 3 side dishes - I was pretty full after a very hearty dinner at The Rotisserie.
