don’t get MAD, get even! Smile Nov 30, 2012

My friend and I were choosing a resto where to eat dinner, and then Mad Jack at Bukit Timah blew our craving on their claim of tallest burger in town – Blue Mountains!

The staff were very polite, the service were good and then bang with the food!

Yes, Blue Mountains is tall, it’s loaded of patties, pineapple, cheese, lettuce, etc. The serving is okay for sharing same as the price at is is too overpriced! The patties were below average for me. Not even juicy, tender, it tasted so bland and boring, nothing so special that you will come back for! But I have to give credit on their fries that comes on a side of the burger. The fries are really tasteful that compliment with their choice of Heinz Ketchup and Mayo.

Oh and by the way, there was no service charge and they are not serving house water. You have to order drink for yourself at the counter.

I just like Mad Jack’s creative ideas on their plate quote, ref magnet, etc.

I left with a so-so overall experience but brought home a quote and shared with friends to “don’t get MAD, get even!

Old time Jack's Place Smile Nov 30, 2012

Categories : American | Steaks and Grills

Jack's place has always been a special place to dine for many years now.
Jack's has been around for quite a long time.
I recall that it has been around since my secondary school days.

Nowadays, the menu has been revamped to include upscale and exotic items like lobster.
However we settled for the more mundane ones as we were not adventurous enough, yet!

We started with homemade Mushroom soup with Garlic Bread.
Of course, the soup is a speciality of this restaurant and a must-have!
For drinks we got a pot of Twinings Peach Tea - full of flavour and a lingering fragrance indeed. One pot is enough for two to share.

We ordered two sides - Calamari rings and Mixed Garden salad.
The Calamari rings were great with the tartar sauce on the side. Likewise, our favourite dressing for the salad was thousand island. The salad was fresh and contains cruchy lettuce. capsicum, pineapple slices, olives and tomatoes.

I decided on something more traditional - Fried Rice with seafood.
It was ok, nothing really extra special about it, though.
Perhaps Jack's main plus is in western, and, not local foods.
The Lamb Chops did not disappoint, they were delicious and full of flavour.
The mint sauce was an added complement to the dish.

Overall the food was good and the ambience was cozy.
However, the restaurant, with its traditional decor, is looking a little old-fashioned and not as new and fashionable as a new restaurant. After all this location is quite a new one. Perhaps something could be done to spruce up the decor a little.

For the prices charged, I feel the restaurant could be made more cozy.
The staff are prompt and attentive. They are always around to assist and advise!

Grilled Steak  Smile Nov 30, 2012

Look at the steak. Yes, juicy and tender good looking food tempting you to eat it. It may be just a little bit over cooked that caused it to be a little bit elastic but overall still really good.
The sauce, packed with what perhaps is sodium complements the steak, but it will be better if it is less saltier as it taste overwhelming salty, to me.
The greens could be served without any dressing and save up the extra calories. Moreover, I prefer greens without dressing. The prawn may look a little bit dry on the outside, but the flesh is cool - it is not very fresh but it is soft. . Better if it could be fresh because more juice will be present in it .
The spaghetti however, I don't really enjoy it as it is too hard for me to chew. It is also precisely tasteless if it is eaten alone. But, this flaws can be overlooked if you eat it together with the sauce or meat .
The staffs there are friendly, they smile to you. But there are times where they talk too much and not noticed the customers that are looking to order their food. ~ can be improved with much efficiency.

Economical French Fare Smile Nov 20, 2012

Was here with my wife for lunch today and luckily we went earlier before the lunch crowd has swamped the place. Overall, the ambience was very cozy and well decorated, especially those bulbs that compliment the restaurant name "Saveur" with a few pot-holes on the wall.
The price stated on the menu are very much economically priced and portions are quite generous.

Ordered their signature '"Duck Confit", presentation was very nicely done, and the meat itself is well-cooked. You could easily shred the meat with a fork. Pairing up with mash potatoes and chinese mushrooms, this dish is simply delicious.

Next up, "SAVEUR’S PASTA"
A signature of Saveur’s, pasta tossed with chili oil, fine-chopped Japanese konbu & sakura ebi with
minced pork sauce. for just $4.90, it comes with large portion of spaghetti and sparing topping of sakura ebi.
A must visit for french food lovers and a economical place for french cuisine try-outs.

Great Meat meets Tasty Spaghetti. Smile Nov 14, 2012

Categories : Steaks and Grills

Was here with my colleagues for a team lunch. Been here a couple of times and really like the variety of meat and spaghetti.
Personally, i am a fan of aglio olio, thats why this place is one of my favourite as it combines big portions of meat and spaghetti.

The best part about this place is that you get to add a combo onto your main course which comes with a soup and garlic bread.

Even its combo platter comes with such a big portion that could feed 2.

Overall, the experience here is very good. A definite recommendation if you're looking for good western food with reasonable price and huge portions. smile
