no 2 curry puffs OK Dec 18, 2012
Categories : Singaporean | Stall / Kiosk | Curries

1A vs Old Chang Kee vs Tip Top curry puffs. This is rank 2 of my favorite curry puffs, following behind Tip Top curry puffs.
While it might not beat Tip Top, I do admit that 1A's curry puffs are indeed the most crispy out of all. The crust is fragrant and the fillings are spicy enough for me. It is definitely a close fight with Tip Top and it's biggest advantage over all othe competitors are indeed it's crispy skin.
Why does it lose to Tip Top? I find that it is slightly more oily and expensive than Tip Top.

This branch at Jurong point is slightly difficult to find but it retains the same taste as all 1A puffs in Singapore. I recommend it as the choice of curry puff if one cannot find Tip Top puffs, or one would like a change from Tip Top / OCK.

a mess that taste good OK Dec 18, 2012
Categories : Coffeeshop

As unappetizing as this dish looks, it actually tastes incredible. With the traditional hainanese curry sauce and the savoury sauce from the stewed pork mixed together with rice and all the other ingredients, it creates a tasty explosion of flavours in your mouth.

I love the curry chicken wings they serve here as it is cooked till the meat just simply falls off the bones when you bite into it. No effort is required at all.

The hainanese fried pork chop is a little dry, but I guess it adds texture admidst the gloopiness of the sauces. Depending on my mood.

I really like the traditional hainanese cabbage here as well. It's well cooked, and just slightly crunchy. It goes very well with the rice and sauces.

The overall cleanliness of the place is not that great, but it's definitely an authentic experience sitting there, eating your snotty looking mess of a meal. What I can say is this - it definitely tastes better than it looks! And being open late for supper, it's a hearty post-party food!

bak kut teh in herbal  OK Dec 14, 2012
Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Hawker Centre | Chinese Soup

Leon Kee sells mainly pork ribs soup that is cooked in a thick herbal broth. The soup will come in a small claypot which keeps it warm while you enjoy it slowly with your bowl of rice. The pork ribs are rich with the flavor of the herbs and cooked long enough so that the meat comes off easily from the bones.

They also sell prawn noodles in a claypot and braised pork trotters which are very good as well. The pork trotters is tender but not overcooked.

Long ago, they used to sell their bak kut teh with real tea - you can order Chinese tea to go with your bak kut teh soup but due to space constraints, they have stopped doing so. What a pity...

Comfort OK Dec 14, 2012
Categories : Hawker Centre

Fish soup is such a comfort food for me, and I had to try the ABC market fish soup. The queue was pretty long. w
The soup was milky and slightly sweet, exactly how I liked it. The fish was very fresh, and didn't crumble despite being in the soup for a while. The garnish really upped the flavour factor of the dish, and the amount of vegetables in the soup also made it healthier (and easier for my conscience to stomach). I'd return to this stall in a heartbeat! The bowl cost me $3.50, which is quite cheap considering that the average price at shopping mall food courts can go up to $5 or $5.50.

A yellow ribbon story OK Dec 14, 2012

Categories : Hawker Centre | Steaks and Grills

Wow Wow West used to be based in Bukit Merah View Market and Food Centre and is famous because the owner hired ex-convicts to work at the store, providing them a means of livelihood as well as counseling whenever they need help.

The owner has now moved to ABC Brickworks Food Centre. The best selling item here is their Chicken Chop which is juicy and goes very well with the sauce. The Fish and Chips is another best seller as are the various sausages that they have. I find their homemade coleslaw impressive too. And the serving is HUGE! I can never finish the whole plate although my

colleagues manage to chomp down everything.
