one of haig road common sight OK Dec 10, 2012

Categories : Malay | Singaporean | Hawker Centre

Warong Sudi Mampir is located inside Haig Road Market and Food Centre.

We were attracted by the sight and smell of meat cooking over open flame over charcoal and we decided to give the satays a try.

with the choice of Mutton, Chicken and Beef.

Great for snacks to tie us over till dinner!

Lightly charred outside to give the meat great flavours, though the meat itself is a little dry but the star of the satay is definitely the sauce! Bold and saucy with chunks of peanuts! Drowning my meat in those sauce is the best part of the whole experience!

chinese nasi lemak  OK Dec 10, 2012
Categories : Malay | Hawker Centre

Whampoa is a trove for great food, and this stall counts as one of those that should be checked out.
This is at the food centre side of Whampoa, not the market side.
There is somewhat a perpetual line at this stall, but the line does move fast.
Chinese-styled, you get to pick from a variety of dishes to heap atop your rice, although you are welcomed to go for the usual ikan billis, chicken wing, cucumber and egg as well. The selection is plentiful and ranges from the fried processed favourites, such as luncheon meat and sausages, to more home-cooked options. My personal favourites are the squid and curry vegetables.

Besides the fragrant rice, the sambal at this stall really stands out as well. Sweet and not overwhelming spicy, this marries perfectly with a small portion of ikan billis.

A good plate of nasi lemak. I will eat it if I am around the vicinity, but it is not enough for me to crave for it.

crowed joint OK Nov 30, 2012

Categories : Shanghainese | Dim Sum | Noodles

This is the first spot I goto on the first night for dinner. I'm meeting my friends

Why?

Xiao lung bao and their noodles. Heck before the renovation we queued for over three hours and my date was complaining about the excessive wait. Then we had to share a table with another couple to her dismay. Once she bit into the dumplings, she was all smiles and all the discomforts and inconvenience went away. She knew it was worth the wait and the sharing of the table.

Besides, I PAID.

And yes, it was WORTH IT!!!

CBD muffins OK Nov 30, 2012

The Muffinry is awesome. Its a tiny cafe located near the CBD on Telok Ayer Street. The cafe serves great coffee, simple lunches and sandwiches and of course muffins.

They have some pretty cool flavors of muffins here like green eggs and ham and lavender. But my favorite is the banana chocolate. Its moist, sticky and very chocolatey. They also have some other pastries and cakes and I have tried the carrot cake which was pretty great. Really good cream cheese frosting and a moist carrot cake.

The coffee is great here! Head here instead of going to Starbucks! Staff is super friendly and make conversation with you.

coffee to start a day. OK Nov 30, 2012

I wish my HDB block had a Nylon Coffee Roaster at the void deck! I'd be greeted by wafts of dizzying coffee smell everyday, i'd even get my daily dose of coffee here everyday if I could!

Went to check out this tiny space with a friend of mine and we both ordered the piccolo, if I'm not wrong, they were brewing Peruvian beans for the coffee that day. It was so good and so smooth, we didn't add a grain of sugar, the coffee is gentle enough that the milk's sweetness cuts through and you get to enjoy a REAL cup of coffee!

Was so in love with it that I wanted to get the beans so I can make a cup with my french press at home every day. But their shelf of freshly roasted beans (which they do in-house, you can see the machine behind the counter) had only the brazillian blend, so I got that and they ground it for me. Just tell them how you make your coffee at home, whether its espresso machine, french press or drips and they can grind the coffee accordingly for you. While the beans were grinding, oh my, the beautiful bittersweet aroma that suddenly enveloped the room got us all so excited!
