Not worth it Cry Mar 17, 2014

We decided to try something new from Chili’s and settled for their Fajita Trio ($35++) which consisted of grilled prawns, chicken and beef steak. The set also came with some wraps, salsa, shredded cheddar cheese, guacamole, sour cream and lettuce as accompaniment.

The dish had a good mix of ingredients and flavours. However, we felt that the meats were too dry and not at all appetising, especially the grilled chicken. Even when mixed with the accompanying sides, the dry texture of the meats was evident and hard to swallow. At $35++, this was definitely not worth a second try.

Disappointing visit Cry Mar 13, 2014

Finally no queue! We had always been wanting to try out 4 Fingers to see what’s the craze all about and the opportunity finally struck. Sadly, it was a major disappointment as we really don’t see what the hype was all about. We were there around 9pm and many of the items in their menu were out of stock. As such, we settled for one of the few remaining items - Chicken Chop with Soy Garlic ($9.95),hoping it would be representative of the shop’s signature drumlets.

The sauce was quite tasty but the chicken… dry and tasteless. Somehow, the marinate rested purely on the surface and didn’t manage to penetrate into the meat. The chicken and fries were not exactly piping hot as we had anticipated. To make things worse, the place was rather stuffy and filled with a greasy stench sad Not a place we would likely visit again.

Not worth it even with promotion Cry Mar 08, 2014

We were extremely disappointed with our visit to Pappasan after falling trap to yet another deal.com “scam”. This tapas dinner set was supposed to be meant for 2 pax, but seriously, the portions were pathetic and the quality, below par.

The cold tapas platter included (i) Hardboiled Egg, Guacamole & Salmon Roe, (ii) Chicken Ham, (iii) Smoked Salmon, and (iv) Cured Ham Bruschetta. The portion, as captured, was hardly enough for 1 pax. Simple cold snacks that tasted pretty average, period.

The hot tapas included (i) Cheese & Ham Croquette, and (ii) Fries with salsa meat sauce. The croquette was probably left outside for some time as it was served cold and unappetising. The salsa meat sauce was kind of diluted and tasted blend. Honestly, the fries were better off served separately as the sauce somehow made them soggy overtime.

Given the quality of dishes served, we did not pin too much anticipation on their Seafood Paella.

The seafood were pretty fresh but the rice was too dry and lacked the natural sweetness and fragrance of every decent Paella. The overall taste was kind of flat and we were struggling to finish it.

Although the service was good and amicable, this would probably be our first and last visit.

We’ve been wanting to try their seafood platter for the longest time and when we finally had the chance to, it was an utter disappointment sad Surprisingly, it was their promotional set lunch that captured our hearts and melted our tastebuds.

Priced at $98++, the Hearty Chilled Platter was way too overpriced, considering the overall quality of their seafood was probably worth, say, $9.80++? The platter consisted of 6 oysters, 4 pieces of Alaskan king crab legs, 4 kinds of sashimi (the usual suspects) and 4 kinds of seafood tapas which we selected (scallop bouillabaisse, steamed prawns, lobster cocktail and white wine mussels).

The seafood was not exactly very fresh, especially the Alaskan king crab legs which were soft and flaccid. The steamed prawns, mussels and sashimi were equally stale-tasting and terrible. Thankfully, the oysters and the other cold seafood tapas were passable though nothing to boast about.

On the contrary, the $15 nett set lunch which we ordered in addition to the seafood platter, tasted thousand times better! I suspect the hefty price tag of the seafood platter probably deterred majority of the customers, resulting in the seafood being left on the shelf for an extended period of time. The cheaper alternatives were obviously more sellable and hence, they were able to maintain the freshness of the ingredients.

The Seafood Chowder was one of the tastiest I’ve tried! Rich, creamy and chunky, the aroma of the soup left us totally mesmerised and on cloud number 9. Seriously, you’ve got to try it to believe it!

The Grilled wild snapper served with herb pesto risotto was delicious. The snapper was fresh with a tinge of buttery herb fragrance. Grilled to perfection, the soft and slightly charred fish complemented the pesto risotto well. Overall, an excellent combination and refreshing change from the usual fare.

Unfortunately, the Sticky Date Pudding was anti-climatic. It was dry, flaky, and overwhelmingly sweet.

Oh, and did I mention, they serve Evian water, freeflow! The price of the platter was probably used to defray the cost of the water.

In all, this goes to show that price tag is deceiving when it comes to nice food. Do give their $15 nett weekday set lunch a try and skip the platters!

Average fare... Cry Dec 25, 2013

We had earlier purchased some vouchers for their Mookata (Thai style steamboat) set consisting of thinly sliced meat (chicken and pork), hotdogs, crabsticks, fish balls, vegetables and some prawns.

We were quite disappointed with their service as it took almost 30 mins for our food to be served (reason being they needed time to heat up the charcoal?!) We had also earlier encountered some problem when making our reservation when they initially coerced to take up a late afternoon lunch slot (3pm) as they claimed that they were fully booked from 11am to 2pm. However, we insisted on coming at 12 noon and we were glad we did. Guess what, we were the 1st customers when we arrived at 11.50am!

Foodwise, the portion was reasonable for 2 pax (we paid only $11.80 for 2 pax). The meats had little marinate (just some sesame seeds and seasoning) but tasted pretty good after grilling. The prawns were however, totally not fresh and flaccid to be exact. The rest of the ingredients were pretty standard though.

The Tom Yam broth was quite light but still flavourfully, especially towards the end.

Overall, it was only worth it with the promotion. Not a place we would patronise anytime soon.
