Fusion Delight OK Dec 17, 2013

It's been a long while since we last ate at Ma Maison and as we were undecided on our lunch venue, we decided to revisit this quaint little restaurant to satisfy our Western-Japanese cravings.

Tonteki Set ($19.80++)
The Tonteki Set was delicious. The soft tender cutlet blended well with the BBQ sauce and each bite releases a juicy burst of flavours.

Strawberry & Kiwi Tart ($4.80++)
The dessert, however, as a disappointment. This was their promotional item for the day and we could see why. The tart was a little soggy and lacked the buttery fragrance we were expecting. It was also a tad too sweet from what we remember it to be. Hopefully this was only a slip and not a general dip in their dessert quality.

In all, a lovely place with great ambience to spend a lazy weekend afternoon catching up with friends...

Yummy Mash Potato! Smile Dec 17, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Fast Food | Halal

We were shopping for our traditional wedding items at City Plaza and were recommended to try out Arnold Chicken by the shop owner.

There was a slight queue when we arrived but thankfully, it didn't take too long for us to be ushered in after our orders were taken. At $9.60 for a 2-pcs chicken set with drink, it was considered pricy compared to other fast food chains such as KFC, Popeye's and Texas Chicken.

Although the portion is slightly bigger than the usual suspects, I feel that it's not really worth the price. Tastewise, it's quite well fragrant and not oily at all! The meat was a little dry though.

However, what really caught our attention was the mash potato that everybody seemed to have ordered. We decided to try it out and boy were we glad we did! The mash potato was exceptionally smooth, creamy and flavourful. At $3.60 for two giant scoops of mash plus an overflowing portion of sauce, this was a real steal!

Not the best of the fried chicken but definitely for the mash potato!

Beefball Soup

Beefball Soup

From its humble beginning dating more than a century back, Hock Lam Beef Noodles truly stands the test of time and continues its legacy to serve authentic and quality Teochew Beef Kway Teow.

We ordered the dry version of the beef kway teow and an additional bowl of beef ball soup. The sauce of the Beef Kway Teow was tasty and not too starchy. We especially love the beef ball as it was springy and delicious!
However, the essence of this dish lies in the soup that is rich in flavour and best of all, not MSG loaded! You know that quality ingredients, time and effort had been put into creating such a marvelous soup base when we never fail to slurp up every single drop of it.

Do drop by their new location at the back alley of Seah Street for your quick fix of authentic Beef Kway Teow!

Love at first bite Smile Dec 06, 2013

Hippopotamus is a chic casual dining outlet that serves up great value set lunches & dinners! Snuggly located at the basement of Marina Square, we fell in love with diners' heaven at first bite.

Sirloin Steak Set Lunch ($15.90++)
At only $15.90++, this was a real steal! The steak was meticulously prepared and grilled to perfection. The chewy and succulent texture of the medium-rare steak was a joy to savour. The potato gratin was a mouth-watering side not to be missed. The rich cheesy texture atop the soft and smooth potato slices made all the calorie intake worthwhile.

To end it on a sweet note, the set also came with a decent portion of carrot cake which was really yummy. Considering the price, I'm really impressed by the quality of food and effort they put in to whip up such a heartwarming meal.

And did I mention, complementary chips and bread were served as well.

Mr Hippo will definitely give Steakhouses such as Jack's Place, Astons and the likes a run for their money!

Awsome Thai Herb Chicken! Smile Dec 06, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Thai | Restaurant | Halal

We were undecided for dinner and since Siam Kitchen was having a 50% off promotion on their Thai Herb Chicken, we though why not give it a try! To be honest, we had never held much regard for franchise Thai cuisine as we thought them to be highly overpriced and lack authenticity. However, Siam Kitchen proved to be promising though there's definitely room for improvement.

Thai Herb Chicken ($14.90++)
This was simply awesome! The chicken was grilled to perfection with the fragrance of the herbs and spices fully infused into it. Coupled with their special Thai chili sauce, this was one divine Chicken you'll have to savour! The meat was tender and succulent and left a mild sweet aftertaste.

Beef Noodles ($11.90++)
Full-bodied, rich and wholesome – these were the words that came to mind when we tucked into the bowl of hot piping Beef Noodles. The soup broth was flavourful yet not overpowering. Topped with generous portions of tender chewy beef slices, this was the perfect main course on a cold wet evening.

Tom Yam Soup ($7.90++)
Unfortunately, the Tom Yam Soup was a far-cry from the two other dishes we ordered. As a staple order whenever we patronise any Thai restaurant, we were disappointed by the lack-luster flavouring and authenticity of their Tom Yam Soup. What made matters worse was the quality of ingredients used. Both the seafood and fish slices were not exactly fresh, resulting in a fishy taste that compromised the overall quality of the soup broth.

Overall, it was still a pleasant dining experience with some unexpected good finds! We will be back to try out some of their other offerings like Grilled Seafood and Thai Green Curry!
