Disappointed Bengawan Solo Cry Jan 23, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Peranakan / Nonya | Bakery | Desserts and Cakes

I was Plaza Singapura and sampled the Chinese New Year cookie at Bengawan Solo.

When I approached the staff for assistance, the staff just pointed me the boxes of sampled cookies. She did not offer to open the boxes or gave recommendations of their best selling cookies or any new flavouring. I had to help myself and wondered which to try.

I tried the Almond Nut, cranberry cookie, Indonesia kueh bangkit and shrimp roll. The almond nut was dry and can feel the big but not ground to the finest. The cranberry cookie was hard. The Indonesia Kueh bangkit was not rich in coconut texture. The only compliment was the shrimp roll which was soft and crispy. It was not oily.

I wondered if the poor customer service had affected my sampling appetite at this store. Furthermore, the staff did not assist me or introduced me of their products. She was busy playing with her mobile phone. I was disappointed with the visit.

Casuarina Chicken Brayani Cry Jan 10, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Indian | Restaurant

Singapore is a wonderful place to dine. We can enjoy all races of food at any time and not subject to festive restriction. It does not mean that we have wait till Deepavali for Nasi Brayani. We were at Casurina Drive and saw a cozy dinning place. We ordered a plate of rice Brayani with chicken. We offered the drumstick but it was a skinny drumstick and wondered where had the meat gone to. The chicken was rather skinny, no meat. The chicken was dried as the gravy was not rich and thick. When we blended the gravy with the brayani, the texture of the rice is not smooth. I found it dried and did not enjoy the meal. The rice did not have a strong aroma.

From the outside, the restaurant looks impression. However, when we went in, the restaurant was congested with tables and chairs.

Mini Log Cake Cry Jan 03, 2014
Categories : Bakery

I attended an event and the organizer gave the participant a mini chocolate log cake. The cake was fully decorated with the Christmas mini decoration eg the Christmas tree, santas claus and the deer. It was a well decorated mini log cake.

When the cake was cut, it was a chocolate swiss roll cake. The chocolate was dry and the cake was not moisture. Given a price of $5 for the mini log cake, it was reasonable. The cake did not meet the expectation.

Light refreshment was served at the course which I attended. I had fried mee hoon, vegetarian spring rolls and chicken puffs. When the food was displayed on the tray, the food presentable. However, the taste does not taste tasty. The mee hoon was wet and that is why many diner did not go for second helping. As for the spring rolls, they are still crispy and taste met the standard of being cripsy. The chicken puff did not smell good. The meat did not marginate well and did not enhance the aroma and taste of the puff. The refreshment is not satisfying.

I attended a prize ceremony. The host ordered buffet from Four Seasons catering. There were mee siams, deep fried Thai Shrimp cake, fish cake, mid joint chicken wing, samosa and spring roll. The diner can have the choice of assorted mini sushi. The dessert served are Eclair and cream puff. The food were not delighting to me. The worst was the spring rolls had turned soft. The mid chicken wing is not small to eat. The mee siam is too cold. The delighting ones are the assorted sushi, thai shrimp cake and the Eclair.
