Ah Ramen Ramen! OK Mar 10, 2011
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant

I remember this place well. I was here twice. Once with my family, and another time with my dear dear.

I shall recount what I had on the second time with my dear dear.

There was a one for one promotion at that time, order one of their signature spicy ramen noodles and another one free!

So being the cheapo I am, of course I cannot resist.

The ramen came in hop and thick. The ramen are ok and the soup a little too salty for me, but I really like the spicy chili paste they use. My dear dear requested for more and they charge $1.00 for a small dollop, which I thought is a little unreasonable. I believe they should just give it for free. It's not as if we are asking for extra toppings.

Anyway, we also ordered gyoza which is largely forgotten. Quite common.

They have expanded to two units from the small one unit last time. But if you ask me, I probably wouldn't go back again. There are just so many better ramen joints nowadays like Shin-Sapporo and Yoshimaru Ramen.

I used to work around Chinatown and this is one of the place I would visit whenever I want to have cheap eats and yet don't want to eat in the sweaty hawker center.

This stall is located in second stories, and it is a corner, if you don't know what you are looking for, you may just missed it. ;)

Anyway, for me I would usually eat the rojak or the nasi lemak. Both are quite nice and under $3, if you pay with your banquet card, you will get a 10% discount!

However for the nasi lemak, I do find the portion a little small for $3, only one fish and a luncheon meat.

I have eaten at this stall many times already. There's always a long queue at the old hong lim market.

At the temporary market, the queue is not as long, so it's easier to get my noodles to go and go back to office to eat. smile

It's really good. With the right amount of wok-hei control and chili sauce, the combination is heavenly and you have to taste it to believe it.

You can ask for no cockles if you are squeamish about that. But if you are concerned with calories, then you might be better off not eating it, because it's cooked the traditional way with pork lard. smile

But, be careful of the two auntie assistants, when they are serving food to the tables, they will tend to run real fast.

Nice duck rice and duck noodles Smile Mar 10, 2011
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Hawker Centre

I really like the duck rice and duck noodles sold in this stall. I think it's the sauce and the tender duck meat that always draws me back to them. Also I will buy some salted vegetables to go with the duck rice sometimes.

The Belachan Chili sauce also tasted sweet and spicy. That's my kind of sauce. ;)

I especially love love the duck noodles, no ghee taste, and the soup stock is quite thick, making it a very savory dish and just nice for lunch. smile

Fish Ball not that fresh Cry Mar 10, 2011
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Singaporean | Hawker Centre | Brunch

When I tucked into the noodles during my lunch time, I wasn't expecting much. The fishballs were not that fresh with a rubbery and powdery texture.

And the noodles also have that "ghee" taste.

I expect better from a simple dish like mee poh dry or fishball kuay teow soup.

Also the soup is too salty and MSG.
