The Laneway Market OK Sep 13, 2015

The Laneway Market is as its name describes. Situated in a laneway just off the busy and narrow road of Tanjong Katong Road, where parking can be a tedious job. If you have been to the east of Singapore, and specifically Tanjong Katong, it is almost like another food haven, where cafes and restaurants sprouts all over and definitely, residents around need not worry about starving.
Limited seating, thus reservation is very much appreciated though you still have to wait for the next empty table, instead of having one made ready before your appointed arrival time.
Menu is well-thought for diners who have preferences for brunch, mains and also healthier eating. Each section has less than 10 selections, but their forte seems to be in coffee drinks.
Sea Salt Chocolate ($6.00). Taste like a normal iced chocolate with the addition of sea salt that requires you to stir well, else the salty chocolate drink might just not make it.
Spam fries, truffle mayo ($9.00). Thickly-cut fries, and is pretty crispy on the outside, but for the portion and with the price paid, I believe The Laneway Market can be more generous with the serving. But that one special thing that caught my attention was the truffle mayo to dip with the fries. Usually would be just truffle fries.
Laneway Carbonara, Bacon, Chipolatas, Sous Vide Egg ($15.00). I love this, because of the yolk-y sauce on the carbonara after you mixed it up. The yolk is not as strong as when you ate the quarter-cooked egg in hawker centres or Ya Kun etc., and blend it with white pepper and soy sauce. I simply scoop up every sauce I can with my carbonara, as the creamy style is just what I liked about.
Herb Chicken, truffle mash, mushrooms, roasted carrots, pickled cucumbers ($17.00). The herb chicken is worth having as it has kind of like a juicy meat and well-roasted skin. But the sauce has a mixture of both sour and sweet which then failed to coax me into dipping my chips with it.
I felt that The Laneway Market is shorthanded in terms of its crew, as there were only 2 of them serving and scrambling in quick pace all over, from table cleaning, food ordering, serving and also settling payment. Although another pair of helpful hands seems very much in need.

Boufe OK Sep 06, 2015
Categories : Café | Desserts and Cakes

For more details, please visit http://www.foodesteem.com/2015/09/boufe-cafe.html
Boufe, is a cafe which I think is not a very convenient place to head for. But despite the inconvenience, the queue to get a table is astonishingly long as the weekend lunch hours creep in.
Boufe does not look spacious to accommodate lots of diners, the turnaround rate is pretty fast. While still waiting for table, their board menus are hanged by the wall, else for the ladies, OHVOLA is just right in the same premise.
To free ourselves from the intense summer heat, we ordered iced drinks to replenish the lost bodily fluids. Iced Lychee Tea ($5.50) and Iced Caramel Latte ($6.50).
My companion's craving for chicken wings is limitless. Thus, here we end up with some bites before the mains. Crispy Wings ($10.00). It has around 4 - 6 pieces in one serving, and although the skin is not crisply-crisp, the wings inside is juicy. I would although, prefer the skin to be more crisp and with a little spices, as it would taste a little bland.
Eggs Benedict ($16.00) is one of the chef recommendation, consisting of homemade brioche with honey baked ham, poached eggs, homemade hollandaise sauce and fresh greens.
Triple B ($21.00), is like the hot favorite of the Boufe Cafe, as while I was waiting for my food to arrive, the same dish came out of the kitchen quite frequently. Boufe's big breakfast with freshly baked buttery croissant served with scrambled eggs, assorted sausages, streaky bacon, sauteed mushroom and fresh green. The sausages consists of normal chicken sausage while the other is garlic chicken sausage.
Sadly, we were too full for the desserts, but will make it a point to return back to Boufe for a full course meal, entree to main to dessert!

THREE by Table OK Aug 23, 2015
Categories : French | Japanese | Thai | Restaurant

For more details, please visit http://www.foodesteem.com/2015/08/three-by-table-concepts-seiro-zakka.html

Seletar Mall has quite a number of eateries, but I decided to head for Three by Table Concepts, as it looks pretty promising in serving some decent food and I'm quite interested to know what kind of menu they could serve by combining three different cuisines (Japanese Casual Dining, Modern Thai, French Bistro) into one.
Not really combining all three cuisines into a food kind, but serving three separate cuisines in a menu. Somehow you may also put it as lessening your effort to run around three different places to try each.
Ordered an appetizer, Crispy Prawn Toast ($7.80) served with 3 pieces. It’s a cuisine under Zakka (Modern Thai), where toast is served with fried prawn paste on it, and a Thai spicy sweet sauce to company.
It isn't a fantastic appetizer, but it is pretty oily at the bottom, and the spread of prawn paste is just a mere layer. Taste is alright, and if dipped with the spicy sweet sauce, it would be more enjoyable as the sweetness of the sauce engulfs your taste bud.
Chicken in Half ($13.80) is a French Bistro, where a country side roasted half chicken is served with roasted vegetables, such as carrots and broccoli, as well as french fries and mushroom cream sauce.
I find the aroma of the roasted chicken well-presented and chicken meat is tender enough. Well, I would also say the chicken itself does make up for the creamy sauce and skinny fries.
Signature Duck Leg and Linguine ($23.80) is also under French Bistro. Linguine has a little spicy sauce and if you look carefully, you will see chopped chili skins. Duck leg although has been flattened, but skin is crispy and meat is quite satisfactory too. Overall, I favor more of the Signature Duck Leg than the Chicken in Half, in terms of the overall taste.
A modern Thai cuisine for our dessert, a Thai Mango Sticky Rice ($6.80). What makes me like the dessert is the real sweet mango which even the color is fresh-yellow. Four bunches of sticky rice that is really warm and even without the coconut milk, the rice itself is not bland at all. I would seriously add this as my favorite place to have my mango sticky rice in future.

Mexican Street Food in Super Loco OK Jul 12, 2015
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Mexican | Bars/Lounges | Brunch

For more details, please visit http://www.foodesteem.com/2015/07/super-loco-mexican-street-food.html
Super Loco, is a restaurant cum bar, which focus to serve authentic Mexican food. I myself has not tried Mexican cuisine before, and thus I held a decent amount of excitement on my way there.
Wildberry Smoothie ($11.00) is a mixture of blueberry, raspberry, redcurrant and chia seeds. Personally, I wouldn't make another order of this smoothie. It isn't very sweet, but I don't find this thirst-quenching enough for me.
Super Rancheros ($20.00). It has free-range eggs served in a corn tortilla with bacon, ham, cheese and tomato salsa. On first look, it looks tempting and delicious to me. Unless you are a corn lover, this dish might disappoint you.
Pulled Pork Torta ($15.00), is made of juicy slow-cooked pulled pork, super slaw, Mexican beans, apple and habernero mayo. A burger-like dish, with indeed juicy pulled pork, and thinly-sliced green apples. Something unique to me, as I have seen decent number of burgers with tomato slices, but apple is still my first.
Super Churros ($12.00), is one out the three desserts available in Super Loco's brunch menu. Although we requested for the dessert to come together with the mains.
Well, it's freshly made to serve! 5 warm and fluffy churros coated with sugar, and with orange and mescal sauce for dipping. Again, this is the first churros of my life, and I think I have grown in love with it. Tad crispy outer (definitely not because of the crunchy sugar bits) and soft inside gives a resemblance of our traditional Chinese breakfast, Chinese Cruller. Super Churros is exactly the same as Chinese Cruller in terms of the way of eating, except you dipped with sauces. It might not be a favorable dish among the elders, mainly due to the sweet sauces and also the sugar coating.

Average food, awesome interior! OK Jul 05, 2015

For more details, please visit http://www.foodesteem.com/2015/07/le-halo.html
I was surprised to find that the table are those old-fashioned sewing machine which my family used to have it. In addition, the chair cushion is familiar to me too as my grandma love sewing something similar for the entire family.
Other than being a cafe, Le Halo is also a vintage retail shop. Most items displayed in the shop is available for purchase, while prices are not stated prominently, crew are always around to assist you with utmost patience and service.
Piggy Stew ($11.50) uses pork loin mixed with carrots and potatoes. Stew is not too thick but the amount might not be sufficient if you prefer to dip your 6 toasted breadsticks into the stew before consumption.
Otah Egg ($8.50) has a layer of Muar otah smeared on the toast, and topped with a sunny side up. While munching on this, Wheeler's Yard came to my mind, with it's Otah Burger that can't kept me eating without comparison.
Kueh Lapis ($1.50). A small portion of the kueh lapis, which I feel is below my expectation. I had kueh lapis before which is firm and yet taste a little fluffy and soft. Those at Le Halo is firm too, but taste like it has been toasted before brought to table.
Strawberry Mousse ($5.50). We had actually wanted Orange Mirror but was told later on that the cake was not found to be fresh and thus suggested Strawberry Mousse. We took their lead and I think it was a good choice.
Strawberry Mousse is much better than the Keuh Lapis, where the strawberry portion is made like pudding and the sponge portion is fluffy!
While food may be average, such vibrant-colored cafe is sure to be well-liked by kids, it is also a chilling place for teenagers and adults to gather on a table and chat away while eating on their food and embrace themselves into the "cosy corner". It can also be a place for vintage-peeps to drop by and see if any of the items interest you.
