For more details, please visit http://www.foodesteem.com/2015/08/illido-italian-dining.html Porcini Mushroom Foam is not some creamy soup, as read from the name. Its foamy appearance comes with the slight mushroom taste that lingers in your mouth before the next course comes along. What I like about this is the tender taste which is not too strong, but just the action to tickle your taste bud and crave for the next dish. Not in the set menu, complimentary Cheese Risotto Balls from the chef. It's still warm and the cheesy taste although does not flow from the bite of it, but if you are cheese-lover, this could really make you happy. Cream of Asparagus with Truffle, which is not really my type of taste. I love asparagus, but the idea of mashing it into creamy soup does not goes well with me. But my companion likes it a lot, especially if you are a truffle lover. Parma Ham with Artisan Burrata. I love the creation of burrata which shaped like an egg, but slicing it open ooze out not yolk, but a mixture of mozzarella cheese and cream. This Italian cheese is not those kind of thick and cheesy type like the "Cheese Fries" we have in KFC, and thus compliment well with the parma ham. Pumpkin Tortelli with Truffle Bagna Cauda. Can't really make out the semi-transparent golden sheen, but the bottom lays something like greenish dumplings that are stuffed with boiled pumpkin. I am not a pumpkin lover and I do really hate pumpkin at some point of my life, but this is totally just suitable for me. Pumpkin is not too strong, though of course the sweetness of the pumpkin is still there. Tagliolini with Crab, Amalfi Lemon and Tarragon. It look nice in picture and presentation, but I couldn't really stand the strong fishy taste that I seem to taste out of it. Well, at least my companion is likes it a lot. Seabass with Caciucco and Herb Dumplings. In my opinion, a dish of fish is excellent when the meat itself is soft and silky-like, and able to absorb well of the sauce that it comes with. Bone Marrow Crusted Angus Beef Tenderloin, Heirloom Carrots. I wasn't asked how well I would prefer, and it seems to be more like medium-rare. Although it has been a long time I had a medium-rare beef, its juicy meat with a dab of the pumpkin cream complement well. Hazelnut Coulant with Spiced Chocolate Gelato. Molten cake that contained dark bitter chocolate which will flow out when sliced open. This dessert is not bad in general, but the bitter taste is a tad strong. Roasted Strawberries with Vanilla & Yogurt Semifreddo. Among the two desserts in the weekend lunch menu, this is my favorite. This simple yet elegant presentation is not only pretty in looks, but also tasty in mouth. Sweetness of the strawberries and sourness of the semi-frozen ice cream cakes literate a well-balanced dessert to end the meal. For more details, please visit http://www.foodesteem.com/2015/01/stirling.html Along Upper Bukit Timah Road, right opposite the Bukit Timah Shopping Centre, is a row of shophouses, selling food and aim to make every diner leave with a happy belly. Outdoor area is to accommodate the pub-goers for a drink and chat, while interior is more suitable for a cozy meal, as well as a romantic dinner with your partner. Not an alcoholic drinker, we had the mocktails, Shirley Temple ($5.00) and Fruit Punch ($5.00). Both are thirst-quenching drinks and sweetness is being balanced out for a soothing drink among the meals. Grilled Watermelon ($12.00). Recommended appetizer which uses fresh watermelon and roasted till sweet, with topped with parma ham and based with rocket salad. The striking combination of fruit and ham does give me a sense of doubt for the taste it might produce, but I took back my thought. Juicy and sweet watermelon, topped with parma ham that comes a little on the salty side goes perfectly fine! One of Stirling's signatures, Crispy King Salmon ($23.00) topped up fork crushed potato, creamy dill and leek sauce. Crispy salmon skin is the highlight of the dish, which we don't usually get it in other places, and salmon is cooked to perfect, not making the salmon too dry up for enjoyment. Another signature of Stirling, Gentleman's Cut ($38.00 for 300g). Between the choice of sirloin or ribeye, steak comes with avocado butter and in-house seasoning. For a balanced meal, it also comes with a portion of sauteed mix vegetable and truffle fries is not to be left out for a complete meal. I requested for a rare-done which I enjoyed it! 75% redness through the centre, the meat is soft and juicy. If you are steak-eater, and similarly like your steak to be rare done, Stirling should be in your list. Truffle Fries ($7.00). Truffle Fries is a common item in most cafes, but what makes Stirling's version striking is that each fries are equally tossed with truffle oil, salt and pepper, thus every inch of the fries gets "tagged" with truffle taste. Cheesy Risotto Balls ($5.00). As the name describe, the bite into the ball will release the cheese into your mouth. Not the flowing cheese like custard bun, but Stirling is pretty generous with the cheese, and the crispy outer add on to the overall experience. For more details, please visit http://www.foodesteem.com/2014/12/the-flying-squirrel.html We chanced upon an interesting signage pointing towards an alley, which doesn't look at all promising a place for meal. But our doubts were soon hammered back to ourselves. Hidden just in the alley, there is a small, or perhaps squeezy restaurant. It was packed and the aroma of the food upon entering didn't gave us a chance to walk out. Only able to house handfuls of diners, it would be recommended to make reservations instead, especially when the lunch hour is precious during the weekdays. Despite the narrow walkway, I love the interior design of the restaurant. The walls and floors have the raw-hardened cement as finishing, without any tiles. One special side of the side is sealed with real bricks, where we believe the wall has been cracked open revealing the foundation bricks within. Very much like an interior industrial style. The Flying Squirrel's menu is limited by choice of food. They have a variety of alcoholic drinks, which at night turned to be a bar. It was initially a disappointing experience while placing our order, because both our orders, Chicken Karaage Bento and Tonkatsu Donburi were sold out then. Not having much interest in the sashimi and other bentos, we settled for the Unagi Donburi ($17.00). It consists of braised unagi, poached egg, scallions and green onions served with Japanese rice. When we were served, the aroma of the Unagi started to tickle our nostril, somewhat telling us to start cracking on the food. The tender unagi and rice which seems to be coated with collagen make the whole dish pleasing to our palates. Portion is sufficient enough for a person, which isn't too little or too much for an average person. Although the Unagi Donburi is satisfying, I am still craving for their Chicken Karaage Bento, which consists of Japanese curry sauce. For more details, please visit http://www.foodesteem.com/2014/07/the-tastemaker-store.html Menu has a reserved variety, perhaps more to local taste, and also appropriate with their simplistic and cozy ambiance. Nothing too complicated and to be fussy about! I love Glutinous Rice ($3.80) which is sticky and a little dry, and coincidentally, The Tastemaker Store's glutinous rice suits my taste! Fruit Jam with Clotted Cream Toast Set ($5.80). Toast is a little hard and crispy, but overall makes up a satisfactory meal. Ham and Cheese Sandwich Set ($7.80). Looks like another hamburger set, unlike the usual kind of two pieces of bread sandwiched with ham and such, then further sliced into triangular shape. Other than the exclusion of soft boiled eggs, it has a softer bread than Toast Set, and a portion of salty crisps/chips. Food may be normal, but I feel that the price is at least reasonably priced, and ambiance is kind of cosy for a lazy afternoon. It is definitely worth another visit for me. I love Dian Xiao Er for one particular reason out of many - Chinese dining theme! They do have modern theme as well in selected outlets, for youngsters whom have zero interest in Chinese culture. NEX Mall is one of the spacious outlet in Singapore, able to host big groups, and even Chinese wedding dinner, although a small-sized engagement type would seems more suitable. Signature Roast Duck! It comes with either of the 3 flavors (Angelica Herb ($13.60), Ten Wonders ($13.90), and Wild Ginseng ($14.30)). All 3 sauces are delectable, and do add another layer of tastiness to the already juicy and tender roast duck! Fish Maw Soup with Seafood ($16.90). Dian Xiao Er has prepared the fish maw to softness, making it easier to bite through, and the smooth thick consistency of the soup is just so yummy! Double-boiled Black Chicken Soup ($7.30), Stewed Crocodile Soup with Sweet Almonds and Chuan Bei ($7.60), and Double-boiled Wintermelon Soup with Conpoy ($7.30). Popular to most belief, crocodile meat taste like chicken meat, and doesn't really have any weird aftertaste. Hong Kong Style Steamed Silver Cod Fish ($26.90). I love cod fish, because of its soft and silky-like meat in my mouth! Baby Kailan with Salted Fish and Lime ($9.90). Crunchy leafy with a unique way of serving with the addition of lime. Refreshing dish, but the mild sour taste of lime on the kailan does not really appeal to me. Seafood Combo with Assorted Vegetables ($15.60). Claypot Braised Sea Cucumber, Mushroom and Pork Tendon ($26.00). Stir Fried Bee Hoon ($9.90). Beehoon has a springy texture, and furthermore it seems that beehoon is well soaked and stir fried, making the moisture still stay within. Mongolian Spare Ribs ($13.90). Coated a mild layer of spicy sauce, and with the sweet and sour tinge plum, this plate of rib is another dish to go for, if you are not into the health-conscious type. Marmite Superior Chicken Wing ($10.90). This is my favorite dish, in comparison with Mongolia Spare Ribs. It has this sweet savory taste, and the chicken is tender and juicy. Dian Xiao Er has always been proactive in serving healthier food options, and this partnership has indeed gain them more exposure! With healthier food preparation methods, such as the use of rice barn oil, Dian Xiao Er also ensure that tastiness and flavors will not be compromised. As part of the partnership with HPB, Dian Xiao Er is one of the participating food establishments for the loyalty card programme. All you have to do is to earn a total of 5 stamps for each dish under the "Healthier Choice" category, and you will be eligible for a lucky draw.
