Arossa Wine & Grill Smile Aug 11, 2014
Categories : Italian | Restaurant | Pasta | Steaks and Grills

Indoor seating only, formed in an L-shaped formation, is limited. Thus, reservation is recommended if you are looking to host a casual and romantic dining experience with your partner.
With more than 120 labels, consisting of old & new-world wine, Arossa can also be another place to enjoy a glass of liquor by the street of Orchard.
A basket of complimentary bread, giving off a slight aroma when chewed in mouth, I can't help feeding my mouth with the bread before the 1st course arrived.
Calamari ($22.00) came as our first course. Fried squid isn't oily, and is springy. While the fried squid is good enough to be eaten on its own, a dab of the spicy aioli sauce would add-on an additional taste to it.
Primo Piatto, Chitarra ($29.00). Arossa's homemade square-cut pasta with sea urchin paste, chives, and peperoncino, is definitely worth the amount.
Secondo, Tonno ($36.00). Grilled Blue Fin Tuna with salsa fresh tomatoes, although failed in my expectation as a beef dish, it's texture and taste does surpass my disappointment. Perhaps a dish for diners whom ain't beef-eaters, but still can act like one smile
A great place with prompt service and overlooking the street of Orchard from level 2. Most restaurants would have placed a whole row of cutlery on the table, and count on you to know which to use for the type of food served. Arossa did the opposite way, but neatly placing only the right cutlery on your table, and switch to another when another different type of food is served.

Dining at Tablescape Cry Aug 04, 2014

Categories : Fusion | Hotel | Restaurant | Steaks and Grills | Buffet

I love the grand setting with a little bit of colonial of the exterior, and the grass patch which covers almost the entire stairway to the entrance. On the left side, just before walking straight to the reception counter, there is a corridor showcasing their cakes and pastries. Took on the 3-course ($66.00) dinner menu, for a swift and decisive action to settle my growling stomach!

The first course was the Cream of Pumpkin and Carrot with Garlic Croutons Soup. I would conclude the soup is too sweet to my liking, although it is thick and creamy. Diners, whose taste favors pumpkin and carrot combination, might find this soup a great start to the meal.

Second course was Roasted Peppered Chicken with Mixed Vegetables and Baby Potato. Looking juicy from the outside, but inside was pretty dry.

An alternative to the Roasted Peppered Chicken, was the Oven Baked Seabass with Mixed Vegetables and Baby Potato with Creole Tomato Sauce. In my opinion, a dish of fish fails when the fishy taste is still there, and become slightly above average of my bearable level. This dish apparently falls into this category. Though not overcooked, but I rather it be overcooked than being too fishy.

Chocolate Brownies with Vanilla Ice Cream, for dessert. This was the one and only option, unlike the first and second course. Brownie is a little dry and sticky to your teeth as you bite, but smear with the vanilla ice cream, and it should work fine.
Service is commendable, but perhaps food can be improved for a better rating from diners. I wouldn't make another visit to Tablescape, partly due to inaccessibility, and mainly on the quality of food.

One Man Coffee Smile Jul 30, 2014
Categories : Café | Brunch

One Man Coffee is well-situated along Upper Thomson Street where vast food stalls and restaurants are held at. It will be nearer if you come from Lornie Road direction, and after passing by the petrol station on the left, One Man Coffee will be just a short walking distance away from you. To avoid any confusion, One Man Coffee is located within Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar.

Butter Croissant with Homemade Berry Jam and Butter ($4.50). Croissant is soft and fluffy, and most importantly, without the jam and additional portion of butter, the already buttered croissant is sufficient enough to eat it plain.

Gashouse Egg with Bacon Jam , also well known as "Egg-In-The-Bread-With-The-Hole-In-The-Middle" ($10.00). Be careful of your flowing yolk once you cut it through. Bacon Jam is another interesting item on the dish. Both bacon and jam blended well, and I would have liked to purchase some for home-use.

Brioche French Toast ($10.00) with Homemade Berry Compote, Candied Walnuts and Fresh Cream. Berry Compote can be a little sour, but toast is being soaked by the cream which make it soft and not dry to stomach in. Comes with a mild cinnamon taste, and also well-faved most people!

Menu has a reserved variety, perhaps more to local taste, and also appropriate with their simplistic and cozy ambiance. Nothing too complicated and to be fussy about!
I love Glutinous Rice ($3.80) which is sticky and a little dry, and coincidentally, The Tastemaker Store's glutinous rice suits my taste!
Fruit Jam with Clotted Cream Toast Set ($5.80). Toast is a little hard and crispy, but overall makes up a satisfactory meal.
Ham and Cheese Sandwich Set ($7.80). Looks like another hamburger set, unlike the usual kind of two pieces of bread sandwiched with ham and such, then further sliced into triangular shape.
Other than the exclusion of soft boiled eggs, it has a softer bread than Toast Set, and a portion of salty crisps/chips.
Food may be normal, but I feel that the price is at least reasonably priced, and ambiance is kind of cosy for a lazy afternoon. It is definitely worth another visit for me.

Khun Mee Thai Noodle Bar Smile Jul 23, 2014

Categories : Thai | Restaurant | Noodles

For more details, please visit http://www.foodesteem.com/2014/07/khun-mee-thai-noodle-bar.html

Although with a small shop space, Khun Mee Thai has no lack of menu options, ranging from appetizers to desserts.
Cha ($3.00), also known as Thai Tea, is their recommended drink. It is a traditional Thai Ice Milk Tea, made from black tea, vanilla, cinnamon, star anise, evaporated milk, and ice cubes. If you are not a milk tea type of person, you can also try their Nam Ta Krai ($2.50), also known as Lemongrass Drink, homemade by Khun Mee Thai.
Guey Teow Lui Suan ($5.80), also known as Thai-Style Garden Roll, comes in 6 short rolls for ease of consumption. With the balance of sweet and sour taste, and their special chilli sauce, it might be a hit among the popiah-lovers.
Kha Moo ($7.80), also known as Pork Leg, is one of my favorite dish, although taste can be quite similar to canned food, Pork Leg with Mushrooms, but with a slight twist! Braised with 5 spices sauce and cushioned with Thai Kai Lan, it makes the whole dish very digestible and feel like scooping for more.
Moo Yor Salad ($5.80), also known as Thai sausages with glass noodle in spicy dressing. Using pork and sprinked with crushed black peppercorns to form the sausage, this is one of the Thai-Chinese street foods back in Thailand.
Khor Kai Tod ($4.80), also known as Fried Chicken Joints. While not recommended for the elderly due to the effort required to bite it apart, I felt like biting off the tendon underneath the crispy outer, which makes me feel addicted to it the more I bite.
Khao Clook Ga-Pi ($8.80), also known as Fried Rice with Shrimp Paste, served with Thai sweet pork stew, crispy dried shrimp, sliced cucumber, shallots, julienned green mango, omelette strips, Chinese sausage and chilli padi. The dried ingredients may seem boring, but the splash of the sweet pork stew on the rice makes a difference to the dried plate of rice.
Being in Khun Mee Thai, one shouldn't miss out on their signature wanton noodle! Ba Mee Kiao ($5.80 - $9.80), also known as Egg Noodle with Dumpling. It also includes char siew, and either lava egg, crabmeat or both, which I believe is quite rare, as lava egg seems to appear in Japanese cuisine most of the time! We had the dry version, which I also believe is much more interesting. The best way to eat this, is to actually mix the 4 condiments with the noodle, and chopstick it to your mouth! I agree adding of sugar is pretty weird, but trust me, the overall taste is quite satisfying.
……….
From courtesy of Khun Mee Thai, I am giving away 2 dining vouchers to 2 person, entitling you to $5 discount with a minimum spending of $25. Simply comment on my blog post, or my facebook page, to stand a winning chance!
