Customizing your own maki sushi! OK Apr 10, 2013

For more details, please visit http://foodesteem.blogspot.com/2013/04/maki-san.html

Maki-San is one of the unique sushi shops in Singapore. You get to select what you want in your very own sushi, and see how they make your sushi. It is then packed into a rectangular box to hold the sushi in place even if you are dining in. Very interesting decor, and sushi is not bad, except that their seaweed is a little hard to chew apart.

Had tried both their little san and mega san, with difference in only their number of ingredients and inclusive of "specials" only for mega san.

I think it is worth a visit, and another visit for me smile Do visit my blog for more pictures and descriptions!

Eno Oka Japanese Restaurant quietly stands between shophouses along Cairnhill Road. Not unless you heard about them, or stays nearby, the chance of others passing by is quite rare.

Shop space is pretty small and narrow, but still comfortable. Crew are foreigners, but not Japanese. Their service is commendable, though the serving of the food is pretty slow, especially when there wasn't much of a crowd in there.

Ordered vegetable tempura for $8.00, and ikageso nanban (fried squid tentacles) for $6.00. Both are average rated.

Mains we had chicken katsu set for $10. Pork cutlet cut up, and sliced cabbage as base. Juicy but not very crispy. Also had tonkotsu ramen for $11. The scent of the soup came rushing to my nostrils the moment it was brought near to me. Tempting to me, but noodles are like maggie mee. Soup base is simply the highlight of the ramen due to long hours of preparation.

We didn't had it, but the signature dish is actually their shabu shabu. It's pretty expensive, so we gave it a miss, as there's only two of us. Crew recommended us to give it a go the next time we visit them.

Bought voucher from deal.com.sg for chicken wings & nuggets buffet for less than $10 per pax.

Service was not slow, but neither was it fast, as I observed that there is only one crew staff working both the counter and the kitchen. I went during the weekend evening, and a raining day as well. My first serving came quite fast, but second serving took a longer time. Thus, I believe the crew was inside frying the wings, before coming out to serve us with the food. There wasn't a lot of people when I went, thus, most of the time I am able to get the attention of the crew.

Asked for their mayonnaise which was included in the buffet as free flow, but was told that mayonnaise was not available. But nevertheless, their chili sauce is not bad too.. Something like the Macdonald's sweet chili. Chicken wings and nuggets are not crispy, but still can be consider finger-lickin good probably due to its seasoning.

5 mins walk from Kovan MRT, I would probably visit them again to try their Mexican and spicy chicken wings, which were not in the voucher. It isn't that expensive, as half a dozen costs around $5 plus at usual price.

For full review, please visit http://foodesteem.blogspot.com/2013/03/mu-parlour.html

Located in the heart of Holland Village, where bars and restaurants resides Mu Parlour is quite out of the extraordinary with its interior design. Housed on the second floor, walking in will display to you simple colors yet bold designs. The place looks quite classy yet casual at the same time. Sitting by the windows allows your eyes to wander out to the roadside for some people watching smile

For mains, they only have burgers, and that is what we are going for initially, as it was mentioned their burgers were good. Ordered two burgers, but think it was only average. But looking at their desserts, it was so beautifully displayed, and we can't helped ordering it, despite the disappointment for their burgers.

I would perhaps visit them again for the desserts, and enjoying the classy decor they have. For my main wise, I would probably head out to others.

For full review, please visit http://foodesteem.blogspot.com/2013/02/boathouse-restaurant.html

Was given a chance to visit Boathouse during Valentines Day, and it was what I have been longing from a long time. Their set meal for a couple costed about $209, lasting for a 3 course meal.

Wanted to get the indoor seating as it seems to be more classy and has a more pretty decor, but due to full seating, we had no choice but to head to the outdoor seats. Hence, photos are quite bad due to poor lighting condition.

First course options are Huitre, and Canard. The former is actually a soup based appetizer and soup texture is rather smooth! The latter is a salad type having duck confit in it, which is savory!

Second course options are boeuf, and saumon. The former highlights the beef, which is soft and chewy, quite to my liking. The latter highlights the pan-roasted salmon. Salmon is soft, and not overcooked, compact and juicy!

The third course options are myrtille, and le'ispahan. The former is more on blueberry flavor. Blueberry chessecake, blueberry muffin ice cream... And it's simply too yummy. Blueberry cravers should not miss this! The latter is less favorable than the former. Le'ispahan has rose &lychee tiramisu, raspberry coulis. Rose taste is too overwhelming, and making the whole dessert a little weird in taste. Unable to finish the le'ispahan, nd having a look round, most tables left this dessert unfinished.

Overall, service was good, and crew was very polite to diners though they were busy running here and there due to the crowd. Ambience is rather cosy if not for the crowd. Wouldn't mind heading there again but provided I get an indoor seating to fully enjoy the dining experience!
