The umeya has a kind of peas that is flavoured with wasabi. It is so hot and tasty, not many people can put more than a few into their mouth, otherwise it would be too hot. This is priced according to weight, from 100g onwards, so we don't have to worry about buying too much.

Pies Smile Mar 21, 2011

At $1.80 each, the chicken pie is a good buy, as it is huge and the chicken portions in it are generous, and very tender, with no fatty bits at all. The potato base of the pie makes it more tasty, and reminds me of shepherd pie. They sometimes have a promo of buying 2 pies at a reduced price.

Quite pleasantly surprise this place is in openrice as it is not exactly a dining place. They sell all kinds of taiwanese snacks here : plums, ginger, cuttlefish etc. In spite of the Japanese name, the snacks are flown from Taiwan to Singapore. Among the plum range, there is a dizzy huge selection to choose from : liquorice plums, milky plums, dried plums, red plums, mulberry, cranberry, wu mei, etc. They were affordable, and no refrigeration needed.

Love the side dishes Smile Mar 21, 2011

I always order the marsh potato as a side dish along with the chicken. Good marsh potato that melts in the mouth. I love that brown topping they put on this potato, as it is the thing that gives this potato a great flavour. Also, sometimes the potato can get a bit dry, so this topping gives some moisture to the whole dish.

Fresh and well-done Smile Mar 17, 2011

The fried fish here is indeed different from the fish and Co dish. There is something strangely addictive about the smooth ultra-thin outer fried layer, and the moist texture between that layer and the white flesh underneath. At first sight, I thought it was undercooked dough that they used to fry the stuff, but even if it was, it was so delicious and addictive. I love this place and would recommend it to all readers.
