I was glad to see that there's a 15% discount coupon offered on openrice for Scrummy. My hubby and his friends frequent this place and highly recommend it. And just nice, I had an opportunity to come down here for lunch with my hubby smile

We were greeted warmly when we entered the air-conditioned restaurant, which is found in a tranquil part of some HDB blks in Macpherson. The restaurant is rather cosy and there are cute drawings by customers (quite a number drawn by kids I think) plastered on the walls.

Mushroom soup - $3.90

The mushroom soup was pretty good, you can taste the fresh and abundant mushrooms used to make the soup. It was not too creamy, thick or salty - the flavour was just nice. smile The accompanying pieces of freshly toasted bread were also good.

Rosey Beef - $9.90

Three juicy BBQ beef (mix of tenderloin & short rib) skewers were served with 2 sides - I chose the fresh salad and pasta.
The beef skewers were lightly salted and marinated with herbs. They were grilled till tender and juicy, and you can savour the taste of beef without it being overwhelmed by heavy seasoning. I loved the piping hot pasta which had generous lashings of herbs, chopped garlic and diced tomatoes. The salad was also very fresh and had a tangy lemon-based dressing which was very appetising.

Grilled chicken - $7.50

The chicken chop was tender and covered with a brown sauce which seemed to have a subtle corn taste to it - quite unique and tasty. The mashed potatoes and fresh boiled vegetables were good too.

Prices shown here are nett, there's no service or gst charge. For the quality and freshness of the food offered here, I think the prices are very reasonable and offer value-for-money. I'll definitely wish to visit this place again!

Really nice Italian food Smile Sep 21, 2013

A good friend kindly gave me some RWS food vouchers that she couldn't use in time and recommended me to try Palio. I'm glad that I had a chance to try the food here, as I truly enjoyed my dining experience. smile

Service was excellent all the way, from all the various staff who greeted and served us with a warm smile.

The toasted bread came early thankfully, while we waited for our main dishes to come. It sure helped to stave off our hunger for a while. The bread was served with a simple tomato-based olive oil dip. Quite good.

- Complimentary bread

The serving size of the ravioli was very small and I admit I was a bit disappointed at first. But on the first bite..wow, it's excellent! The flavours were intensely rich with every bite. One of the best ravioli dishes I've had. The ravioli pasta was not too thick and you could really taste the stuffing within. The truffle cream sauce was also very yummy.

- Ravioli stuffed with mushroom & cheese in a truffle cream sauce

The signature pizza had a lot of fresh seafood like mussels, scallops, prawns and squid. The crust was thin and crispy. A tad on the salty side for the seasoning of the seafood but generally great-tasting.

- signature Pizza Michael

Will definitely be back again lol

Passing by the crystal jade la mian xiao long bao outlet at holland village, we were attracted by the advertisement for their weekday set lunch and decided to try it. One dim sum + la mian + drink for only $8.80 nett.

- The weekday set lunch menu

It's highly recommended that you choose the xiao long bao for the dim sum. The skin was thin and yet did not break when you lift up the xiao long bao. The soup within and the minced pork was very tasty as well. A strong contender to Din Tai Fung's famed xiao long bao.

- Steamed soupy xiao long bao

The bowl of la mian was slightly smaller than the usual bowl, but still plenty for me, especially considering there's the dim sum and drink in the set as well. In fact, I'm glad they gave a smaller serving for the la mian actually so that I can finish all my food. The sauce was not bad, although I would have liked it if it's spicier. The noodles were good in texture and went very well with the sauce.

- La Mian with minced pork & mushroom in spicy sauce

The soya bean drink served was not too sweet and you can taste the fragrance of soya beans - nice smile

- Soya Bean drink

I thoroughly enjoyed my meal here which was really worth the buck!

I came here with one goal in mind - to try it's signature custard bun. My friend was raving about it so I came here to try it with my dear hubby smile We were here for dinner so their dim sum spread was not on offer then. Thankfully, their signature custard bun & steamed dumplings were still available for ordering, to my delight.

- Signature custard bun ($6)

- The oozing custard bun

The custard bun came in a cool-looking wooden box. As I bit into my bun with immense anticipation, I had to scramble to salvage the rich salted-egg molten custard filling as it oozed out. The best I've tried so far! LOL, you couldn't wipe off the grin from my face after I had two of the buns. Yup, I had 2, hubby only 1. tongue

- Special stewed beef brisket with fried rice ($12)

The stewed beef was indeed special, the sauce was very good. You could tell that they probably had to stew the beef for a long time to get that taste. We didn't wanna waste the sauce so we mopped it up with the fried rice haha. The beef meat was very tender and the tendons was so soft that it felt like it melts in your mouth with each bite. The fried rice was not bad, although it was a tad dry & less tasty than I would have preferred. However my hubby feels it's perfect that way as an accompaniment to the more tasty stewed beef's broth so that there's a balance to the dish.

- Steamed dumplings aka xiao long bao ($6.50)

The steamed dumplings were quite big & chock-full of broth. But because of this, the dumpling actually breaks open with your attempt to lift it up onto your spoon. I kept trying several ways to scoop up the dumpling carefully so that it will not break but failed at all attempts. (hey, I was very gentle ok?) Luckily there's still plenty of broth left even after losing some on the journey to your stomach. The amount of pork given is generous so that might have led to the weight pulling the dumpling down with gravity. (Ok, getting a bit technical here...). The broth was flavorful - would have been better if there's more of the pork sweetness taste instead of just savory taste. It came a close second to my number one beloved xiao long bao at din tai feng.

There's plenty of seating available in the restaurant which was painted in oh-so-cool black. There was classic Chinese pop music piped overhead arranged in a jazzy-kind of way which was a tad eerie though. But probably it was to go with the whole cool Chinese theme. We had a table besides the waterfront area, a nice, romantic setting. We were kinda under-dressed for the atas setting in the restaurant but the staff were still very friendly. They also changed our plates midway through the meal and constantly offered to top up our glasses of warm water. Good service!

- A sneak peek of the interior

The food's a bit pricey (those we ordered were the more affordable ones) but definitely worth it for the food, service & ambience!

Excellent avocado juice! Smile Jan 03, 2013

Categories : Hawker Centre

Judging from the stall's name, you would not have guessed that there's a hidden gem here - the avocado juice! For a mere $2, you get a HUGE cup of smooth, creamy avocado juice - really thick and good. You can request for a less sweet version to truly savor the avocado's taste. Ahhhh a very satisfying and full drink to end your meal with. lol

The sugarcane juice and other fruit juices are also very popular in this stall. Definitely give this stall a try if you are in the vicinity! smile
