Really nice Italian food Smile Sep 21, 2013

A good friend kindly gave me some RWS food vouchers that she couldn't use in time and recommended me to try Palio. I'm glad that I had a chance to try the food here, as I truly enjoyed my dining experience. smile

Service was excellent all the way, from all the various staff who greeted and served us with a warm smile.

The toasted bread came early thankfully, while we waited for our main dishes to come. It sure helped to stave off our hunger for a while. The bread was served with a simple tomato-based olive oil dip. Quite good.

- Complimentary bread

The serving size of the ravioli was very small and I admit I was a bit disappointed at first. But on the first bite..wow, it's excellent! The flavours were intensely rich with every bite. One of the best ravioli dishes I've had. The ravioli pasta was not too thick and you could really taste the stuffing within. The truffle cream sauce was also very yummy.

- Ravioli stuffed with mushroom & cheese in a truffle cream sauce

The signature pizza had a lot of fresh seafood like mussels, scallops, prawns and squid. The crust was thin and crispy. A tad on the salty side for the seasoning of the seafood but generally great-tasting.

- signature Pizza Michael

Will definitely be back again lol

Decent food Smile Sep 21, 2013

I came to this outlet at Nex as I had two meal vouchers to redeem - a choice of chicken salad or aglio olio sphaghetti, plus a scoop of ice cream.

Once I sat down (I was earlier than my hubby), the wait staff served me promptly and asked if I wanted iced or warm water without any prompting or indication from my part - good service smile

The chicken salad came in a large bowl with a good mix of fresh vegetables. I especially liked the pine nuts given. The chicken slices were rather tasty too. The salad fork they gave was very huge though, I find it too unwieldy. It's good that the thousand island sauce was given on the side so you can choose how much you want to put inside your salad. Definitely a healthy meal. You'll be pretty full too if you finish the whole bowl of salad.

- Chicken salad

The aglio olio looked simple but it tasted really good. The spaghetti was cooked till al dente and plenty of olive oil and garlic was used to sautee the noodles with the mushrooms. The flavoring was also done well. I enjoyed this simple but well-cooked dish.

- Aglio Olio

The sticky chewy chocolate was quite nice although it seemed to be a bit different based on what I tasted a long time ago. The chocolate seemed slightly more "artificial". Or perhaps my taste buds are now more stringent...LOL
I do not particularly like the color of the lime ice cream but taste-wise, it's still alright. It's quite tangy and refreshing.

Freshly made otah OK Sep 21, 2013

"Regular" Otah

Otah without chilli - aka fish cake

I happened to be sitting in front of this stall while I was having lunch here. The otah was freshly wrapped and cooked on the spot. I saw quite a lot of people buying and some of them had to wait for their order - so it's almost guaranteed that the otah is all freshly made here. I bought 10 (you get 1 free) to bring home to supplement dinner later hee hee. The otah smelt really good when it was piping hot. Out of curiosity, I got some non-chilli otah too - which ended up to be just regular fish cake.

The otah was not bad, not too spicy and quite tasty. I did not find it to be spectacularly good, although my family members (who are fans of otah) liked them. I will not recommend the fish cake, as I find it to be rather normal and kinda pricey at 50 cents for such a small piece. Granted, the banana leaves added a nice fragrance to the fish cake but other than that, nothing special.

Perhaps the otah will taste nicer if you eat it right on the spot instead of packing it back like me. I'll buy just one to polish off right on the spot for my next visit smile

Salted egg chicken rice set - $6.80

There was a recommended new dish for today - the salted egg chicken rice set. The picture shown at the counter looked good, so I decided to try it. I was really disappointed when I saw my dish. There were only pathetically thin strips of chicken (as opposed to what I saw as bigger chicken chunks in their promo photo) which had more batter than meat. There was also not enough salted egg sauce to coat the chicken pieces. The amount of chicken given was so little, my dining companions actually pitied me and wanted to offer me some of their food... shocked The accompanying Japanese side salad and achar thankfully provided some solace. Otherwise, I would have been utterly devastated.

Nice chicken chop Smile Sep 20, 2013

Chicken chop - $6

For $6, the chicken chop here is slightly more expensive compared to other stalls in a hawker food centre setting. But it makes up for that by having a piece of nicely-toasted garlic bread as opposed to a plain bun. The coleslaw was pretty good as well. The chicken chop itself is tender and well-marinated. The sauce was not the best I've ever tasted but it's still rather tasty. The crinkle cut fries were also fried till just right. Generally quite a good dish.
