"Headed down to Fat Boy’s for my first ever hands-on burger making session with Openrice on Sunday, with the company of several other bloggers!"

"Look at that mighty mass of minced meat! We had the option of pork and beef; the adventurous ones went for a combination of both.

Patty-making tip: Add pork collar to the minced meat for a more succulent patty.

After we were done seasoning and moulding the patties into shape, we proceeded to choose our desired toppings, sauces and burger buns."

"The biggest appeal at Fat Boy’s is being able to customise your own burgers. Everyone is entitled to this, not just bloggers attending the hands-on burger making sessions. ;)

To start, choose your patty from beef ($8.80), lamb ($8.80), pork ($8), grilled chicken ($7.50) and salmon ($8.80). Next, choose your burger bun from sesame seed bun ($1.50), whole meal bun ($1.80) and honey oat bun ($1.80). There is a broad range of add-ons, such as Beetroot ($1), pickles ($1), jalapeño ($1), sundried tomatoes ($2), grilled bananas ($1) and grilled pineapple ($1) to name a few. As for the sauces, there’s wasabi mayonnaise, Caesar dressing, smoked chipotle, curry remoulade, mango chutney and more, ranging from $0.50 to $1.50.

Don’t be surprised when you see peanut butter and nutella on that list. “Were they merely there to cater to those with adversely eccentric taste buds?” Sometimes it is through audacious experimentations of unconventional combination of ingredients that yield unexpected surprises. "

"To complement my pork-and-beef patty (made myself!), I chose the Fried egg ($1.50), Portobello Mushroom ($4.50), Caramelised Onions ($1) with Roasted Garlic Aioli ($0.80) sauce to be sandwiched between Sesame Seed Buns ($1.50)."

"Apart from the succulent beef patty, another highlight was the Thick Malt Shakes (or milkshakes to put it simply). Milkshakes are also customisable. I ordered a peanut butter & vanilla milkshake ($7.50), and I was instantly hooked upon my first sip. The consistency is sufficiently thick and creamy; you can easily tell good quality ice cream is used.

Other Thick Malt Shakes include chocolate and strawberry, all $7, while add-ons include nutella, marshmallows, crushed oreo, banana and caramel. Alcohol lovers can add a dosage of baileys ($4.50) or kahlua ($4.50) to your slurpable bliss."

" AND I MADE MY VERY FIRST BURGER PATTY!!

Haha, I was greedy so I made it half beef half pork.
So I could try both flavors without having to eat too much!

Chose the Honey Oat Bun with Mushrooms, Cheese, Fried Egg, BBQ Sauce!
(TBH, there were SO MANY choices I wanted to try all of them!)"

"THERE WAS SO MANY CHOICES OF ADD ONS & SAUCES TO CHOOSE FROM!"

"Awesomely delicious!!"

" I'm so glad I did the seasonings just right cause it tasted SO SUPER awesome.
The bun had a little tiny sweet taste along with it, and the cheese + egg made the whole burger perfect!"

" My drink to go along:
Strawberry Milk Shake!
(My All Time Fav)

The Milk shake was one of the best I've tried in Sg."

"It was my 1st time visiting Fatboy’s The Burger Bar, thanks to OpenRice! I was there for a food tasting + burger-making session."

"Before the burger-making session, we got to try their Chili Queso and Corn Chips. Hmm... this appetizer did not impress me much. In my opinion, the corn chips were not exactly crunchy. The chili queso was not that spicy, and went quite well with the chips."

"Here's Bernie (owner of Fatboy’s The Burger Bar), teaching us how to make the patties. He was super action-packed."

"Build your own burger! Hmm... they've really weird special sauces for your burger, like peanut butter... mango chutney... NUTELLA! I can't imagine myself having beef burger with nutella =.=""

"Choice of bun: sesame seed, wholemeal, honey oat."

"Ahh... I made the biggest mistake of choosing the honey oat bun. It tasted good on its own, but definitely not with Fatboy's Homemade BBQ sauce. Too sweet for my liking. I prefer savory burgers.

For the add-ons, I had grilled portobello and cheese. The fries were normal, something that I could do without. The beef patty was not that juicy, probably b'coz it was done medium well. The burger size was just right for me. If you're a big eater, you can always go for double patty. heh."

"And now, here's the best milkshake ever - chocolate with BAILEYS! The chocolate milkshake on its own was $7 and adding Baileys was a mere $4.50! There are other add-ons like peanut butter, banana, caramel, just to name a few.

It was thick, smooth and oh-so-creamy. Ahh... yummilicious lol~

And so, the session ends on a happy note!"

"Notice the red meat in the pork patty? That’s actually the char siew meat and bacon to create a more chewy bite ;) Nice!"

"and here’s my pork patty, ready to cook! lol"

"and here’s my burger, topped with egg, cheese and BBQ sauce! Love the egg as the egg yolk is those runny kind, which is my favourite!! and when you bite on it, the egg yolk simply just BURST in your mouth! YUMMZ!"

"Other than their burgers, they have some interesting milkshake whereby you can create your own milkshake of whatever you one! For me, i ordered a banana oreo milkshake and if you are a alcoholic person, you can request to add in alcohol like baileys and khalua!"

"Thank you Open Rice and Fat Boys Burger Bar for this session! Had so much fun!"

Duck Rillette ($7.90)

"I love this bite-size appetizer which is nicely presented in a basket with cracker slices, Romaine lettuce, gherkin & pickled pearl onion. The duck rillette may be a little too salty for some but when eaten together with the crackers, lettuce and pickled onions, the flavour balances out quite well. I will recommend this if you like something light, tasty yet not too filling to start off your meal."

Duck Leg Confit ($10.90)

"The duck leg confit turned out dry and tough the previous time I had but thankfully for this time, it was moist and tender. Served alongside with homemade mashed potato, sauté shiitake mushroom, orange segments and orange infused natural jus, it adds different dimensions helps to cut down on the rich flavour and oiliness of the duck leg confit."

Pistachio Panna Cotta ($6.90)

"Who would have thought Saveur would have serve good modern European desserts besides French cuisine? Prepared by the pastry chef, I could not stop myself digging into the Pistachio Panna Cotta after my first mouthful. Thanks to the luscious Pistachio-flavoured cooked cream, topped with ground and caramelised pistachio, each bite was so crunchy and nutty that I thought I was on cloud nine."

Textures of Citrus ($6.90)

"If you’re a health conscious eater yet want something sweet to end your meal, you would love this Textures of Citrus which has everything fruity on plate. Looking like a deconstructed fruit salad, there are blood orange jelly served with orange granité, freeze-dried pineapple, feuilletine, citrus segments with refreshing lime zest. I would say this is a perfect dessert especially after a heavy meal."
