With a bustling international food scene along the Hong Kong Street in Jurong Point, The Gang offers up everything from HK curry fish balls to mock shark fin soup all , a good spread of authentic Hong Kong Street Sides authentic finger foods like Curry Ping Pong Fishballs, squid tentacles and even chee cheong fun.

They have an extensive selection of Hong Kong Skewers to choose from. The convenient, quick, cheap and full of flavour street food give any hungry passer by a good hit on their stomach. We picked the selected item and everything was dipped into the respective gravy for a intensive taste and also to heat up the item. The items were then placed into a cup sealed up like a cup of bubble tea.

I was rather turned off by my first bite on the braised Tau Pok as it was extremely salty, perhaps it has absorbed too much of its gravy, likewise for the pig's skin.

The concept of its fuss-free dining environment and its take away packaging is ingenious. Other than that, the style of items cooked was simply too salty for my intake.

Spending per head: Approximately $3(Tea)

A continual food trail to yesterday's post, we had Fried carrot Cake (black) version as one of the dishes too.

Though Chinatown Food Street is a one stop station for local delights, such traditional dish are hardly steamed by themselves anymore and most of them came in a pack from the factory. The black version does not has any distinct taste but rather salty in the plate. It's more of the plain small rectangular cut carrot cake coated in sweet black sauce and fried over the heat for a while.

It was another disappointment of the night.

We were all excited about Chinatown Food Street and this was our second visit to "clear" those stalls that we didn't have the chance to try during the firs time. We settled down with a table and each of us when around the street to scout for food.

And Popiah was one of the Chinese snacks tried during our gathering.Standard was below par, instead of the thin translucent popiah skin that encases the fillings, we were given a thicker version skin on the snack. It was quite a turn off as it was not easy on our teeth as it ought to be.

Spending per head: Approximately $2(Supper)

Trattoria Italian kitchen is located at a strategic place as it is located at the ground floor of 313 Somerset diagonally opposite the MRT exit. Layout and design of the dining place was tailored to an Italian environment whereby Italy flag was seen hanging and the 3 main colors of Italy Flag was also part of Trattoria Business Icon.

Alfresco Dining Concept was adopted here and the area was near to the common walkways in the mall, I would say those who visit Somerset 313 will never fail to pass by this corner especially when it is a little distance away from the escalator. For those who enjoy the crowd, this place is bustling. However if you want somewhere quiet for a chat, it's not that ideal as I had to raised my voice in my conversation.

The menu of Trattoria was rather creative as they tied a booklet with a white chopping board as it base. The Italian menu was quite understandable as the menu has English elaborations on the dishes available. Though so, it took us quite sometimes to order as I'm still very "green" to italian main dish except for pizzas.

Beverages served were relatively fast thus allowing us to make ourselves comfortable and settle down for some good chats while waiting for the mains.

While my friend had a cup of coffee.

The Calamari rings we had as starters were not too bad just that the color was abit far more than expected. The fresh squid rings were coated in their in-house batter, deep fried and served with tartar sauce, a perfect choice as Antipasti while waiting for the mains.

Home made oven baked lasagna layered with beef ragu and bechamel sauce. Passable taste but not to die for.

The main was a disaster for me, regretted totally in ordering such dish. I had a "tough" fight with the chicken for the whole meal with my fork and knife. Perhaps the only portion I like was its top in Tomato and Cheese only while the rest was below par. I'm simply shocked with the kind of standard, meat was very tough and some portions were too crispy to be bitten.

The experienced we had in terms of service received was not up to standards. Servers were rather rude. Initially we had two tables to ourselves but in the midst of enjoying our conversation and dinner, the server walked up and interrupted mentioning that the table will be taken away in a abrupt manner without any apologies. Attentiveness is also lacking in area.

There are alot of room for improvement on their service and food.

Spending per head: Approximately $30(Dinner)

Curry Times where the name suggests curry as their core business is actually managed by Old Chang Kee. A strategic location they are located as they are directly link to Jurong East MRT Station.

Curry Times

As I walk into the restaurant, the time machine had somehow winded the time back into the 60s-70s where things are so old school with traditional Chinese decorations at corners of the restaurant, Ceilings decorated with bird cages hanging, even the servers they were dressed in those "Ah-Ma" clothing. I bet people who has went through the era could have probably have the kind of sentiments reviving memories of those old good days.
A great reminisce at a corner in Curry Times

A great reminisce at a corner in Curry Times

Coffee Chendol was pretty new to me. Served in a cup in mixture of coffee with chendol. Jelly, Attap Seeds as well as red bean. Not very sweet but wasnt a good choice to mix with curry.

I had a cup of spite in Lychee Syrup added with 2 little lychee.

We had their Curry Noodles, one in a bowl with Ramen while the other in Thick Bee Hoon. It came with boiled chicken pieces, half boiled egg, slices of fish cakes as well as lady's fingers. Curry was rather diluted with just enough portion of chicken. We were somehow disappointed with the taste. Moreover the ramen was quite "bloated" in shape and was too soft to bite in my opinion.

On a side note and into the process of making a bowl of the curry noodles. It was prepared with in a healthier manner such that no coconut milk was added.

Help yourselves with the sugar gems as well as the cookies over at their cashier counters.

Ta-da! Here it go! I had scooped mine into the paper cup provided.

Perhaps I have set too much expectation on them as I roughly given them a benchmark based on the food in Old Chang Kee's curry puff and its suggestive business name "Curry". Though it may be a healthier version of curry, it somehow still lack the oomph of what should have in a bowl of curry noodles.
