Another Thai Food Restaurant Off the list! We used to talk about having Aroy Dee for meal everytime when we pass by Middle Road especially when this Kitchen is just located next to LE Cafe. We all heard good claims about the kitchen and perhaps why it was there for such a long time.

Interior is rather modern with semi open concept kitchen. Furnishing are made up of metal chairs and wooden table with tiles flooring. They also include a mounted television for diners to watch and enjoy their meal.

Clear Tom Yam Seafood Soup was appetizing and even though we forgot to instruct the server to make it less spicy, I would say that spiciness was mild and the soup really whet my appetite for more. Ingredients include fish slices, tomato, lemon grass, coriander and Sotong, which were nothing out of the normal soup we had.

Pineapple fried rice portion was generous and good for sharing. Tasted mediocre with chicken floss, raisins, eggs and mixed vegetables. A bit disappointing!
Pineapple Fried Rice with Chicken Floss - $6.50

The pandan chicken leaves were fried to crisp and required some efforts to unwrapped before we can get hold of the meat. The turmeric used was a tad too much and meat was rather soft. Overall, tasted like chicken satay to me. Dip them into the sweet and sour chilli sauce and enjoy it.

Pandan Chicken - $10

Phad Thai, which is always one of my favourite under the Thai Cuisine Menu was really to my liking as we prefer to have a dryer version than this. However, in terms of taste, it was still alright with the fragrant of peanuts and sweet savoury sauce coated on the noodle.

Phad Thai - $6.50

Thai Fried Fish was something I always wish to order but always get turned off by its expensive pricing. Due to promotion, it cost $19.90 instead of $28. Fried Garoupa was well presented with vegetables as sides sprinkled with few stalks of coriander and soaked mildly in their three taste sauce. The sauce was not too bad with sweetness, saltiness and a little sourish.

Garoupa with Special Three Taste Sauce - $19.90

Last but not least the papaya Salad with salty crab. There was a promotion to this item at $9 instead of $15. I'm kind of fool by the menu as I thought that it was salted egg crab. This appetiser wasnt too pleasing to us, firstly it was served when we almost finished our meal and secondly, the papaya salad was too spicy for us. In the end, we left almost 90% of the food on table.

The good thing about the eating place is good for supper goers as it opens till as early as 6am in the morning. If you want to have pocket friendly food that comes with generous portion, this can be one of your choices. However, if you are particular about taste of Thai food then you have to be selective of what you are ordering in the menu. Personally, I have expected their standard items like Pineapple Fried Rice and Phad Thai to be better. Therefore, it is less likely I will be back for other items on the menu.

For more details visit https://www.umakemehungry.com/2018/06/kotobuki.html

Kotobuki has been around since decades despite being located in an old school building in somewhere quite inaccessible. While translated from Japanese, Kotobuki means Longevity and perhaps so, this restaurant has been living up to her name. I could not remember when was the first time that I have visited their first restaurant which is this in Jurong. Till now, it still remains a very popular dining place with 8 private dining rooms and have approximately of seating capacity of 100 pax. An hour hour of dining there with our observations, you will realize that the number of Japanese expats patronizing the place.

Interior furnishing was something that left me a great impression and perhaps the reason for my return now. They have a woody old Japanese style furnishing and environment is cosy. Apart from that, they are airing Japanese Channel on the TV too.

For dinner, enjoy the Happy Hour at 20% discount from 5.30pm to 7pm.

For drinks, the green tea is refillable and I pretty enjoy their service with Green Tea promptly refill by their attentive staff.

Set comes with appetizer of the day (which is potato salad), fruits, miso soup and rice with each item occupying one corner of the tray. With the main dish placed in the center of the tray with shreded cabbages and tomatoes as sides, as a whole, i find that its appetizing. Ginger sauce were evenly coated on eat piece of pork in the "just right" portion. Each piece of meat is generously served in its rights thickness and do not worry, you do not have to bite on any tough meat as they are quite easy to chew on.

Pork Ginger Set - $16

Presentation was the same for the Teriyaki Set. Main dish was wonderfully created with charred grilled edges on the teriyaki chicken thigh. Chicken Teriyaki Sauce was given sparingly however, the dish was made perfect with dab on the Mayonnaise.

It will be good to enjoy such meals once a while as they are unique from the mainstream dishes that
the chain restaurants are offering. Price may be a little bit steeper than the usual ones but I would say it is value worth for money.

Spending per head: Approximately $20(Dinner)

Under the Indian Category in the Menu, we ordered the Chicken Briyani as it was so tempting to see many of the diners had one of such plate on the table.

Im not a fan of brownie but this dessert scored some marks. It's from Auntie Molly's recipe that comprised 70% of Dark Chocolate with Salted Caramel and Apple Cinamon, Hazelnuts and Walnuts topped with choice of Italian Gelato. Sweetness was well balanced with the tad bitterness of the Dark Chocolate.

Molly's Brownie - $8.90

Though food is quite good, with its far-flung location, it is less likely we will be there often but for view and tranquility environment, it will be good that we should come here and dine once in a while.

http://www.umakemehungry.com/2018/03/pocoloco.html

Despite residing in the West Side for such long period, I only get to know of PocoLoco through words of mouth from my friends and colleagues. This is truly a hidden find located at the heartlands of Level 2 Snow City just beside Science Centre.

The ambiance was causal and welcoming with simple furnishings laid out in the dining area under the warm lighting.

We had Carpaccio (Chef Recommendation) as our starters. It was quite appetizing with thinly sliced beef tenderloin garnished with balsamic vinegar and a dash of truffle essence. Together with the rocket salad and cherry tomatoes topped with Parmesan Cheese shavings, it was addictive.

Mushroom soup was one of the chef's recommendations too. Like that the soup was warm and taste was pleasing to stomach without being too creamy.

My friend had tried the Mushroom soup and decided to order their tomato soup. Initially I thought it was just normal tomato soup till it was served where I get to see the clams in it. Tomato seafood soup was tangy and has a mild seafood taste, it was a well balance of taste without one another's taste overpowering each other.

We was craving for Vongole pasta all along and hoping that this will be our fix. The pasta noodles were al dente, firm and yet having the springy texture. Altogether it was a great pairing up with these clams in white sauce.

Some of the menu are seasonal and we had the Roasted Iberico Pork in Brown Sauce as one of our mains. The mean was well seasoned and roasted, coupled with some potatoes, corns and french beans as the side. It was a great pairing in the brown sauce and meat was fork tender. Recommended!

We are kind of too use to the usual chocolate lava cake, hence we decided to order the Matcha Lava which is also one of their Chef Recommendations. Having desserts make one happy. Upon serving, you can whiff the strong aroma from the Matcha Cake. For those who love to take videos for the social media, this is a very good chance! As soon as you cut open the cake, the lava starts flowing profusely. Well, having the lava alone is simply for the sweet tooth, I will say it is best to go with the vanilla ice cream if you don't really take sweet stuff.

Matcha Lava - $10.90

To be honest, I love the ambiance and settings of the restaurant. Too bad we were driving and couldnt order their home brew alcohol. I bet the next time round when we are back, we will want to try the beers and not forgetting other chef recommended dishes that were left on the menu.

Signs a Taste of Vietnam Pho Smile Mar 15, 2018

http://www.umakemehungry.com/2018/03/signs-taste-of-vietnam-pho.html

At the basement of Midpoint Orchard, we will get to see a humble Vietnam Pho tucked at the corner of corner of the building. Just like many other "hole in the wall" eateries, the stall looks simple with functional furnishing. However behind the stall, its manned by a couple who is deaf. Despite the communication barriers, this couple took up the challenge and set up the F&B business.

The menu is pretty straight forward with Pho Noodles, spring rolls, Vietnamese Smoothies and drinks, compact and similar to most pho stall we have here. Diners will need to pen down their orders on the dining chit and pass back to the counter, thereafter once the food ready, it will be served to our table.

No doubt Vietnamese Spring Roll is my Must Order in every Viet cuisine, I didnt had the chance to try it as there is no room for them, reason being I'm dining alone, thus I had the simplest bowl of Pho with Sliced Beef Ribeye Pho and extra topping of sliced beef ribeye.

The bowl of pho tasted authentic and without any use of MSG. It was light and refreshing with onions, beansprouts and hints of herb taste. Squeezing the juice from the wedge of lime seemingly enliven the taste. Sliced beef were tender and broth was tasty, dabbed these sliced beef into the chilli for some spicy kick.

The only disadvantage here perhaps maybe the limitation of seating and phone reception. Other than that food is commendable and definitely worth a return.

It is a definite dining experience I had here and I can strongly sense their strong passion from the service rendered, trying their best to serve each meal.
