http://www.umakemehungry.com/2017/05/nobiro-japanese-restaurant-sake-bar.html

Up in the quiet residential of Faber Hill, you will get to find a hidden gem Japanese Restaurant humbly located along the shophouses stretch. However if you are familar with Buck Tile St Cafe, they are just side by side and you definitely won't miss it.

Nobiro Japanese Restaurant & Sake Bar

Nobiro Japanese Restaurant & Sake Bar

The Izakaya Style Restaurant has an extensive menu serving Japanese dishes, including western dishes, sashimi as well as grill delights and its worth a visit especially you want to have some taste of Japanese Sake away from the crowd. You might be surprised they have as many as 50 types of Sake stored in their chiller. Impressive!

Interior is modernly furnished and there is even a game corner right after the entrance for guests to enjoy it while waiting for their food.

We ordered the recommended home made Honey Lemon drink.

Under the Mains in the menu, we found this special combination of Bacon, Prawn and Cabbage Omlette. Though it may be quite an average item for some but credits goes to the smooth runny egg omlette, wrapping up the shredded cabbages underneath. With it marrying the sweet sauce, mayonnaise and bonito flakes, everything was yummy!

A recommended item on their menu. The texture of Grilled Squid was tender and packed with slight hint of smoky flavour. Squeeze some lemon juices on top on the Squid and dabbed them onto the Mayonnaise and enjoy!

With a straight forward setup and presentation, the Hiyashi Soba is quite ordinary.

Serving of Oyako don was done on a porcelain bowl, covered with a big wooden spoon placed by the side. Enjoy the aroma of Oyakodon rushes in as you open the bowl cover.

Light flavours of rice with flavourful egg and yellow onion. What a comfortable homely meal we had in Nobiro. It is a tad too light in flavours as we preferred it to be saltier in taste but no worries in my opinion it is still as good.

We are very please to have Yakitori fresh from the charcoal grill and ordered Omakase Set B at $30.80 which consist of 10 Sticks of Yakitori base on Nobiro's Selection. However you can also go for their Omakase Set A at $15.80 for 5 sticks of Yakitori.

Servings were split into 3 parts and were served separately too. The first plate consist of Chilli red grilled tomato, leeks and mushrooms. Simply love these freshly prepared grill vegetables especially in its smoky flavours.

Not a fan of chicken liver but I would say this is very well executed with the terkiyaki sauce.

The last portion of the Yakitori were served in a plate of 5 with a lemon wedge by the side. For those who don't really like the innards taste, the lemon juice can be of a very good way to reduce it. Let's take a look at the items...

Categories : Fusion

Adrift is a 4,000 sqft restaurant-bar located in the hotel Tower 2 lobby of Marina Bay Sands, offering a good range of dishes that incorporate Southeast Asian Flavours and Californian flair by Celebrity Chef David Myers, also, not forgetting the list of cocktails created by Sam Ross, a famous New York-based bartender.

With restaurant week, i managed to secure a booking slot for their 3 courses meal through the online system. Booking was a breeze and coupled with a few phone calls reminder from the restaurant nearing the date.

Welcoming us, the chef had given every table a plate of rice crisp as a compliment to his guests. It was a kind gesture as it gave customers some time to settle down and feel comfortable in the environment while enjoying the rice crisp dipping into the Wasabi flavoured mayonnaise.

Something to Start

Kicking off our 3 courses meal with Edamame Soup which never failed to impress. We detected hints of pleasant favour from the Edamame and vanilla soy milk emulsion elevated the presentation among the pool of velvety soup. Despite its thickness, it was not too overwhelming and we managed to polish off everything including its tomato confit and peas from the edamame.

An intriguing dish with ginger seaweed vinaigrette & kinome. It packs a mouthful of flavour and both the citrus as well as sourly taste left my stomach welcoming more food.

Larger Plates

Their Wagyu Cheeseburger is strongly advocate for! Medium done Wagyu beef patty was better than what I could ask for. With the just right fat marbling, its juiciness along with the melting gruyere cheese were such an awesome combination as well as with pickled jalapeno and rocket leaves topping up the taste of the cheeseburger.

Shaved cheese scattered all over the tomato jam that were generously spread on the toasted bun and were yummy!

On usual occasion, this burger would cost about $25.

Sake marinated salmon were topped with poached broccoli flowers. Despite having lemon vinaigrette on the seared salmon, the man who tasted my food still find it tasted a little on the fishy side and felt that the meat was with medium done-ness. Given a choice over the two mains, I would prefer the burger.

Dessert

Finally to the 3rd and also the last course of our lunch. We have both their desserts stated on the menu and Calamansi threw a surprise on the table. Dessert is cooling and made up of Creme Fraiche (meaning Fresh Cream) and also creamsicle.

Thinking about it now, it's making me drools. The seperate thin layer of sweet crisp was topped with shredded calamansi zest which gave a sweet, sour and bitter combination among the chilling dessert.

Not to mention their caramel french toast whereby Toast was thick, decorated with zig zag kopi syrup and topped with a scoop of coconut sorbet, giving both a warm and cold moments in this dish.

We had another round of complimentary items by Adrift as soon as we paid our bills and they were special packaged popcorns. It was a nice guesture to end our meal, also leaving a good impression to diners like me.

Talking about Professionalism in their service, that is definite, not mentioning their food that was never fail to amaze me throughout. This is a great place to hangout if you are looking for a better environment and have abit more to stretch on your wallets.

Every Ricebox comes with seasonal vegetables, pickles and a braised egg. If you are craving for some Taiwanese snacks, Woo Ricebox also offers a variety of them like Fried Sweet Potato, Salt & Pepper popcorn chicken.

Taiwanese Cuisine is often known for their braised meat and one of their staples will be none other than the bowl of braised minced pork rice. Simple and straight forward meal, with 3 items combination like preserved vegetables, braised egg and minced meat on top of the fragrance and soft pearl grain rice. Enjoy the delicious non greasy Minced Pork Ricebox in its authentic Taiwanese Flavours.

To let customers enjoy the best, Woo's drumstick is fried upon order, therefore a 15 minutes of wait is definitely required.

Another item on the menu will be their Taiwan Roast Pork Ricebox, the fried Roast Pork is as addictive as the chicken drumstick, packed full of fragrance. They are sliced into pieces, thus more convenient to patrons who don't want to make their fingers oily, this will be a better choice. Other than the meat, other items in the ricebox are pretty standards.

For those who have been to Taiwan and had their Railway rice box, you will notice the authenticity of what Woo had offered from their Tau Gua to Sauteed Vegetables and even the taste of the braised pork if you have tried.

Overall, Woo Ricebox is definitely my kind of choice when it comes to Taiwanese Cuisine. Without going to Taiwan, having them in Singapore is a good way to reminisce the times I was in Taiwan digging into these packed meals on their railway.

Sean Kee - Dine In  Smile Nov 29, 2015   (Related Review)

For more reviews,visit www.umakemehungry.com

After a few tries again, we finally got our butts in the Coffeeshop where Sean Kee is located - Dine In. The previous visit to Sean Kee was a takeaway and within few weeks from the last visit, we managed to visit them on a Public Holiday. We did a comparison among our visits from take away to trying out them in the Food Festival. Experience was different but I would say their braised duck was remarkable.

For Dine In, though the braised rice portion is considerably half a portion lesser than take away. However, the sweet & salty gravy cradles each grain of rice well.

During this time of visit, besides the 3 big brothers who was manning the stall, their dad was there too.

As a soup lover, the best part of dining in the coffeehouse itself is to get a bowl of soup. Soup was tasty and with hints of herbs smell, however it also gave us a sense that it was filled with lots of MSG based on the strong taste.

The mix platter was generously done with braised peanut, cucumber and beansprouts on top of the sweet braised duck meat, braised hard boil egg as well as braised Tau Gua. The tick and lucious gravy had spread all over it revealing a little sweetness which appeals to my taste buds.

Cut on the braised duck was relatively even with meat being tender and tantalizing to the palate.

If you like your braised duck to go with some porridge, its also available at Sean Kee. The texture of the porridge was smooth and gooey, almost like a small bowl of Congee. Once again, their dark brown gravy do wonders on the plain bowl of porridge too and seriously, I dont mind having extra bowl of it apart from a bowl of rice.

Having experience both dine in and take away from Sean Kee, I would say that I would prefer having the dine in method as we get to have a good feel and taste of braised duck at its best condition. The portion of duck and rice marked a big differences between dine in and take away too. Thus, Dine In is definitely recommended.

It's all about the best braised duck find! The crave for love of braised duck just got stronger over one weekend that I suddenly felt the urge to try Sean Kee's braised duck immediately after having my braised duck meal at South Bouna Vista Famous Teochew Duck Rice along Verdun Road. Braised Duck has been always my comfort food since young be it its in the Teochew or Hokkien Style. Through words of mouth, I was told that Sean Kee has the best braised duck in Singapore.

Due to the trouble of securing a parking space in the area, we decided to do a take away instead of dining there.

The stall is manned by 3 big sized man who are brothers. Do not feel inferior about their size as they are friendly and enjoy some good laughs on job. One of them took my order and as a team, packets of duck rice were ready in no time.

As he scooped the rice onto the grease paper, I was totally attracted to it as every grain of rice was in consistent brown color. Portion of rice given was far more than generous. I added Tau Gua and braised peanuts together with their special chilli sauce. The first mouthful was impressive. It has a kind of unique taste that the usual braised duck stall do not have. Meat was tender, definitely better than what I had earlier. It does not have an overpowering of herb taste and was perfect on the go when you dab them onto the chilli.

The chilli too has a very special taste, it tasted like a mixture of sweet sour chilli together in sambal. What a unique blend!

Even though it was packet food, it still taste as yummy after hours.

Sean Kee is closed on alternate Saturday and since this time round I haven't got any chance to dine in, I will find to make a return in upcoming Saturday to have a good taste of their soup and other add ons to the plate.
