Jackson Cry Sep 04, 2014

Categories : Fujian/Heng Hwa | Hawker Centre | Noodles

It was a Saturday night and we decided to take a visit to the east side. Having missed Old Airport's delicacies, we went back to reminisce the good old times, at the same time to explore some of the food there.

Jackson Fried Hokkien Mee was introduced to me and I was told is one of the recommended must try.

I was rather disappointed by the fried Hokkien Mee. Although it was consistently fried with pork lard bits added to level up its fragrance, it was lacking the oomph! The ratio of yellow noodles and white noodles was about 1:1.Prawns was rather stinky and the prawn stock that those mee was fried in was of the ordinary standard - tasteless.

I still remember back then when Botak Jones was the "In" thing among the western food and everyone was patiently lining up for their portion of Muslim (Halal) western Food be it in Industrial or heartland area. One of Botak's Favourite stall is located in the West of Singapore at under Blk 233 Bukit Batok East Avenue 5, right at the corner of the coffeeshop.

A buzzer is given to customers after making payment. Though self service was expected, the helpers had actually sent us the food when it was ready.

We were quite excited and looking forward to having the Cajun meals. Waiting time was quite long about 20 minutes. The cheesy spread together with the tangy tomato sauce over the orange brown layer of the chicken was looking appetizing. However, the outlook of the meal did not have a good match with the taste. Though it was tender but the marinated taste was not up to expectation.

Sides like coleslaw was overdone I felt, too milky, loaded with mayonnaise whereas the sweet corns were dry and almost tasteless. sad

Thigh meat was tender than the breast meat and the marinated taste was flavorsome. The baked beans was nothing but from canned food, it was not heated up and fries tasted pretty common.

My visit to Botak's Favourites had changed my impression on them totally. It is unlikely that I will be back again.

Hainanese Curry Rice Cry Mar 27, 2014
Categories : Hainanese

24 Hrs Haiananese Curry Ricealong Rall Mall, does it sound interesting? Well, upon seeing Haianese Curry, I already convinced to have it for lunch. Food stalls business are rather competitive in the stretch of shop houses as many of them are opening 24 hours.

The shop was spacious, neat with wallpapers displaying the food and their history. Menu was limited, with 6 available kinds of meal. Patrons can add additional dollar for a glass of lime juice.

I had pork chop rice set over lunch. There was nothing in particular that attract me and in my opinion they are more than ordinary as compared to most Hainanese Curry Rice. The set comes with an egg, few pieces of crispy fried pork chop and braised vegetables.
No doubt that curry gravy had drenched my whole plate of rice, the pork cutlet was not served at its best. It was cold and the battered had some weird smell which was totally not in my favour. Braised vegetables was bland in taste and was a disappointment.

Although the meal comes in set, there are available options for other items. For another plate of pork chop set, we had sambal egg added at additional $1.

In summary, I will say that their taste of Hainanese Curry Rice was to my expectation. At a similar price, there are better options among the shop houses.

Delcie's Cry Dec 16, 2013

Categories : Bakery | Desserts and Cakes

Delcie's Cakeshop is first and only bakery (2011, 2012, 2013) in Singapore that is awarded with the Healthier Choice Bakery Certification by Health Promotion Board.Tucked at one corner among the vegetarians and organic eateries in Fortune Centre, I came to know Delcie's through the local Television program.

It's a good choice for strict vegetarian who wants to enjoy cake as they do not contain any eggs or diary product. Their cakes were baked naturally without any artificial content. What's more, they are allergy and diabetic friendly which is nutritious and sinless.

Cakes were packed in a fun packaging like this which reminds me of McDonald's Happy Meal. Wordings on the cupboard had also emphasized that their cakes and desserts are organic, egg-free, diary free, diabetic friendly and guilt free.

When I walked towards their display panels and noticed the price of their cakes, I had a shocked of my life. What? $11 for a piece of cake? I was hesitant but end up buying as I wanted to give it a try. To think back, since they are using all natural ingredients, this is probably why it was priced differently.

There was only one piece left and I thought shouldn't rainbow colors are of a lighting shades than these dark colors. Just like the rainbow, the cake was make up of 7 colors with a thin layer of cream in between each layer.

The first bite of it gave a big frown on both our faces. If you ever tried the chinese Huat Kueh (Brown Color), they tasted just like one. They were not sweet but rather bitter in between.

Black forest cakes were make up of berries jam ath the top layer with cream between the layers as well. While the rainbow cake tastes almost tasteless, this was the reversed. We agreed that the cake was way too sweet for us to handle. Yet another disappointment, 2 hit combo!
Black Forest Cake - $8

Black Forest Cake - $8

Perhaps I'm not really use to cakes without eggs nor I had sweet tooth for its Black Forest Cake. We felt shortchange by the quality and standards. They were not our cup of tea. We had bought an experience and its enough.

Dragon Fruit Juice Cry Dec 12, 2013
Categories : Food Court

Drink Dragon Fruit Juice can maintain good skin as Dragon Fruit contains Vitamin B3 found in the fruit which aids in fighting against aging and blemishes.

The white version of dragon fruit was used in the juice instead. The drink was rather disappointing and artificially sweet with syrup and taste of dragon fruit was diluted. The top of the drink has a layer of foam which make it not really suitable to drink from the cup. Anyway for such sweetened drink, the price was simply too costly.
