Scrumptious at the Turf Cry Sep 22, 2015
Categories : European | Kids-Friendly

After walking one round at The Grandstand we decided for unit #01-08 while viewing from the directory and headed towards Scrumptious at the Turf.

Environment

Environment was rather pleasant and not too much of people as it was after the official dinner hours. Looking at the nicely decorated blackboard at Scrumptious, All-Day Breakfast was being served.

Since we were rather late for dinner, we quickly made our orders with 2 mains and 1 side. It was not too soon when the service guy approached us that all chicken mains were sold out and he apologized for it mentioning it was a long day. He suggested that we could take the Pan Seared Dory as an alternative and I agreed.

We waited for about half hour then our appetizer were served. The Spam Fries were nothing interesting, dull thick cut meats deep fried and place on a plain white plate. Texture was not too bad with some crisp on its external however, it would be perfect if they were harder in bite and not too big in size.
Spam Fries - $9

Spam Fries - $9

Observing the on goings throughout the wait, with one of the tables complaining their buffalo wings were not cooked, and we started to notice that something was very amiss and was pondering how much longer do we need to wait.

Unfortunately, the wait wasn't for us. To make things worst, one of us had to rush back immediately due to work commitment. We tried calling off the bill and initially we were rejected but shortly the In-Charge came over and agree upon as we emphasized we had really something urgent to attend to.

He repeatedly apologize for causing the blunders and even offered our fries free but in the end we left paying.

It's all about team work when it comes to operating the Cafe. Luckily the kitchen is kind of opened concept with the glass panels and we were able to view the happenings. There were only 4 staff on service during our time of visit about 9pm which I would say over the peak hours. Keeping in mind that the crowd wasn't too many, the speed of serving was indeed very slow. The body languages from the 2 chefs in the kitchen had shown the reluctance in their job even though the so called Team Lead had emphasized the upcoming orders countless time that even offered to prepare some of the ingredients from them. It's all about getting serious on the job and it showed how much efforts the chefs had put in by their unpleasant and ignorant attitude. From what we observed, the team lead was caught in the middle and no matter how many times the team lead tried hard to recover its service, apologizing to customers just doesn't help after all. With so many bad reviews around, it would be at best the management could do something to clear its name.

Sigh what a night!

338 (Wanton Noodle) Cry Aug 28, 2015

For more reviews, visit http://www.umakemehungry.com/2015/04/338-wanton-noodle.html

Though I have been residing in Jurong West for many many years, visiting the far end of Jurong has never been in my mind. Perhaps the last time that I ever visit this place was like 2 years back and back in my head, I remember that Best Coffee Pte Ltd is known for its Wanton Mee and Nasi Lemak.

Having remembering so, I had decided for Wanton Mee as my dinner. Dinner crowd was inevitable in the coffeeshop environment and it takes a while to grab a table. However, I notice that the crowd for the stall was no longer what I saw as before. Nevertheless, I continued to order.
Wanton Mee - $3.30

Wanton Mee - $3.30

What's makes up the dish are all the commonly seen, with a few pieces of Char Siew Meat, blanched vegetables with noodles doused in black sauce, accompanied by a bowl of 3 wantons soup. There was nothing impressive in particular, perhaps the Char Siew Meat was lean and soup was tasty. Other than that I find that the noodles were greasy yet sticking together as a lump.

Sighs, it's no longer the Wanton Noodle stall I used to know.

Thai Gold Food Cry Jun 07, 2015
Categories : Thai

I chanced upon Thai Gold Food quite a few years back when I was around Sunshine Plaza and had totally forgotten about it. And just sometimes back, I happened to see some of their food posted online by fellow netizens and since I was craving for some Thai Cuisine, I thought it will be good to have my gathering in Thai Gold Food.
Thai Gold Food

Thai Gold Food

Thai Gold Food environment is a rather down to earth and simple eatery without having too much decorations. Instead, the Chinese Thai Food Eatery as hanging paper pineapples and some old looking chinese new year decorations hanging from their chip board fore-ceilings, thus don't expect dining in those fanciful modern Thai Restaurants.

The menu of Thai Gold Food was long and comes in hard cover form. As you flipped the cover page, you will find that the illustrations of the dishes on the picture was not really clear as the graphics were distorted.
Menu

Menu

The taste of lemon grass was too faint till it brought some confusion if that was actually lime drink or lemon grass. However when confirmed with them, it was lemon grass drink. *shrug*

Thai Ice Lemon tea was a tad bitter and sour. I guess this is how the Thai style lemon tea drink is all about.

Pineapple fried rice with chicken comes with floss on the top and was pineapple cubes were found amongst the luminous bright yellow rice. The coloring on the rice was quite overpowering and totally not my style. Disappointing.

The presentation of phad thai was gluey and looked too moist in the serving. I find the dish rather salty and a trick to reduce the saltiness is to squeeze on the lime all over on the dish and mix them well.

The Thai Fish Cakes come in a serving of 4, orangy in color and best to pair with their sweet and sour thai chilli. Fish cakes were springy, however there is a strong fish smell which some of us could not really take it.

We have the clear version to the red version as one of us did not like coconut milk. The seafood version of Tom Yum Soup has prawns, fish slices, fishballs, sotongs and mushrooms in it. It's quite decent and rated one of the best dishes out of all.

Spice level still fall within acceptable range and not too bad.

The pandan chicken were well wrapped and seated in the leaves, reminding me of little version of dumplings. Chicken marination was good but not to die for.

Overall standard is mediocre, it was a disappointing dinner. Perhaps I shall look around for some my Thai Cuisine Fix.

Ai Mian Zi Cry Dec 28, 2014
Categories : Coffeeshop | Noodles

I cant help smiling when it comes to reading of the signboard. In relation to its business industry and the food they are selling, the name would suggest the love for noodles but if you are reading it in a fun manner, the name will give another meaning saying that one is generally concern and sensitive about their reputation.

The nature business of Ai Mian Zi is associated with the local noodle dishes such as laksa, fishabll noodles and minced meat noodle, a common stall that you will find almost everywhere in most coffee shops in Singapore.

Ai Mian Zi

Minced pork noodle was average, a simple combination of braised mushrooms, meatballs, minced pork, liver and lean meat. With chilli base option to go with my Mee Pok dry, I find that they were quite salty. On the other hand the mee pok tasted a bit on the harder side.

Minced Pork Noodle - $3

While my dining partner had another version of their noodles in lean meat only. Though the meat was cooked well, the noodles were dry as well and fell below expectation.

Minced meat noodle - $4 (big)

Given a choice over my meals, I will choose to explore other food stalls in the coffeeshop. However, if there aren't any much choice for me, I will still have Ai Mian Zi if I want to fill my stomach only.

After going Teban Market Place for so many times, I came to discovered that there is actually a stall in the corner selling Western Food. Food is Halal certified and the stall is managed by chinese guys.

Waited about 5 min for my chicken chop and was amazed by the presentation. The chicken chop was already cut up into pieces with sides like fries, coleslaw, baked beans and garlic bread in their respective section on the huge plate.

One can choose to have a side of fries or rice and mushroom sauce or black pepper sauce over the chicken chop. Taste from my chicken chop was bland even though mushroom sauce was added, I would prefer a more charred version of chicken chop with a stronger taste from the sauce.

Coleslaw on the other hand was light in taste too, lacking of the mayonnaise and creamy punch which I look out for. Fries were dry but the garlic toast complimented it.

Overall, I find that the overall taste falls below my expectation.
