Magnum Singapore Pleasure Store OK Nov 18, 2014

Categories : Desserts and Cakes | Ice Cream and Gelato

The Magnum store had moved from Vivocity into Custom House Terrace and the good news is that they have extended their stay for another month! Pleasure seekers, what are you waiting for?
Magnum Store

Magnum Store

Customization of Magnum make easy in a few steps.

(1) Head into the Pleasure Store and to the cashier counter

(2) Pay $7 and queue for customization of the magnum classic

(3) Choose your choice of chocolate Coating (Milk / Dark / White Chocolate)

(4) choose 3 toppings (about 18 for selection)
Toppings

Toppings

(5) Choose your favourite chocolate drizzle (Milk / Dark / White Chocolate)

I had my 3 toppings: Chocolate Hearts, Pistachio nuts and gold nuggets. My Customized Magnum is coated in their signature cracking Belgian Chocolate, sprinkled with my choice of toppings.

The decorations on the customized classic stick had marked a stop with a button "M" chocolate

My indulgence with Magnum is perfect. At the first bite off the hardened chocolate coating reveals the classic and pure milky white creamy Magnum. It melts a lot faster than expected. I like my choices of toppings except the gold nuggets as they were too hard and sweet on my teeth.

The video shows the part towards the end of the customization where the Magnum guy drizzle the white chocolate on my customized Ice Cream.

To sum up, I would say it is a good experience to have enjoyed Magnum in a unique way and tailed made based on our preference. Since this is a Pop up store by magnum in celebration of their 25th Anniversary and they will be here till a fix date. Do catch them before its gone!

Ramen Champion Smile Nov 17, 2014
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Ramen

Ramen Champion serves a favourite spot for all Japanese Ramen lovers to enjoy high quality and delighting ramen from cities in Japan.
Ramen Champion

Ramen Champion

Just recently in July, there were 2 more new Ramen restaurants from Japan arrived at Ramen Champion to participate in the next Ultimate ramen champion 2014 Singapore. They were Shodai Koji from Yokohama and Menya Ryu from Hokkaido, each occupying a stall space in Bugis+, competing with other resident ramen restaurants. While Menya Ryu will be seen competing at all 3 Ramen Champion Outlets (Bugis+, T3 Changing Airport, Great World City), Riki Power Ramen has expanded its territory into Bugis+.

Tokyo Riki Ramen by Chef Tetsurou Anzai (Riki)

Rating: 3.5 / 5

Meaningfully name for its "energy boost" with pork bone broth (Tonkotsu soup) boiled daily for at least 8 hours.

Special Power Ramen is packed with a stronger flavor, heavily accentuated with garlic in the white milky broth and topped with a handful of bean sprouts, a dish living up to its name sake.

Wobbly charshu has a springy texture and every bite is full of flavours.

Triple Charshu Ramen by Chef Koji Takano (Shodai Koji)

Rating: 4.5 / 5

Simply love its combination of the modern and traditional style from
Yokohama. Likewise, in order to achieve such flavour bursting effect,
the soup was brought over fire and boiled to more than 8 hours.
Shodai Koji

Shodai Koji

Besides the usual Pork Charshu consisting of pork belly and collar, the chicken thigh is also part of the success of the dish. Double soup from both chicken and pork with 3 different kinds of meat, this dish is highly recommended. Oiishi!

Sapporo Miso Special Ramen by Chef Wang Hu Rong (Menya Ryu)

Rating: 3.5 / 5
Menya Ryu

Menya Ryu

The stark difference among the other two mentioned was the use of Miso. 3 kinds of Miso (red, white and black) are used, maintaining the authentic and traditional flavor in a bowl of Sapporo Ramen not to mentioned about its long hours of broth boiling time too. Where such special ramen is cooked to its perfection, it is no doubt that it's the MUST TRY at Menya Ryu.

Besides having bowls of ramen, Customers get to enjoy a wide spread of Japanese side dishes from the menu.

With squirts of lemon juice over these bite size tempura Gindara Croquette and dipping mayonnaise sauce, its easily for us to pop them non stop into our mouth. Luckily, the number of croquette are fixed on each plate.

Enjoy a bowl of yummy lobster salad drench with roasted sesame sauce.

Out of all ramen tried, we can feel the passion and hard work the chef had put in in order to reach such high standards. Bowls of ramen were indeed appetizing and competitive with each stall revealing the best in them. Not to mention that the timing and seizing of the right temperature whilst cooking of the ramen are critical, especially when it's noodles are of good elasticity and texture.

Penang Kitchen OK Jan 09, 2014

Categories : Malaysian | Noodles

Penang Kitchen, a cafe and market is located among the neighbourhood in Bukit Timah serving food-loving Singaporeans with a authentic taste of Penang fare.
Penang Kitchen

Penang Kitchen

Penang Kitchen is just another place for your penang cuisine fix in a humble environment and with a wide selection of Penang's local cuisine.
Menu

Menu

The dining environment is simple, with about 10 tables. Decorated and filled with Christmas mood, Penang Kitchen also have a rack full of penang goodies where people can grab some Penang goodies like Nutmeg syrup.

The staple and arguably most famous Hawker food in Penang, the Penang laksa. Yeah, the sweet and sour savoury bowl of fish broth that is addictive. The Assam broth was infused with ginger flavour but to me it lacked the "Heh Gor" (prawn paste) and the impact of soury taste was not as strong. Nevertheless, it still pack the pungent, burst full of flavours taste with its basic ingredients.
Penang Asam Laksa 槟城亚参叻沙 - $8.30

A choice of Mee, Bee Hoon or combination. The spiciness in the prawn broth is one of Penang's Prawn mee characteristics and added with slice of pork, ribs, prawns, kanggong, Beansprouts and egg. The soup base was pretty robust and definitely packed a good punch to any average bowl of Singapore Prawn Mee Soup.
Prawn Set - $9.90 (Penang Prawn Noodle Soup 槟城虾面)

Prawn Set - $9.90 (Penang Prawn Noodle Soup 槟城虾面)

Kapitan set was served in claypot and comes with a bowl of rice. The portion of plain rice was rather small for a guy. Anyway, the curry pot was filled with chicken and chunks of softened potatoes meat.

Unlike the usual curry, their's was a combination of spicy and sour taste.

Torn between the appetizers? Choose Penang Sampler. It's value for money and enjoy the best of both world - Combination of Lor Bak and Belacan wings.
Penang Sampler 槟城拼盘 - $13

Penang Sampler 槟城拼盘 - $13

The homemade Penang Loh Bak consist of tender juicy pork wrapped up in beancurd sheet which tasted close to Ngor Hiong. The stark difference was that its fillings were more chunky instead of minced and it went along well with the compliments of sweet brown sauce. While the Belacan Chicken Wing seemed overdone and had its color darker than the usual. They were marinated with Chef's recipe but in terms of Belacan spiciness, it was not intense as we had expected.

Washing down the dinner, I Sea-Coconut Herbal Tea which was very cooling and refreshing. Barley drinks were part of the set meal and were great as well to clear the spice. They were quite sweet and the slices of sea-coconut were quite difficult to reach given that it was buried under the heap of ice in the cup.
Penang Ice Kachang 槟城杂冰 - $4.20

Penang Ice Kachang 槟城杂冰 - $4.20

Last but not least, the Ice Kachang was a reminiscent of good old Penang. It did not have too many fanciful colors of syrup but it was good enough. It's brown sugar syrup tasted like the soft drink "sarsi" and topped with creamy corn kernels. Yum Yum!

Being a non vegetarian, I'm quite keen on Vegetarian Food whenever I heard good comments about a particular vegan eatery. Just like New Green Pasture Cafe, sometimes back they were on the local TV Program. The cafe is located in the famous Fortune Centre, an abode for the vegetarian eater at the 4th level.
New Green Pasture Cafe

New Green Pasture Cafe

As I stepped into the eating joint, it had given me a good ambience with its cosiness and laid-back style. Along the pathway to the cashier/ordering counter, you will get to see many interesting dishes photo pasted on the walls. They offes a range of cuisines, including Chinese, Western, Korean, Thai. What an impressive menu they had, it just make me feel like trying all.
Area

Area

The seatings were rather limited, luckily there was not much people during our visit as we were quite early for dinner. The dining area was simple with a door linking to their store.

Although the foreceiling looked abit run down, the place was tidy and airy. Air was well ventillated by Fans and air-con.

Look at its rack of organic items, enjoy exploring a wide range of nutritious items at the back of the cafe.

I'm quite a herb person and this bowl of Herbal Mee Sua was delicious. The herbal taste had infused the entire bowl which somehow drowned myself into such a wonderful dinner. Herbal Mee Sua was make up of sweet corn cob, mushrooms and vegetables, not forgetting the wolf-berries and herbs.

Another spot on! Orh Lua Mee Sua, the vegetarian way! The bowl of mee sua tasted very close to the non vegetarian. What's more they had it with vinegar and coriander leaves added, enhancing its taste as well as fragrance.

This dish was actually ordered by my friend who freak out upon hearing that we would be having vegetarian for dinner that night. He practises carnivorous eating style but was rather pleased with the bowl of vegan delicacy. Come with thick white bee hoon, with bamboo shoots, Tau Ki, carrots as well as egg. Having tried its broth, I'm rather amazed by its standard.
Hainanese Noodle - $8

The long awaited dish which was served only after we had finished the food. They took a real long time to prepare the delicate roll. The first look at it had won me over as it was beautifully presented. It tasted like curry puff to us just that it was well executed in crepe and rolled up with cucumber slices placed in between the cut portions with the luscious mayo sauce to touch up the dish.
Sri Lankan Roll - $7

Sri Lankan Roll - $7

Look at the curry with the potatoes cubes as well as mock meat. Can you tell the difference if it wasnt from a vegetarian stall? Forget about the long waiting time, this is worth waiting for! The outlook of Sri Lankan Roll looked similar to one of the sushi dishes from Sushi Tei but this is a healthier version , tasty with a little bit of spiciness. What a lovely creation!

Out of so many vegetarian eateries I went to, I find that New Green Pasture is considered very interesting for its range of food order. And with its unpretentious and homely food, it's definitely a place where one can make repeated visits to.

Raffles Marina Smile Dec 06, 2013

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Bars/Lounges

Raffles Marina Bistro, a place that filled me with more and more memories. It is located in Raffles Marina Country Club in Tuas West Drive, just a stone throw away from Tuas Checkpoint. They serves a good spread of food, namely Indian, Western, Local and dessert cuisine.
Menu

Menu

Enjoy the therapeutic marina view of yatch berthing alongside with wooden plank walks with the sunset. Such view in Singapore is rare, the alfresco dining and fantastic view of the harbour and sea especially.

Towards to right, we got a good view long highways bridging Tuas Check Point (2nd Link) and Johor Bahru.

Look at these tables, there were prepared for use of buffets. In fact, Raffles Marina is also quite popular with their Indian Buffet offered during lunch time. Well, their Briyani is one of the best I had tried so far. Do also take note that the buffet is not a daily thing.

Signature Mocktail, a great summer blend using the freshest coconut. Its unique flavor makes it refreshing on its own or paired with a great meal. With the backdrop of the sunset, it had made this summer drink perfect for that moment.
Marina Breeze - $7 each

Marina Breeze - $7 each

An add-on of $1 to the Grilled Halibut fish allowed us to enjoy a serving of soup of the day and ice cream as the dessert. We was presented with Minestrone soup as soup of the day with a wedge from the baguette spreaded by garlic cream, toasted. The soup was full of ingredients and perfect munch with the crispy toast dipped in.

If you think that Ikea Chicken Wings are good, I bet that these are definitely better. These golden crispy brown wings were flavourful, intensively marinated with a good taste deep down to its meat. They were served in a basket on dolly paper with a little parsley stalk by the side.
Chicken Wings (3pcs) - $7.50

Fish and Chips lover, this is your take! Price may seems a little bit steep perhaps but the portion had explained its worthiness. 3 Long fillets given with a bed of fries and its salad by the side. Spread the Tartar sauce on the golden fillet to enjoy the delicious spread of the western cuisine.
Fish & Chips $14

Fish & Chips $14

Woot! Look at the scrumptious golden brown dish in front of your eyes.

The Grilled Halibut was fresh and was delicately done with vegetables (Carrots, potatoes, cucumbers etc) that was creatively cut. The fish was cooked to softness accompanied by portions of pasta sauce, an appetizing dish of the night.
Grilled Halibut Fish Fillet - $23.50

The classy outlook of a scoop of ice cream over the dolly paper and the ice cold glass. This Almond Pistachio Ice Cream by Movenpick was topped with a slice of strawberry was my perfect ending on my dinner.

The skylines were mesmerizing during the blue hours. This is a perfect spot to romance your date and enjoy your meal with sea breeze blowing towards your cheek at intervals.

There was a Surcharge of 15% and tax 7%. The verdict is enjoyable food with waterfront dining at affordable price. Moreover Raffles Marina Bistro is opened to the public and offers the executives from nearby industrial area an hour long lunch escape from the weariness of work. The only letdown was that its service was a little bit lacking.

All in all, I think it's highly recommended place to bring your guests and your date here.
