Great pies! Smile Mar 16, 2011

Food -
Fantastic! We eat there almost every day! The best pie we find, is the Black Pepper Chicken Pie. It's the only pie we have everyday now. The pastry is flaky and perfect. The filling is generous, juicy and very tasty! They have other pies and Crab Bee Hoon but we still like the Black Chicken Pie the best.

Value -
we're used to paying less for pies, but the prices here are pretty fair. It's cheaper than a pub meal and it fills you up at lunch.

Setting and service -
Service is very efficient and very polite. It's in a little shophouse in China Sqaure, so it's convenient and great. Shophouses are so cool and cute! We love the setting. Nice ambience and low-rise buildings. And no long queues!

Recommended!

Food -
We tried the Devil's Chocolate Cake and the Chocolate Confession. The Devil's Chocolate Cake is supposed to have raspberry bits in the cake but we didn't tatse or see any. There is a half raspberry on top of the cake for decoration, and a crispy overly sweet macaron. The Devil's Chocolate Cake is VERY delicious! Very rich and much like a chocolate cheesecake with a soft sponge cake base. It is a very rich cake.

The Chocolate Confession was also super delicious. The ganache was smooth and just sweet enough. Very rich cake. There's supposed to be gold dust on the cake but we couldn't see it with the naked eye. In the photos, if you look close enough you might see the gold dust. The cake has a hazelnut base which complimented the cake very well. It's so addictive and very moreish! Couldn't stop till the end!

The cakes keep well for a day at most in the fridge. It lasts pretty well in room temperature as well. Best served chilled or it gets too soft and melted.

Setting and service - in the CBD, but it wasn't crowded and the service was efficient and polite. Clean, tidy place, just next to the MRT.

Value - expensive if there's no promotion, but good value when there's a promotion!

best green tea latte Smile Nov 18, 2011
Categories : American | Café

So far, this is the best green tea latte I've had in Singapore. Starbucks was overly sweet and sickening and over priced. Spinelli is well balanced and not overly sweet and if you have it with a biscotti, it makes it better! The service is fast, efficient, very polite and courteous! Totally Starbucks.

The seating area is large at this joint and you have lots of choices for seating between indoors and outdoors. They have lots of sandwiches, cakes and cookies as well as biscottis on sale. Very Italian!

I love their green tea latte because it's just creamy enough, just sweet enough and just bitter enough. There's no hint of fakeness and the milk is very fresh. Best of all, it's served in a porcelain mug! This is a nice quiet location and I love this place. Highly recommended!

addictive indian mithai sweets! Smile Nov 16, 2011
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Indian | Desserts and Cakes

This is the only place in Singapore that I can find mithai! There's so many varieties and it changes frequently. Some of the more common ones are usually available. It's very affordable compared to one which you get from restaurants. When I was overseas and craving mithai, I keep planning on when I can come to Singapore to get some!

I don't know all the names of the varieties as there are lots. But the usual suspects like Rasgulla, Jalebi, GulabJamun, Halwa, Peda, Laddu, Rasmalai, etc are my favourites. The colours change constantly, as do the shapes and forms, keeping it very interesting and addictive!

The high sugar content makes it hard to eat a lot at once before you feel sick. There's another stall selling mithai just opposite this stall, if you want something a little bit different. This shops has more varieties and quantities and is next to the main street so you can't miss it.

Highly recommended! Definitely a must-visit when in Little India! I buy truckloads and can't stop eating them when I am there.

love the ramen here! Smile Mar 19, 2011
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Ramen | Kids-Friendly

First of all, there is no ++ charges. It's all net. And Citibank cards get a 10% discount. Yay! We really hate ++ charges.

The service is polite, fast, efficient and accurate. They can't speak very good English but they'll understand you if you point to the menu.

We love their ramen here. Always done nicely and not overpriced. A bowl starts at $10. Spicy, thick and addition of other bits cost extra. Only grip here is that there is NO soft-shell crab! WHY? We always order soft-shell crabs!

Anyway, the soup is so flavourful, and boiled properly. You don't feel sick and you can drink the whole bowl without problems. There doesn't seem to be MSG and it's not too salty and not oily.

The place isn't crowded at all - maybe people haven't realised how good it is yet. It's the best-kept secret in ramen! Much better than most other places, at a lower charge and no ++!

The noodles here are springy and nice. The Char-Su is VERY generous and not overly fatty. The stuff they put in the soup is SO generous! We had the Corn Ramen as well and they were really generous with the toppings! LOVE the fresh veges and seaweed in the soup!

The spicy soup is a little bit hot but it's so moreish you can't stop. It's addicitve. And the thick soup is definitely addictive. The soup in general is addictive!

We love the free flow green tea, which you have to ask for or you won't get. The place is neat and tidy and clean. There is no condiments on the table except for chilli powder - but you won't be needing any condiments anyway because everything is perfectly seasoned and well-balanced.

It's a convenient location and it's great that it's so spacious. No one yells out at your when you walk in - unlike other Japanese places which enjoy yelling "welcome" in Japanese and deafening you.

Definitely recommended place. We hope they NEVER increase their price or drop their quality of food, since these are the 2 reasons why we come here! Low prices for great quality! What more can you ask for? Except for soft-shell crab of course!
