Curry Pork Chop Rice Cry Dec 15, 2013
Categories : Hainanese | Hawker Centre | Curries

During Lunch time, I was at Clementi West Hawker Centre and undecided what to eat. I saw there was a long queue at this Hainanese Curry Rice and decided to join in the queue.

The queue was fast as there was one staff taking order and other staff scoooping the dishes. There was only a few dishes to choose from aside from the deep fried pork chop. I had choose fried egg, fried long bean and fried pork chop. The cost was cheap, only $3.

The curry gravy on top of the rice was different than I thought. The curry did not taste like the curry chicken type, it was more savory and tasted like braised sauce.

The deep fried pork chop was disappointing. There was little meat under the battered skin. The pork meat was also dry like a flatten deep fried burger patty.

Overall, the prices was low but the taste was not great, I wonder why there was such a long queue.

Nasi Lemak Cry Dec 13, 2013
Categories : Malay | Coffeeshop | Seafood

Morning I went to Jurong West for Breakfast and decided to have Nasi Lemak. I saw this Noorlin Seafood was selling Nasi Padang and noodles during Breakfast hours. Hence, I decided to try their Nasi Lemak when I saw there was a constant queue.

The $2.50 nasi lemak came with a fried chicken wing, fried egg and lemak rice, there was no ikan bilis. I wonder why as the photograph printed there was ikan bilis.

The Nasi Lemak chili was sweet, spicyand not water, it was good. However, the fried chicken wing and lemak rice was disappointing.

The lemak rice was soggy and lump together. There was not much of coconut fragrant or taste. The fried chicken wing was slightly dry and rough in the meat. The battered skin was not fragrant.

Overall, there were better Nasi Lemak stalls nearby and cost about the same with ikan bilis included.

Chikuzenni Cry Dec 11, 2013

Categories : Japanese

At Westgate Isetan Basement 2, there were quite a number of Japanese kiosk selling Japanese fare.

I walked pass this Nagomi Deli whereby they sell chilled cooked food. I decided to buy some for afternoon snack. The staff was friendly and she explained what the dishes were. They sell by weight, whereby my order was 200g and it cost $4.80.

The appearance looked nice but the taste was otherwise. The Chikuzenni was not well braised, consider the sauce given was quite sweet and salty with a hint of mirin.

The chicken thigh meat was hard and rough, I though it was breast meat. The lotus root and other vegetables tasted quite mild in braised sauce.

Anpan Cry Dec 10, 2013

There was a famous Japanese Bakery opened at Westgate. Hence, when it first opened, I went to buy some of their breads. the Bakery was crowded on the opening day and there was samples of bread given by the friendly staffs.

I bought the Anpan which was a bun with Japanese style cooked red bean at $2. Although most of the other customers bought the Sesame Camembert.

The Anpan looked shiny and yummy on the outside. However, the taste was otherwise. The inside texture of the bun bread was quite rough and dry.

The red bean paste tasted average, not too mushy or powdery. It was also not too sweet.

Overall, I would still prefer the Anpan from Four Leaves which was also much cheaper.

Ayam Penyet Cry Nov 10, 2013
Categories : Indonesian

There was a Ayam Penyet Restaurant at Jurong Point basement that was always full house during meal times. Hence I drcided to have a try of their famous ayam penyet.

The ayam penyet included a very, very spicy chili. But I did not like the taste of raw chili.

The ayam penyet was actually a flatten fried drumstick. The battered skin taste quite good like those fried chicken fastfood.

However, the chicken meat was quite over cooked and dry. The bones were also smashed with the chicken meat made eating a bit more troublesome.
