Snow Chocolate Bun Smile Dec 28, 2014

There was a Japanese Bakery in JCube, it was located at a corner away from walking crowd. Initally I thought this Japanese Bakery was selling only Japanese Pastry, but they also had local flavour pastry.

The Snow Chocolate Bun attracted my attention. The swirl looking sugary top looked cute. Hence, I bought one at $1.20.

The Snow Chocolate Bun had a sweet smelling aroma, I guessed should be the sugary top. The bun was slightly stiff in texture, not so fluffy. The filling inside was chocolate flavoured custard. The cocoa was over powering the custard filling, it was like eating Royce chocolate which I loved it.

Overall, this Snow Chocolate Bun was tasty especially the chocolate custard filling inside was so good to munch.

Spending per head: Approximately $1.20(Tea)

Glass Jelly Drink Smile Dec 28, 2014

There was a new drink stall at walkway to Bugis Downtown Line MRT. This stall was opened by Lao Ban Beancurd according to their signboard. I just bought a glass jelly drink to quech my thrist.

I thought this was just a normal local glass jelly drink but I was wrong after drink it. The glass jelly drink tasted quite herbal, similar to taiwanese style glass jelly. The glass jelly was not in agar agar texture but was more chewy type like those taiwanese style glass jelly. The drink was sweeter than expected, this stall did not have the choice of chooing the sugar level.

Overall, I find this glass jelly drink unique and it tasted good, the price was also similar to Mr Bean local glass jelly drink.

Spending per head: Approximately $1.50(Tea)

Ban Mian Smile Dec 28, 2014

Finally Qiu Lian Ban Mian had opened a branch in the West after so many years. But the menu seem to be slightly different, this branch did not sell dry version of Ban Mian.

Nevertheless I ordered the normal Soup You Mian with minced meat at $4.50. I saw in the kitchen that the You Mian was freshly came out from the noodle machine when I ordered.

The Soup You Mian came steaming hot, the soup was too hot to eat immediately. I had to wait a few minutes to cool down before eating.

I always like Qiu Lian Ban Mian soup base. However, this branch was slightly lighter in overall taste, not as meaty sweet. Maybe I was too early in the morning, the soup broth was still cooking.

The You Mian was good. It has a slightly springy texture and there was no floury taste. I liked the minced meat ball, it was marinated with seasoning and spices. I could tasted the crushed dried fish in the minced meat ball.

I did not notice the menu board stated that adding extra ikan bilis need to pay 50 cents. I told the stall lady that I wanted more ikan bilis, luckily she did not charge me extra for it.

Overall, this Ban Mian stall has very good Ban Mian, however I felt that the prices were slightly higher than other stalls in the vincity.

Spending per head: Approximately $4.50(Lunch)

Chwee Kueh Smile Dec 27, 2014

Categories : Hawker Centre

The signboard of this stall put as Tiong Bahru Chwee Kueh, I was not sure was it the authentic Tiong Bahru Hawker Centre one. The prices were not expensive, it was 8 pieces for $2.40.

The Chwee Kueh looked similar to Tiong Bahru ones with dark brown "Cai Poh" with sesame seeds and firm chwee kueh. It was also not oily.

The "Cai Poh" was well cooked and tasted very good, not too salty with mild sweetness, similar to Tiong Bahru ones. The toasted sesame brought out a nice fragrance from the "Cai Poh". The chwee kueh was well cooked, firm and slight springy.

Overall, I liked this Chwee Kueh and I need not travel all the way to Tiong Bahru to enjoy the same good taste.

Spending per head: Approximately $2.40(Breakfast)

Roasted Duck Rice Smile Dec 27, 2014

Categories : Thai | Steamboat/Hot Pot

I always thought that MK Restaurant only sells Steamboat until I walked pass one weekend Lunch and say MK Restaurant also selling Set Lunch at affordable prices. I ordered the Roasted Duck Set at $6.99.

The presentation of the Roasted Duck Rice was grand, with separate bowl of gravy. The Roasted Duck smelt good with charred skin aroma. The duck skin was crispy but not fatty while duck meat was tender and moist.

I liked the special gravy for the roasted duck. The gravy was not the same as local roasted duck stalls. The special gravy was not thicken with cornstarch. It had a fermented bean taste and mild salty with a hint of lime skin.

The staff in this restaurant was friendly and attentive, when I had used up all the gravy, the staff came over to refill the gravy.

Overall, I liked the Roast Duck from MK Restaurant, the Roasted Duck meat had the same good taste despite being leaner in the meat.

Spending per head: Approximately $6.99(Lunch)
