Big Pork Bun Smile Dec 26, 2014

Before going to Johor Bahru, I was hungry and luckily there was a big Kopitiam foodcourt in the Kranji Mrt. The first stall I noticed was the Kung Fu JB Pau, I wonder how was it like as compared to JB ones.

I bought the Big Pork Bun at $3.60. The price of this bun was not cheap, but using the Kopitiam Card there was further 10% discount.

The Big Pork Bun was really big, bigger than my fist. The bun texture was soft, though not as fluffy as JB ones. The fillings of minced pork meat was piping hot and oozing with hot pork juice when I teared open the bun. There was a nice fatty, marinated meat aroma. There was also a quarter egg in the bun.

The Big Pork Bun tasted good, the minced meat was fatty and tender, there was also some crispy chestnut in the minced meat that gave a refreshing taste.

Spending per head: Approximately $3.60(Tea)

Mango Mousse Cake Smile Dec 26, 2014

I had bought a Mango Mousse Cake from Jack's Place bakery counter to celebrate Christmas. I know I should have bought a log cake but I did not order in advance and it was all soldout. This Mango Mousse Cake cost $42 for 1kg size.

The Mango Mousse Cake tasted very good. The cake was fresh, moist and fluffy. The mousse testure was similar to the cake texture, I was not able to differentiate between the sponge cake or the mousse. The mango used was fresh, creamy and sweet, it tasted good.

Overall, thought the cake was slightly pricey, I think I had made the right choice of buying a Mango Mousse Cake than a Chocolate log cake. The fruit cake tasted delicious and more healthy than chocolate swiss roll.

Spending per head: Approximately $42

Yong Tau Foo Smile Dec 26, 2014

I was walking along Katong and found that most of the cafe sells western food. I wanted to have local food during Lunch, hence I walked to Katong Shopping Centre basement foodcourt.

The varieties of yong tau foo in this stall was many until they need to put out another table for customers to choose the ingredients. I chosen 10 items and it cost $5.

The fried Yong Tau Foo items were deep fried, piping hot and crispy after cooked, unlike other stalls that drenched into water to cook.

I find the dark sweet sauce was more salty than sweet, I should have put lesser into the Yong Tau Foo dish.

There was a small bowl a soup given for ordering dry version. The soup tasted of soya bean and sweet meat broth.

Overall, the Yong Tau Foo was good due to the freshly deep fried items.

Spending per head: Approximately $5(Lunch)

Matcha & Aruki  Smile Dec 26, 2014

There was a long queue of customers at the Tai Parfait. I wonder what was so good, hence I joined in the queue.

I ordered the Matcha & Aruki at $5.50. The wait for the order was slightly long as the pastry was freshly grilled when ordered.

The Matcha & Aruki was very cold when eaten from the top. There was thick flavoured matcha ice cream on top. The bottom part was piping hot, nearly burnt my tongue. the filling was very sweet hokkaido red bean paste. The crust of the pastry was very crispy and tasted very light.

Overall, the Matcha & Aruki tasted very good. But the pricing was very high consider it was just a red bean pastry with little ice cream.

Spending per head: Approximately $5.50(Tea)

Char Siew Bun Smile Dec 26, 2014

There was a Hong Kong Dim Sum kiosk in Westgate basement food hall that I always wanted to try.

I bought their steamed Char Siew Bun, 6 for $5 or $1 each. The Char Siew Bun size was quite small. The Char Siew Buns are freshly steamed when ordered, hence need to wait about 5 minutes.

The Char Siew Bun had a very fluffy skin, though when eaten the skin will lump into a dough. The filling was char siew with oyster sauce. It tasted good with the right amount of fatty meat and roasted lean meat.

Overall, the Char Siew Buns tasted good and affordable prices.

Spending per head: Approximately $1(Tea)
