Bak Chor Mee Pok  Smile Dec 26, 2014

This Bak Chor Mee stall was featured in Channel 8 “Just Noodles 面对面”. Hence, there was a long queue during Lunch time. The queue time was about 20 minutes.

Initally I wanted to order their famous curry noodle, but when it was my turn to order, they had just soldout, hence I ordered the Bak Chor Mee Pok.

At $3, the Bak Chor Mee Pok had generous portion of meat and pork liver. I had noticed that this Bak Chor Mee stall used button mushroom instead of Shitake mushroom.

This Bak Chor Mee tasted good. The mee pok was springy and cooked just right. There was right amount of pok lard oil in the mee pok that made it silky smooth when eating. The minced meat tasted soft and tender, I guessed that they had marinated the meat before.

Spending per head: Approximately $3(Lunch)

I was attending an event at Safra Tampines and during Lunch there was not much restaurant option there, hence I went to Mind's Cafe. The decor of this cafe was cosy like a living room with sofas and board games.

The menu of Mind's Cafe was extensive. I ordered the Teriyaki Chicken Focaccia Sandwich at $7.90. The wait for the meal order was quite long, about 15 minutes. I guessed they freshly prepared the meal when ordered.

The Teriyaki Chicken Focaccia Sandwich portion was average but the filling was big. The Teriyaki chicken meat was as big as a chicken chop meat. The bread tasted slightly rough and powdery. The Teriyaki chicken tasted good, nicely grilled, very tender and juicy. I should have order their grilled chicken chop instead.

Overall, the Teriyaki Chicken Focaccia Sandwich was good and the price was reasonable at this location.

Spending per head: Approximately $7.90(Lunch)

Lor Mee Smile Dec 26, 2014

I was surprised when I reached Bedok Hawker Centre in the morning, there was not much people queueing at this famous Lor Mee stall. Hence, I joined in the queue and ordered Lor Mee. The Lor Mee cost $3.

The Lor Mee had a nice aroma of black vinegar. The bowl of Lor Mee portion looked small despite paying $3. The Lor Mee gravy tasted good with herbal and braised broth, it was slightly more to the sweet side than savoury.

The braised meat was good, it was fatty and well braised, almost melted in the mouth when eaten.

Overall, the Lor Mee was good but the portion seems to be small at this price.

Lechon Meal Smile Dec 26, 2014

I always wanted to try Filipino food especially their Lechon but their stalls are always out of way. Finally, there was a branch of famous LechonSG opened at the Clementi Central.

From the menu, there was Lechon Meal and BBQ Pork, I was unsure which one to order as they looked similar. The friendly stall holder recommended the Lechon Meal which cost $5. The roasted pork meat was freshly cut out when ordered.

The Lechon Meal smelt very nice, there was this roasted suckling pig aroma. The skin of the pork was very crispy like suckling pig, however there was a sourish vinegar taste, I guessed was the marinate. The fatty pork meat was heavenly, it melts in your mouth. It was so tender and soft.

The brown sauce given tasted similar to chinese plum sauce. When the roasted pork dipped into the brown sauce, it tasted so good.

Overall, this Lechon Meal tasted very good, though I find that the prices were slightly high as compared to local roasted meat rice.

Spending per head: Approximately $5.00

Wanton Noodle with Pork Ribs Smile Dec 26, 2014

There was a new Wanton Mee stall in Yuhua Hawker Centre. The stall signboard had the name similar to the famous Bukit Batok one, I was unsure whether they were under the same boss.

Nevertheless, I ordered the Set A which was the Wanton Mee with Pork Ribs at $4. The stall lady asked whether I wanted a white or black noodle. I was confused what was the different between colours. The stall lady said it was just the sauce, hence I ordered the black version.

The wait for the Wanton Mee with Pork Ribs was slightly longer about more than 5 minutes as the wanton was freshly deep fried when ordered.

The Wanton Mee with Pork Ribs looked good and the portion was large. The mee kia was springy and tasted liked Kolo Mee. The sauce on the mee kia was just braised sauce. The deep fried wanton was very good, crispy on the outside and meaty inside. There was also chestnut and spring onions in the wanton meat. The braised pork rib was good, tender and meat easily separated from the bone, the herbal sauce braised deep into the meat.

Overall, this Wanton Mee with Pork Ribs was very good, better than the Fei Fei Wanton Mee in the same hawker centre.

Spending per head: Approximately $4.00(Lunch)
