Chicken & Chee Cheong Fun OK Dec 29, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Hainanese | Restaurant | Chicken Rice

My family likes to eat Boon Tong Kee's chicken rice. Hence, I went to the main branch to buy takeaway chicken meat with Chee Cheong Fun.

I find that their chicken meat was not as tender and juicy,  the skin was not as silky smooth as compared to ten years ago. Nevertheless the chicken meat was still meaty and fatty.

I always liked their Chee Cheong Fun. The Chee Cheong Fun was similar to the famous Chinatown Hawker Centre's stall, smooth and slippery in the mouthfeel. There was a lot of toasted sesame seeds and shallot oil added, the aroma of Chee Cheong Fun was heavenly. It would be best if they opened for breakfast selling this item and some kopi.

Spending per head: Approximately $20(Dinner)

Chendol Frosty Smile Dec 29, 2014

There was a new menu item on Wendy's menu. It was Chendol, a local dessert. I wonder how was it tasted like in an American Fastfood.

The Chendol Frosty was reasonably priced at $2. This Chendol was slightly different, it was made with ice cream instead of crushed ice.

The Chendol Frosty was very similar to local Chendol. There was a rich gula melaka aroma and taste in the ice cream. The grass jelly and green bean jelly compliments the Chendol well.

Overall, this Chendol Frosty tasted good, it reminded me of 7-eleven Chendol Ice Cream.

Spending per head: Approximately $2(Tea)

Grilled Chicken Chop Smile Dec 28, 2014

After having breakfast at the hawker centre, I went over to the kopitiam to have lunch. The grilling meat aroma attracted me to this Golden Rooster Western Food stall. I ordered the Grilled Chicken Chop at $6. The ventilation at this kopitiam was very bad. While I was waiting for my Chicken Chop, the heat trapped in the kopitiam felt like a sauna, I was sweating all over.

The Grilled Chicken Chop was delivered to my table piping hot, smelling of grilled meat. I liked the chicken skin was crispy and savoury, very tasty. The meat was tender but was slightly bland in taste. The sauce on the Chicken Chop was  tasty similar to teriyaki sauce.

The coleslaw was delicious. I liked the creamy sauce and crunchy vegetables.

Overall, this Chicken Chop was delicious but dining there was sweltering.

Spending per head: Approximately $6(Lunch)

Mee Rebus OK Dec 28, 2014

I was at Bedok Hawker Centre earlyin the morning wanting to try the famous Selera Kita $1.20 Mee Rebus, but to my disappointment, the stall was closed. There was another stall just next to Selera Kita selling Mee Rebus and their selling price, $1.50!

The queue for the mee rebus was quite fast, about 10 minutes I could get my order already. At $1.50 price, I could not ask for more, there was half egg, some fried beancurd and shallots. The mee rebus was piping hot, the gravy was watery and smell of sweet potato.

The mee rebus tasted like my primary school's canteen mee rebus. The gravy taste was like mashed sweet potato with curry powder and mild spicy.

Overall, the mee rebus was average. I was not so such why this stall attract such a long queue. I guess maybe the price was the pulling factor.

Spending per head: Approximately $1.50(Breakfast)

Curry Bun Smile Dec 28, 2014

Categories : Japanese | Bakery

I was coming out of Expo MRT and I saw a small bakery at the entrance. The aroma of baking bread attracted me to go in have a look. The bakery was very small, I was not sure how they managed to squeeze the whole kitchen inside the store. Inside the bakery was also slightly warm. The buns was order from the counter. I bought the Curry Bun at $1.20.

The Curry Bun was still hot when I bought it. Hence, the outer layer of the bun was slightly crispy, I loved the crispy texture, seldom I bought the cold baked buns elsewhere had this texture. The bun was slightly sweet in taste.

The bread was slightly stiff and there was generous filling of curry potato. The curry potato was slightly spicy and mild curry powder aroma, I hope the curry can be more spicy.

Overall, this Curry Bun was good tasting because I bought fresh from the oven.
