Signature Dynasty Xiao Long Bao OK Dec 27, 2014

This Paradise Dynasty at Westgate always had a long queue during dinner hours. Since the queue was shorter today, I decided to have a meal there.

I ordered their Signature Dynasty Xiao Long Bao, it cost $14.80. The wait for the order was quite fast, I guessed they had already pre-made the difference Xiao Long Bao in advance.

The Signature Dynasty Xiao Long Bao came piping hot, they have a instruction paper showing which flavour of Xiao Long Bao to eat first. When I bite the Xiao Long Bao, hot meat juice splash out, almost burnt my tongue.

The Signature Dynasty Xiao Long Bao had a slightly thick and floury skin. The minced meat inside was not as tender even though there was a lot of meat juice inside.

I found that some of the flavours did not taste good and quite dry, such as Foie Gras and Cheese flavour. Some flavours tasted plasticky such as Black Truffle and Garlic. The best tasting was still the orginal flavour.

Overall, I would prefer to order the orginal Xiao Long Bao the next time I dine at this restaurant.

Spending per head: Approximately $14.80(Dinner)

Roasted Duck Rice Smile Dec 27, 2014

I always thought that MK Restaurant only sells Steamboat until I walked pass one weekend Lunch and say MK Restaurant also selling Set Lunch at affordable prices. I ordered the Roasted Duck Set at $6.99.

The presentation of the Roasted Duck Rice was grand, with separate bowl of gravy. The Roasted Duck smelt good with charred skin aroma. The duck skin was crispy but not fatty while duck meat was tender and moist.

I liked the special gravy for the roasted duck. The gravy was not the same as local roasted duck stalls. The special gravy was not thicken with cornstarch. It had a fermented bean taste and mild salty with a hint of lime skin.

The staff in this restaurant was friendly and attentive, when I had used up all the gravy, the staff came over to refill the gravy.

Overall, I liked the Roast Duck from MK Restaurant, the Roasted Duck meat had the same good taste despite being leaner in the meat.

Spending per head: Approximately $6.99(Lunch)

Ecuador Sweet Smile Dec 27, 2014

I always have a urge to buy Royce Nama Chocolate and always eaten the whole box of chocolate by myself in a day. But I must refrain myself unless there was a new flavour.

Today, I walk passed the Royce Chocolate store and noticed something different in the chilled fridge. The redish brown package printed Ecuador Sweet flavour. Hence, I bought one box to have a try.

When I opened the box of chocolate, it looked and smelt similar to the Au Lait flavour. The taste of the Ecuador Sweet was really similar to Au Lait flavour without the alcohol. There was the same soft, milk chocolate taste with mild cocoa flavour.

Since the Au Lait and the Ecuador Sweet were similar in pricing, I would still choose the Au Lait flavour as the taste got the mild alcohol.

Spending per head: Approximately $15(Tea)

Half Baked OK Dec 27, 2014

Categories : Ice Cream and Gelato

The weather was hot and humid, hence when I walked pass the Ben & Jerry Store, I had the urge to have a cold dessert. I always like Ben & Jerry's because they always have very unique flavours. I ordered the single scoop cup and chose Half Baked flavour.

The Half Baked ice cream was quite hard in texture as compared to other ice cream. According to the menu, Half baked was chocolate and vanilla ice creams with fudge brownies and chocolate chip cookie dough. I could hardly find or taste the brownies or cookie dough in the ice cream, maybe they were all finely blend into the ice cream. While eating the ice cream, the chunks of chocolate chips was not only visble but also hard to bite.

Overall, I find that this Half Baked flavour was not as tasty as other flavour. Next time, I would choose a  flavour with lesser chocolate chips.

Spending per head: Approximately $5(Tea)

Cze Cha Smile Dec 26, 2014

Categories : Hawker Centre | Seafood | Steamboat/Hot Pot

My family decided to have Cze Cha at this Ah Pang Seafood Steamboat at Mei Chin Hawker Centre. But a funny thing was that we need to make reservation if we want to order Cze Cha dishes as they normally only sell steamboat.

We ordered Deep Fried Grouper, Claypot Tofu, Pepper Pork Chop and Three Cup Chicken.

The deep fried grouper was very fresh, the meat was smooth and tender. However, I felt that there was no sauce to go with the deep fried fish.

The claypot tofu was good, though it was not served in the claypot. The sauce had a "Wok Hei" and the tofu was slight crispy on the outside and silky tofu in the inside.

The pepper pork chop was average in taste. It was slightly dry and tough. I thought they should have use thicker meat so that inside will be more juicy.

The three cup chicken was good. There was "Wok Hei" and alcohol aroma from the claypot. The chicken meat was tender and juicy, there was also mild alcohol taste from the savoury oyster sauce.

Overall, the Cze Cha was good tasting with "Wok Hei" in many of thier dishes. The prices were also reasonable.

Spending per head: Approximately $50(Dinner)
