Mutton Chop Cry Dec 25, 2014

I always wanted to try Indian version of Western Food and I went to this popular Roti Prata stall opposite Bukit Batok MRT. It was mid afternoon and inside the eatery was very warm and stuffy, despite they switch on air cooler.

There was Mutton Steak and Mutton Chop on the menu board. The stall uncle told me that Mutton Chop was the one with french fries. The price was $6, similar to hawker centre's Western Food stall.

The Mutton Chop was delivered to my table after about 15 minutes. The amount of french fries in this dish was alot, more than double the amount of mutton meat.  The mutton meat looked spicy with red chilli paste sauce.

The mutton meat tasted quite bland, tough and dry without the spicy chili sauce. It seem like the mutton meat was from the Kambing soup, cut in cube form.

The french fries was slightly over-fried, too crispy for mine liking.

Overall, I still prefer the Mutton Chop from the hawker centres.

Spending per head: Approximately $6(Lunch)

Fried Carrot Cake Cry Dec 25, 2014
Categories : Thai | Stall / Kiosk | Noodles

There were a lot of new food establishments when I transit at Woodlands MRT. There was a stall at the far end that attracted my attention with their cheap pricing of local food.

The stall was called "Khun Thai". I was not sure why they named it "Khun Thai" as they did not sell any Thai food.

I ordered this Black Carrot Cake which cost $2.20. The Black Carrot Cake was freshly fried when ordered, hence I need to wait for about 10 minutes, eventhough there was minimum queue. The Black Carrot Cake serving portion was large consider the selling price.

The taste was quite disappointing. Although there was mild aroma of "wok hei" and the appearance looked moist, the Black Carrot Cake tasted dry and powdery. There was not enough "Cai Poh" and black sweet soya sauce.

Overall, I would prefer to dine in other food establishment if I went to Woodlands MRT again.

Spending per head: Approximately $2.20(Lunch)

Blueberry Yogurt Cry Dec 24, 2014
Categories : Frozen Yogurt

The weather was very warm in the evening time. Hence, I went to look for some Ice Cream. I chanced upon the Yami Yogurt and decided to order their Frozen Yogurt.

I ordered a large Blueberry Flavour Frozen Yogurt which was $5.90. The staff was friendly and service was fast. I was slightly disappointed as the serving was not quite big for a large cup.

The Blueberry Flavour tasted quite mild, I could not tasted the blueberry flavour. All I could see was the light purple colour and tasted mild sourish on the yogurt. The frozen yogurt was quite hard in texture, harder than McDonald's soft served ice cream. I should have order the orginal flavour and add real fruit toppings instead.

During Lunch time at Jurong East, every restaurant or food court was fully packed. I chanced upon Jack's Place on Level 4 of Jem which was not as crowded. There was a daily special promotion set Lunch menu at $14.90 which included soup, drink and dessert.

Service was fast and friendly. The staff ensured that each customer was well taken care of. Though I must say the lighting of the restaurant was dim.

I had ordered the Sirlion Steak with Pesto Brown Sauce. The dish came unexpectedly with rice. I thought this Lunch Set was just Steak and Fries.

The rice was not plain rice, it was fried rice with buttery fragrance. The rice tasted slightly soggy and oily.

The Sirlion Steak was slgihtly disappointing. I had ordered medium cooked, but it tasted more like well done. The meat was chewy and non-tender, sometimes I was unable to chew. The meat tasted bland if there was no sauce. I had to dipped the meat into the savory sauce.

Benoîton Canberry Cry Dec 25, 2013
Categories : French | Bakery | Café | High Tea

I always wanted to try Paul Bakery, but their branches are quite faraway. Now they had opened a branch at Westgate, I decided to buy one of their bread to try.

The staffs were new, hence the service was slower. There were only two customers ahead in the queue at the bakery counter, but I waited for more than 10 minutes to call for my order.

I bought the Benoîton Canberry at $2.30. Benoîton Canberry was a breadstick with cranberry.

The Benoîton Canberry was really hard to chew, I was not sure how the French ate this bread. The Benoîton dough was very stiff and almost airless. However from the hard dough, I could taste the sweetness of the dry cranberry fruits.

Overall, I still prefer to eat fluffy bread from local bakery.
