Mushroom Chicken Bun Smile Dec 24, 2014

Another bakery stall had opened in Clementi. This one is self-serviced pick up the bread, unlike Baker's Talent or Roti Bakery where you order from the counter.

The buns here cost more than others in Clementi, maybe they have a larger shop front.

I bought a Mushroom Chicken Bun at $1.50. The appearance of the bread looked unique, with a layer of popiah skin like on top of the bread.

The Mushroom Chicken Bun was a wholemeal bread that had a rough texture, but was  fluffy when eaten. There was generous fillings of mushroom and chicken meat in side. The fillings tasted  slight peppery and savoury, liked stir fried chicken meat with button mushroom and cream.

Overall, the Mushroom Chicken Bun tasted good and healthy though the prices were higher than other bakeries in its vicinity.

Spending per head: Approximately $1.50(Tea)

Fried Carrot Cake Smile Dec 24, 2014

While I was looking for food in Chong Pang market, I saw a stall selling fried carrot cake with steady queues. Hence, I decided to have a try.

I ordered the Fried White Carrot Cake at $3. The wait was not long, about 10 minutes, the carrot cake delivered to my table piping hot.

The appearance of the carrot cake looked good, with nice fried golden brown on the outside. There was a nice aroma of fried lard and "wok hei".

The carrot cake tasted very good, crispy on the outside, moist and soft in the inside. The carrot cake did not have a floury taste, it has mild white radish taste with savoury fish sauce.

King Dog BBQ Smile Dec 23, 2014

Burger King recently introduced a number of affordable menus, including breakfast. I ordered a King Dog BBQ which cost only $2! Better than other fastfood burgers.

The service was fast, I could get my King Dog BBQ within a few minutes of ordering.

The decor of recent Burger King seems to go into dim lighting, which I felt that eating in dim lights was a bit irritating as you cannot see your food clearly.

The King Dog BBQ was piping hot and looked big. It was about 1.5 times size of Ikea Hotdog bun. There was generous serving of mayo and BBQ sauce. The BBQ sauce was the same sauce in the Turkey bacon Burger.

The King Dog BBQ tasted good. The bun was hot and fluffy. The hot dog tasted juicy and meaty, not those floury taste like IKEA ones.

Nasi Lemak Smile Dec 23, 2014

I had lived so long in Yuhua Estate and I did not realise there was a Cafe in Yuhua Community Club selling affordable and delicious local fare. The Cafe looked like a canteen style, service was no frills, self service.

During Lunch time, it was crowded with local residents. Luckily, I had managed to order the last set of nasi lemak. The cost of Nasi Lemak after adding the Achar was $3.

The sambal chilli was good, sweet and spicy with a hint of belachan. The rice was good, not too dry or soggy, just right with coconut fragrant.

The fried chicken wing was average, crispy on the outside and juciy in the inside, but was a bit too small.

The achar was good, the vegetables were crispy, there was mild sourish and chilli taste.

Chirashi Set with Grilled Prawns Smile Dec 17, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Ramen

My friend wanted to have Japanese food, so we decided to dine in at Tonkichi. It was quite a long time I last dined at Tonkichi, I did not know they also sell Sashimi, I thought they only sell Tonkatsu set.

I decided to order the Chirashi Set with Grilled Prawns. When the order came, I was very pleasing to see such a nice placement of food.

The Chirashi had much more rice than the fish and shrimp roe given. Both fish and shrimp roe tasted fresh, slightly salty and burst of water in mouth when biting it. The Sashimi was also fresh and chilled, the tuna and the salmon meat was firm and soft to chew on while the raw prawn was slightly crunchy and sweet.

The grilled prawns had a nice aroma of BBQ, however the prawn had little meat, but nevertheless the meat tasted fresh and not powdery or mashy.

Overall, Tonkichi not only made good Japanese Pork Cultlet but also good in Sashimi dishes.

Recommended Dish(es):  Sashimi, Japanese Pork Cutlet
