This Mr Bean outlet has just shifted a couple of units away from its original place. The store is now much bigger and definitely has better ventilation than before. They are currently having a re-opening special till 31st August. The soya ice-cream cone is selling at $1.30 instead of the usual $1.60. The usual price of the 3-in-1 riceballs (peanut/ black sesame) is $2.40 and it is now $2. I got the 3-in-1 riceballs. If you’re wondering, 3-in-1 refers to the product as having soya bean milk, beancurd and riceballs. You can opt for a mix of the 2 riceball flavours, which is what I did. I like the soya bean drink as I didn’t find it too sweet. The texture of the riceballs was soft and chewy. I prefer the peanut filling to the black sesame one as it had a nice crunch to it. I highly recommend Mr Bean for good quality soy products. Drop by soon to enjoy the limited time re-opening special!

This nasi padang store is conveniently located in a coffeeshop under a block of flats. This coffeeshop also houses a yummy chicken rice stall, a noodles stall and a mixed rice stall, just to name a few.

It was about 12noon when I got there and there was a queue of about 4-5 people during at that time. The queue moves quickly though as there were 3 people working. I got the rice with long beans, fish, beef rendang and prawns ($8.90). $8.90 for the portion of food that I got was not bad. Prawns that were soaked in chili were succulent and crunchy. It was also already deshelled and you just have to bite the tail part off. The fish was soft, fresh and did not have a fishy taste to it. Beef rendang and long beans were alright.

I will definitely patronize this stall again! The aunties and uncles working there were really friendly and there is a huge variety of food to choose from.

Chicken briyani Smile Aug 17, 2013

On a Saturday afternoon, this place wasn't crowded but it had a steady stream of customers. I ordered the Chicken Nasi Briyani ($5.80). It came with a huge drumstick! Meat was a little hard to tear but it was alright. I like the a-char as it gave a refreshing and soothing break to the spiciness. The papadum was crunchy and went really well with the chili. $5.80 for a plate of briyani is a little pricy but I would say it is worth it for the huge drumstick that you get.

Bangkok Jam OK Aug 16, 2013

This is the Yang Ruam (Bangkok Mixed Grill) for $23. It is a combination of grilled squid, prawns, chicken and beef. This dish was too charred for my liking. The prawn shells were so blackened and the beef was rather hard. Chicken and squid were ok but for $23, I'd expect better quality food.

We also had the Phad Thai Talay (Seafood Phad Thai) for $11.90. Compared to Siam Kitchen/ ThaiExpress, this was a little pricier. This dish came with extra sugar, chili flakes and peanuts for you to mix in with the noodles. I found the noodles too sticky for my liking. Seafood were ok.

Lastly, we had the Pak Bung Fai Daeng (Kang Kong with Sambal), $9. The portion of this dish is huge! There were also a lot of chopped garlic which gave the kang kong an extra kick.

Service at this place was not bad but I don't think the food was great.

Wee Nam Kee has been around for ages now so you can always count on them to deliver awesome chicken rice. We ordered the half chicken ($16), with a mix of steamed and roasted chicken. We got the drumstick part for the roasted chicken! The proportion of steamed and roasted chicken were not very equal. There was more steamed chicken than roasted ones. However, as usual, the meat was tender and juicy. I find that the ginger and chili are one of the best that I've tried. We arrived around 7pm and got a table promptly as we were willing to split tables with other people. Wonderful chicken rice!
