Yummy wings Smile Aug 15, 2013

This place is a hidden gem as it is located in a building called Ming Arcade which looks rather old. Happy hour lasts all night with a jug of San Miguel for $12. Chicken wings come in half dozen or a dozen ($20). We ordered a dozen wings, which is essentially 24 pieces as they split the mini drumstick part and the midjoint part. It comes with a chili dip which resembles chicken rice chili. Very good chicken wings! It is super crispy and juicy. Sometimes you have to wait up to 45 mins to get your wings! Highly recommended as it serves one of the cheapest beers in the entire Orchard area.

Not bad Smile Aug 15, 2013

Kimly Seafood is located in one of the coffeeshops under a block of HDB flats. It is very convenient as the multi-storey carpark has a flight of stairs that leads directly to this coffeeshop. A zi char stall with good patronage, the coffeeshop was crowded with people eating the food from this stall. We had 2 dishes, the Salted Egg Deep-Fried Chicken Balls ($14) and the Stir-fried Sliced Fish with Ginger and Spring Onions ($9).

This dish was nicely deep-fried and had a generous amount of salted egg dressing. The dressing was creamy and had a nice golden-yellow consistency to it which isn’t captured in this picture. I like the dressing but the chicken was disappointing. There were a lot of fried chicken skin and for $14, it wasn’t worth it. Would like to see more chicken chunks in this dish. It’s a fun dish to order though as a snack.

The fish dish was loaded with tons of ginger, onions and spring onions. The fish slices were soft and smooth even though they were a little too thinly-sliced. No complaints about this dish—it is your typical zi char stir-fried dish.

When we went there on Wednesday night, the coffeeshop was packed with patrons. Some people even had to wait for tables, which is quite rare considering this place is pretty hidden. It has a good variety of stalls though, chicken rice, fishball noodles, BBQ and western food to name a few. There is even a dim sum stall at the corner. Service at Kimly is not too bad. Servers could recommend dishes when needed and they were courteous and polite. Would come here again for zi char food and possibly to try out the other stalls.

Stingray Smile Aug 15, 2013

The portion of this BBQ Stingray for $6 is quite little. It only consists of 2 thin slabs of fish meat. Nevertheless, I like the sambal sauce for its tangy ketchup taste and its sweet and spicy aftertaste. The BBQ stingray is slightly crispy on the outside and really soft on the inside. The sauce goes perfectly with plain rice or noodles after you finish all the meat. Other sizes of this dish include $8, $10 and $12. $6 is suitable for one person if you’re having other dishes as well.

Beef hor fun Smile Jul 30, 2013   (Related Review)

Took away the Beef Hor Fun ($10.80) for dinner the other day. I like this hor fun! It wasn't too oily or too greasy. There were enough scallions and spring onions to balance out the beefy taste that was infused in the hor fun. The hor fun was not clumpy so it was easy to consume. Furthermore, the staff was very generous with the amount of green chili that I could take away. She even offered to pack more for me upon request. Very helpful! This friendly service made my meal even more enjoyable.

This is the Special Thai Deep-fried Otah ($7.90 for 7 pieces). I did not like this dish. I found it to be too sweet especially since it was coated with coconut milk (the white part). The otah was also quite watery and not firm enough for my liking. Apparently it has a thumbs up sign next to its name and is recommended on the menu but I do not recommend this.

This is the Pineapple Fried Rice with Seafood ($9.90). It has a few pieces of squid and 2-3 pieces of prawns. It does not come with chili flakes but I find that it is delicious with chili flakes. The squid was chewy and did not really have a fishy taste to it. Nice!

I like Siam Kitchen for its good food at affordable prices.
