chicken macaroni OK Jul 30, 2013

Categories : Café

Chicken Macaroni has always been a comfort food for me. One rainy morning, I ordered this from Wang Cafe. This is the Chicken Macaroni ($3.90). When it came, the soup was piping hot. I almost scalded my tongue. The macaroni was boiled till it was very soft. You don't need much strength and energy to chew through it. The shredded chicken was rather tough though. The dish also contains bean sprouts which tasted a bit raw so I buried them at the bottom hoping that they will be cooked more. The soup tasted like it was laden with MSG but I didn't expect to be blown away ordering this from Wang Cafe. Overall, it was ok.

Caramel milk tea Smile Jul 30, 2013

This is the Caramel Milk Tea ($2.90) with 50% sugar and no pearls. The original version with 100% sugar is too sweet for me so I opted for less sugar. Furthermore, no pearls also means that I can more drink! The caramel in this drink is very smooth and with the many cubes of ice, it just means that your throat won't hurt after consuming this as the ice will soothe your throat. Students with the NUS matriculation card can also enjoy 10% off. I like to frequent the Gong Cha at Yew Tee as there is always no queue here and the staff prepares your drinks so quickly that you can collect it immediately after you are done with payment.

Dim sum Smile Jul 30, 2013

Whenever I go have dimsum, it is a must to have Ha Gao. This is the Steamed Shrimp Dumpling ($4.80). Nowadays, most ha gao are likely have hardened skin filled with mediocre-tasting shrimp. However, the ones here are different. The skin is soft and the succulent prawn meat is accompanied by juicy seafood gravy. Nice!

This is the Steamed Salted Egg Yolk Custard Bun ($3.50). The dough was a little too thick but the filling was not bad. Compared with other custard filling, this one felt lighter and healthier.

Lastly, the Steamed BBQ Pork Bun ($3.30). The filling was a mix of sweetness and a smokey aftertaste. The steamed buns were soft and very easy to tear open. The bbq pork was not too fatty but still juicy.

Although the dim sum here will not blow your mind, you will leave this place feeling satisfied.

Breakfast food OK Jul 30, 2013

This is the Century Egg Porridge. It was filled to the brim but in my haste to eat it immediately, I forgot to take a photo of it when it first came. The porridge comes with small crackers, the kind you get in an yu sheng. This porridge was nice and warm, not too runny. I like the taste of the shallots in the porridge.

We also got the Steamed Rice Roll with Sesame Sauce ($3.80). I expected this to taste more like chee cheong fun but it was more chewy and seemed more like rice cakes instead. I didn't really like the sesame sauce. It was too sweet for me. Didn't manage to finish this rice roll dish.

Assam fish Smile Jul 30, 2013

Categories : Food Court

Everyone is all about eating healthy these days. Seeing that there is a stall that claims to provide steamed food which is the healthier alternative to food that is prepared in other ways, I decided to try it. This is the Steamed Sliced Fish with Assam Sauce ($5.50). I doubt that this dish is healthier than say a plate of stir-fried vegetables due to the assam sauce which has lots of sugar and salt. However, I must give this stall due credit for its steamed fish slices. The fish was soft and smooth. The size of each sliced fish was also quite substantial so that was good. The gravy goes very well with rice so I cleaned up this dish quite nicely. For the price, this dish is not bad. I will eat this again next time.
