This is one of my girlfriend and I favourite dinner place because I loved the aircon and it is so crucial for hot pot.

I guessed that this is my 5th visit to the restaurant. I really disappointed that we were not being greeted by the service crew at the door and then led in to a table in the center of the restaurant. It wasn't busy as we saw only 3 other tables occupied.

We were being recommended to order the signature Eight Treasure Tea. It was fragrant and was a very good thirst quencher.

While waiting for the soup, the waitress assist us to prepare the sauces and I like the sauces they mix with.

We had chosen traditional chicken broth and Szechuan mala as our soup base from the wide selection of others such as chicken and preserved vegetable. The chicken soup base was excellent.

A standard serving of Meat, Chives Dumpling and Xiao Long Bao.

A few good variety of the food items that we ordered were the fish paste, carp fish fillet, fillet of pork and bai ling mushrooms. Unfortunately, they short of crabs, slices of salmon and abalone because I prefer crabs as the seafood. Therefore, we ordered the fresh prawns on a stick, fu zhou fishballs, thinly sliced beef and cockles.

The desserts here are good as well. There's a default desserts like fried niangao with icing sugar, water chestnut cake and fried mantou with a condensed milk dipping sauce. My girlfriend chose the signature Eight Treasure "Black Rice", whereas I chose ice cream rather than fruit cocktail.

Lastly, I really hope that this restaurant can keep up the good job and invent new food such as Lamp Chop so that it will definitely a place for us to come back to!

Conclusion: If you like good quality affordable steamboat in a comfortable environment with great service, this is the place for you. Although it may not be the cheapest, it's an a la carte buffet with really good quality ingredients and a wide variety of them for the food too.

Chong Qing Grilled Fish

Chong Qing Grilled Fish

Zhuge Kaoyu next to Lavender Food Court also open till 4 a.m.

The shop's specialty is Chinese Sichuan Cuisine.

We all must thanks to the influx of Chinese immigrants here in recent years has brought along with it some new culinary pleasures.

Many of the cuisine from the northern provinces is very different from the food of Chinese Singaporeans, whose roots are in Southern China such as many Sichuan ma la (spicy and numbing) hotpot eateries.

Chong Qing is a municipality in western China that was once a city in Sichuan province and the cooking is spicy with lots of garlic, chilli and tongue-numbing Sichuan pepper.

The grilled fish recipe is apparently more than 1000 years old and the dish was reputedly a favourite with Zhuge Liang (AD181-234), a famous counsellor from the Three Kingdoms period whom some may recognise as a main character in the John Woo movie Red Cliff (2008).

This is the only place that serves this dish, which is Zhuge Kaoyu (Zhuge Liang Restaurant) in Foch Road.

It was one of the spiciest things I had ever eaten and much though I enjoyed the fish.

It was tasty from a marinade of herbs and spices, and the grilling firmed up the exterior while leaving the meat inside moist and smooth.

The fish was smooth textured and tasty, and the broth was full of sliced potato, peppers, leek, cucumber and celery.

Conclusion: A selection of Chongqing cuisine rounds out the menu. This restaurant is specialising in Sichuanese kaoyu (literally, barbecued fish). Unfortunately, this restaurant has no English menu and the (very attentive and lovely) waitresses are from PRC who I doubt they speak English.

When my colleague and I were at Tiong Bahru Plaza, I thought it was a rather good value after mulling over which restaurant to go, decided to stop by for dinner.

We had a dinner session around 7.04 p.m. on 04 October 2011.

The restaurant seemed pretty decent from the outside and they seemed to offer customised dishes.

A simple open air concept, this is one popular place among the young people having group gathering due to its good value price point on western food.

She ordered Spring Chicken and Combo C (including Ice Lemon Tea). The above pictures were all for my simple dinner at Eighteen Chefs. I'll definitely return again for more of their food as well as their desserts.

Maybe for baked rice during our next visit due to it's good service and value for money.

Overall scoring: 7 out of 10 points.

Dragged my girlfriend to Hot Tomato for Express Food...last evening. From the menu hanging outside, we thought the price is reasonable, so we went there to try out the place because we were really attracted by the menu and prices. The place is almost 100% full. Service was fast, cordial and generally quite prompt. I ordered the Ribeye and she ordered the Chicken Chop N Prawn & made ours into set meals.

They served bread & tomato soup and I actually found it quite nice. The steak arrived and I must say that my steak was medium well. I have no complain about the food as the taste is good and the cut tender. The drinks are nice too! My girlfriend agreed happily and enjoyed her dinner.

Strictly speaking, pasta is not their main dish here. However, almost every main course comes with a delectable serving of silky smooth aglio olio spaghetti, enough for a mini-meal on its own.

Total bill is only $40.95 inclusive of service charge of $3.48 and GST of $2.68. Wonderful...

Conclusion: Although the place is rather small, must try their lamb chop, Steak, king prawn and lovely aglio olio pasta (Not Bad). Lovely meal with lovely price...=)

Good Nasi Briyani Smile Sep 26, 2011

Nasi Briyani Mutton

Nasi Briyani Mutton

Ate this on Tuesday afternoon with my colleague and Unit Manager & his lady staff of M/s HSBC Insurance (Singapore) Private Limited.

Cost per cup of plain water was free of charge.

I remembered that I was finding good nasi briyani in Singapore was in 2006. The last I tried Al-Amin was great, but it's different compared to this cafe.

In fact, you'll feel less spicy and very good rice after eating at this cafe.

Note: Must mix the gravy and the meat.

All the ingredients in a plate for serving...yummy...

Moreover, it is not far from my management office.

Conclusion: Love to eat and I'd like to live in Hillbrooks to eat at all times because it only caters to the residents only. However, you can call the cafe owner for delivery services.

After submitting this review, I am hungry already...
