Desert time OK May 21, 2013
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Desserts and Cakes

Attracted by the wide range of deserts on their display, I decided to step in to Sheng Kee Dessert to satisfy my dessert cravings.

FOOD

Ordered their traditional red bean paste. The paste was thick, coupled with the sweet-smelling scent of Orange Skin (橙皮) , red beans, and lotus seeds. delicious indeed!

Mango Crystal Pearls & Grass Jelly. It encompasses thick ice, mango, some jelly-like pearls and grass jelly. Although mango was abit sour, the refreshing taste has helped to balance it out.. Great desert to refresh one's self!

SERVICE
The service was okay. Neither great nor bad, but fast and efficient in clearing stuffs

PRICE
It's abit pricey, but it's more worth it for their signature deserts where you couldnt find it elsewhere. My friend and I spent $9.90 in total on both bowl of deserts.

AMBIENCE
It's quite crowded and noisy during peak hours.

Weekend Brunch OK Mar 11, 2013

Categories : Steaks and Grills

After sending off a friend at the airport, I went for a weekend brunch at Astons Specialities, reminiscing the great dining experience I had at other Astons' outlets.

FOOD

Black pepper fish

Black pepper fish

Having missed their black pepper fish for a long time, I decided to order it. However, it was disappointing as the taste wasn't as good as it used to be, and the portion of fish seems to shrink as compared to the past. Furthermore, the grilled fish tasted bitter and wasn't very tasty when eaten with the gravy. The two sides are Onion Rings and Coleslaw.
Ice Lemon Tea

Ice Lemon Tea

The glass of ice-lemon tea was too sweet. Had to ask for ice-water to dilute it.

AMBIENCE
Great. Not very noisy as compared to other outlets.

SERVICE
Pretty fast and efficient. There was not much of a queue when I dined at about 12pm which was a surprise!

8 Course Set Meal  OK Mar 08, 2013
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Teochew | Seafood

For a 8 course set meal for 8 pax that cost $268++, you might want to consider Ban Heng Pavilion Restaurant located at HarbourFront Centre.

FOOD

The following dishes of the 8 course set meal:

瑶柱蚧肉鱼翅 Braised Shark’s Fin with Dried Scallop & Crab Meat

Roasted Meat with Jellyfish

The roasted pork is quite fattening, not much of lean meat. The dark has the roasted taste but it's little too hard to bite. The jellyfish is quite long and hard to chew, and I almost choke on it.

黄金炒虾 Salted Egg Yolk Prawns

Crispy prawns and love the tantalizing taste of the egg yolk together with the prawn. Great combination!

港蒸活深海乌鱼 Steamed Live Deep Sea Grey Mullet Fish in Hong Kong Style

辣椒焗大蟹 Chilli Crab

Love the sweet tasting gravy of Chilli Crab. Taste supherb when eaten with the crispy 馒头!

小白菜 Xiao Bai Cai

金菇焖伊府面 Stewed Ee-fu Noodles with Chives & Mushrooms

The noodles are rather salty and there are not much ingredients. Will tend to get sick of it after some bites.

豆沙锅饼 Red Bean Pancake

Wrapped by a thick layer of crispy texture, the red bean filling taste extra great when placed in your mouth. My favourite dish in this set meal !

SERVICE:
Staffs are quite friendly, but need to be reminded constantly to change our plates after "dirty affair" (removing prawns/crabs' shell)

AMBIENCE:
Just a normal restaurant to me. Nothing of the extraordinary caught my attention.

PRICE:
It's considered cheap for a set meal dinner at a restaurant, though it's not that fantastic, but still edible! Great for people who would like to give a treat but at an economical level...
The restaurant also has its buffet menu. The buffet menu is priced cheaply at $19 or $25 per pax. However, price of the food sometimes determine its quality. So try at your own risk! smile

Special Eggy tarts! OK Mar 03, 2013
Categories : Singaporean | Desserts and Cakes

Craving for a swwet touch to end the day, I bought special egg tarts home!

Why do I say special? Apart from the normal flavour, it has many other special flavours as shown below:

FOOD

After some hesitation, I bought myself four tarts - Normal flavour, Pandan & Red Bean flavour, Double Chocolate and Chicken Mushroom flavour. The normal flavour taste pretty normal indeed. Double chocolate is not very impressive as I thought to be, especially for the first thick layer of chocolate that melts in your mouth. Pandan & Red Bean wasn't that good too, as the red bean is added only at the bottom of the tart, which means you can only taste the red bean when you are about to finish the tart. Out of the four, I prefer the pepper chicken flavour. It taste special, something we don't see it often.

PRICE
One egg tart cost $1.40, 4 boxes of tarts cost $5.60, and there will be discount if your buy 6 or 8... I think it's somehow expensive as one small egg tart cost you about the price of a bread(those bread-talk bread)?

sweet desert! OK Feb 24, 2013
Categories : Chinese Desserts | Desserts and Cakes

After dinner, with a craving for desert, my friend and I came to Desert Story @ Serangoon NEX Shopping Centre

A few of their specialities are Mango Sago, Yam paste with Ginko Nut, Almond Paste....

FOOD

Anyway, I ordered the Mango Sago. It was a little sour (perhaps due to the mango). However, I like the soft sago and those tiny pomelo that makes each mouthful so delicious. This bowl cost me $3.40

While my friend ordered Honeydew Sago. It's sweet and tasty. Rich in coconut and sago, it leaves behind a one-more-bowl addiction. This bowl cost $3.40 as well.

SERVICE
Self-service as they only take orders at the counter. No service charge was imposed, so naturally do not have any service from waiter/waitress ! lol

AMBIENCE
I do not really like the ambience as it's mostly noisy, like a market place. Everyone will gather there and rest their legs after some time of shopping. Besides, some people can talk really loud.

PRICE
I think the price is fair. Neither expensive nor cheap. It's fair enough to pay for such nice desert!
