Nice Bento Sets - Japanese Food Smile Oct 30, 2010

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Ramen | Sushi/Sashimi

Another good and affordable Japanese Restaurant.. The place is situated in Chijmes in town. Easy to go and when you step in the restaurant, you feel "expensive". The service of staff is so-so but they are fast to clear away unnecessary plates on your table. The table is either too small or the serving trays are too big. They serve the meal in a big black tray for presentation purpose.

The sashimi are fresh and there are no awful aftertaste of them. There's this mix platter with avocado and mango sushi on it. The combination of them is heavenly! We ordered a plate of mixed sashimi sushi too.. they are indeed raw! Looking at the raw-ness, I really have to battled with myself to try it! To our surprise, it taste great! Not that raw at all!!

The bento set is a great match! I personally like the grilled cod fish in terriyaki sauce.. The salad is fresh too! Tempura and fried chicken is fried on the spot! Yummy to the max!!

The place is good for corporate lunch, private dinner with love ones and dinner with a small group of friends.

What's next after the long queue at Koi?? The new upcoming bubble tea - Gong Cha!

Currently there are only 3 branches - Vivo City, Square 2 and City Mall. The queue of this is still manageble and price is affordable. The same format of ordering..

1st: Choose a drink
2nd: Choose the size
3rd: Choose the Sugar level
4th: Make the payment
5th: Da-tah~~~ ur drink is served!!!

We ordered a Gong Cha Milk Tea 70%, a Lemon Juice with White Pearl Ai-yu Jelly 70%, a Purple Plum Tea 50% and a Plum Green Tea 50% . I guess we were expecting too much from that little cuppa! The taste is not as nice as I thought will be.

I will think that this is just a normal bubble tea.. so not really worth queuing for... =x

Eat your HandBurger with HAND OK Oct 29, 2010
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : American | Restaurant | Burgers and Sandwiches

Who ever eats handburger with fork and knife?! Though it's call The Handburger, the burger were served with fork and knife! lol

The menu board is presented in a clipboard style and the food are categorized in "main menu", "make a set meal", "meat burgers", "poultry burgers", seafood/vegetarian burgers", side & buns", "soup & salds" and "something for kids". Wondering where the drinks are?? They have another menu for drinks; "something for tea", "desserts", "hot drinks" and "cold drinks"... Hmm.. you have to do some reading before you can order your food...

On your table, there is a huge coaster with fork and knife ready for food to be served. When the food is here, the staff have to place the plates on the allocated space on the coaster. Presentation is nice! But you may start to think how and where to start eating!!

I ordered the Handburger original plus a sunny side up together with a cup of ice lemon tea and wedges as side dish. My friend ordered the Fish burger with a cup of ice lemon tea and buffalo wings as side. All are nice except for the buffalo wings. Order that at your own risk cos' it doesn't taste like buffalo wings at all! The aftertaste in the mouth was awful! Luckily, the manager was kind enough to offset that in the final bill.

Price of the set menu are affordable but cannot be compared to the normal fast food chains. It cost twice more than a normal set meal from the fast food chains. It's a good experience to eat there but cannot be on a regular basis.

Takoyaki aka Grilled Octopus Smile Sep 13, 2010
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese

I still remembered the taste of the takoyakiI had in Tokyo.. it was so yummilicious! The outer layer of the tako ball is crispy and the octopus was generous.. It was big and juicy..

I thought I would never find such good tako balls in Singapore until my friend bought me a box of Takoyaki for tea break! I was reluctant to try as but the smell attracted me to put my hands on it.. I love the katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes), it's one of the main thing you will need when eating this!!! The serving mayonnaise and the takoyaki sauce was generous and it enhances the taste of the takoyaki. The octopus in it is big! lol

I can't the right word to describe the takoyaki.. it is very unlike the normal ones you had in pasar malam or in the malls.. As the queue is always long, they will always serve fresh and piping hot takoyaki!!! If you are a takoyaki lover, you wil die with regret without trying this!

Oh ya.. not to forget the size per takoyaki is 2-3 times bigger compared to the normal ones. I will let the picture do the talking..

Best Japanese Food in Town  Smile Sep 08, 2010
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Hotel | Buffet

After returning from my holiday from Tokyo, I was totally in love with Japanese food. I did enjoyed Jap food but after the trip, I can have jap food almost every meal! tongue

Usually I will go to S**** Sushi / I****** Sushi to fulfil my jap food cravings but ever since my colleagues brought me to Ikoi @ Miramar Hotel, I swore not to visit any of the others.

The restaurant is situated at Miramar Hotel at Havelock Road. I must say it's quite inconvenient if you do not drive. We were greeted by the huge sake barrels and lantern at the entrance of the restuarant and we know we are at the right place! The deco of the restaurant seems to bring you all the way to a restuarant in Japan.

When we were seated, there were sashimi, salad, yakitori, chawamushi and tempura served. They actually did an "auto-push" of these items as it's the most common dishes people will order. How sweet they are! When you are enjoying the food served, you can then go through the long list of food they have on the menu. There are a wide variety of food for you to choose and I am sure one of it will satisfy your taste bud!

There is a very special seafood soup served like tea.. It was served in a teapot with little cups and before pouring it out, have to mix it with lime.. The thought of it make me drool! The tempura are served hot and you can hear the "crisp crisp" sound when you bite it! Fried rice is delicious as it's not too oily...

Well, not enough food? Just grab the menu and ask for more!! The service staff will be glad to serve you! lol
