Grab and go OK Mar 27, 2018

Decide to grab breakfast from PB a this little shiny bacon sweet roll caught my eye, there is a chilli version however I didn’t think my stomach could handle heat in the morning. When back at the office I plate and cut the bacon roll, inside revealed a layer of pastry and rolled around egg and herbs.
I take a bite of this delightful looking roll and my first response is that it’s a little too sweet.
It is good but if the amount of honey was reduced and the bread thicker/more dense to complement the bacon and egg it would be a winner. And because it’s too sweet for my palate (yes I know it’s a sweet bacon roll) it drops down to a two star as I won’t be ordering it again.

Fish or shape? OK Mar 24, 2018
Categories : Fast Food | Halal

Having grown up in the land that created fish and chips I quite often need a fix. Today I stumbled across Long John Slivers. Looking at the menu it narrowed down to the two piece fish combo or the two piece dory combo. When I asked the staff what was the difference between the two she replied one is a fish (dory) and the other is a shape, which made my decision easier, fish. The dory combo meal with fries and drink came very quickly and was hot. At first glance the chips didn’t look good very however when I did eat them they were nice and crunch, they tasted better than they looked. Only complaint is there should be a more. Now for the fish, the batter doesn’t quite have the same texture as the fish and chips from U.K. And the fish which was a good sized portion was little tough. Overall it just edged in at three stars as my fix for fish and fries (I’ve come to accept that it’s difficult to get chips in Asia) was just about satisfied. In addition to my complaint about the portion size of the fries is that the carton that the fish and fries came in was too small, there isn’t sufficient space to cut the fish. And on the subject of cutting the fish the plastic knife was too soft and kept on bending. This is the same in a lot of places and I guess instead of complaining I should carry with me a travel cutlery set which would more environmentally friendly. I marked hygiene as two as the tables even though wiped still has bits of food laying around. And also the floor had lots of shoe prints.

Pho or no? OK May 12, 2018
Categories : Vietnamese | Café | Halal

For me Pho is all about the broth, if it’s good the rest normally falls into place. I’ve not had a good Pho in awhile so I decide to check out the So Pho chain. The menu has most of the common Vietnamese dishes. I order the combo Pho with sliced beef, brisket and balls and also a Vietnamese drip coffee. The Pho arrives in no time along with the bean sprouts, chilli and lime. I add these to the bowl and then as with all Pho’s I eat I take the spoon/ladle and take a sip of the soup. And as expected it’s mediocre, it doesn’t have the Pho taste and is too salty. I say expected as I’ve come to terms that it’s going to be awhile till I find a good Pho.
Overall the noodles, beef balls, brisket and sliced beef were also OK. As for portion size it’s average but I must say there was a generous amount of slice beef. The Vietnamese coffee was good. I’m going to give the taste a two due to the saltiness of the soup. For service I’ll give a four as the staff were attentive and smiling.
If anyone has recommendations for Pho please let me know.

Not for the steak Cry May 12, 2018

I was looking forward to trying the steak at this place. Upon arrival I didn’t have to wait for a table, the service was quick and I ordered the ribeye steak (medium rare) with pepper sauce and a Merlot to pair. When the streak arrived it looked good with the fries, pot of ratatouille and pepper sauce. I start with the steak and was disappointed. The meat was a too chewy but the chips, ratatouille and Merlot was good. I don’t know about you but I generally have a high anticipation of steak and when it’s bad the disappointment is also higher. With chicken if it’s dry you can add more sauce to make it more palatable however with a steak it’s like torture down to the last bite.
The decor and surroundings was nice and clean but the club music didn’t really match the mood.
Even though the steak wasn’t as expected it doesn’t represent whether the overall food is good or bad as it was just bad cut of meat. The chips and ratatouille were the redeeming factors and is what determined that I will be returning to So France to try other items on the menu.

Disappointing Cry May 06, 2018
Categories : Korean | Fast Food | Halal | Korean Fried Chicken

4 finger is usually busy when I pass by so I decide to find out what the fuss was all about. I order 6 pieces of the signature wingettes/drumettes with 2 hot and 4 soy garlic. I sat down with wireless pager device and after a few minutes my order was ready. Visually the wings looked OK. I take the hot sauce wing and take bite and find the sauce a little spicy for my palate. I then take the soy garlic flavoured and found this too salty. I will usually order fried chicken with with no sauce as I find the sauces can be overpowering which is exactly what it is at 4 fingers. The option for no sauce is not on the menu but this would not have made a difference as the I find the batter too chewy and not crispy enough. And as for the meat, it’s not that it was dry but it wasn’t juicy/moist enough. Overall this disappointing and won’t be returning.
