Japanese home-cooked food OK Jul 18, 2015

Full review: http://nkikichua.blogspot.sg/2015/07/ippin-cafe-bar-mohamed-sultan-clarke.html

Ippin Cafe Bar is Singapore’s first home concept Japanese cafe bar located along Mohamed Sultan Road. Their concept is to showcase a cosy home setting, allowing others to come by to enjoy the tranquil. It may be known as a hidden gem or one’s usual hangout for the comfort food, and not forgetting a drink to unwind from the hectic work life.

They offer set meals like Oyakudon Set [$15] - Chicken and egg on rice (served slightly 'wetter'), hence those who prefer it dry, this may not be for you. The secret of oishii is dashi (stock), the chicken is boiled with dashi, that explains why it is so juciy! The set is served with Hatcho miso soup, salad and houjicha (roasted green tea) pudding. Definitely my go to for comfort food during rainy weather.

For oysters lover, there is also a Deep Fried Oyster Set [$24]. These oysters are raised in clean ocean so be ready for a clean taste, yay to no more fishy taste! The oysters are lightly battered to golden brown, where it is crispy on the outside and still moist and tender on the inside. The set is served with rice (with barley), Hatcho miso soup, Nikujaga pork and potato stew, salad and houjicha (roasted green tea) pudding.

To go along with the meals, try the Marumo Mori Genmaicha The One tea (Genmaicha, Sencha, Houjicha). My favourite is Houjicha! Of cause, premium sake are also available.

Specialises in Pufferfish Smile Jul 18, 2015

Full review:http://nkikichua.blogspot.sg/2015/07/fuku-fine-fugu-pufferfish-kaiseki.html

Quality at its highest whereby all their ingredients are imported from Japan. Out of the 100 species of pufferfish in the world, only 20 species of them are fit for human consumption. It is imported twice a week all the way from Shimonoseki, Japan, recognised as the world’s fugu capital. FUKU also offers set courses featuring parts of fugu fish cooked in different ways. It is definitely worth trying!

Although Pufferfish is known for as a poisonous delicacies but ALL IS 100% SAFE here in FUKU, especially under Agri-food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) strict regulations.

A must try: paper-thin slices of Tessa (Pufferfish Sashimi) served with the condiments and ponzu sauce. The chewy texture blew me away! It is so different from the cooked ones. I am glad to have ticked this exotic dish off my list! Indeed a gourmet experience, loving every bits of it.

If you don't like it raw, have it deep fried - Fugu Karaage. The aroma is heavenly and the marination is amazingly good. The only obstacle stopping me is the chunk of bones. Or have it in hotpots, I personally likes the Soya Bean Soup - the creamy, sweet and thick consistency satisfy a soup person like me.

Authentic Italian food Smile Jul 18, 2015

Categories : Italian | European | Restaurant | Pasta

Full review: http://nkikichua.blogspot.sg/2015/06/capri-trattoria-pizzeria-binjai-park.html

Capri Trattoria & Pizzzeria, an Italian restaurant is located at Binjai Park in up-scale Bukit Timah. The menu is dedicated to region-centric Italian favourites with interesting ingredients, cooking and curing methods and seasonal produce. Keep a look out on their regional monthly specials menu, which features 3 dishes either from the a la carte menu or new creations (from over 20 regions in Italy).

The legendary Pizza Bread is fragrantful and addictive. You may even think this is the Indian naan but it really isn't. It tasted just like the pizza base and is simply seasoned with herbs. Homemade at its best.

My favourites are Cacciucco alla Livornese - Mussels, shelled prawns, squid, clams, crayfish and cod in a tomato-based sauce. Perfect for the rainy days, the ultimate comfort food smile With the combination of seafood and tomato soupy base, no doubt it wins for heart of many. For pasta lovers, you got to try Cannarozzi allo zafferano - A unique looking plate of pasta, it is almost like eating penne upsize. Eat it while it is hot!

If you still have room for desserts, go for the Torta al limone, a warm, homemade lemon cake with a side of cream. A bite of this and it warms my heart, taste felt like home. Another comfort food for the soul on chilly days.

Weekend brunch Smile Jul 18, 2015

Full review: http://nkikichua.blogspot.sg/2015/05/roosevelts-diner-bar-new-bridge-road.html

Roosevelt’s Diner & Bar is situated in a quiet corner of Tanjong Pagar, away from the crowd yet easily accessible via NEL Outram Station exit. They offer hearty all-day dining in a casual setting, with a huge slant towards artisanal and gourmet fares.

The latte art is super instagram worthy! However, it is a tad too sweet for my liking, as I prefer it to have a slight bitterness after-taste.

As part of their weekend brunch, I would recommend Crab Cake Benedict - crab cake, English muffin, poached egg, garlic mayonnaise and served with side salad. Something different from the usual egg benedict and is reasonably priced for a real crab cake! It is a good deal smile

Something on the regular menu and it's only available from lunch to closing, BBQ Baby Back Ribs - $22 (half), $28 (full). The meat was tender and flavourful. If you are a meat lover, this could be for you.

I got to say Roosevelt is pretty generous with the servings!

Quality fine dining Smile May 04, 2015

Full review: http://nkikichua.blogspot.sg/2015/05/the-royal-mail-ascott-raffles-place.html

The Royal Mail Restaurant & Bar is home to contemporary British cuisines and they has been driven by an aspiration to deliver delicate dishes that exemplify quality and creativity. Usually for fine dining settings during dinner, they will start by serving you bread and butter for a light start. And I have to admit I my mind was blown with this Gruyere Cheese Bread, it's like an aromatherapy to my soul, this photo simply do not do justice to how good this is! Soft and moist centered, filled with cheese and black pepper, giving you the hint of peppery spice.

Seafood Bouillabaisse [$28] is a starter worth trying, The tangy broth is filled with the seafood goodness therefore it will leave you with a strong aftertaste, best paired with a glass of wine to clear the palate. Thumbs up to the fresh and succulent langoustine (a type of large prawn), taste alike to lobster too.

Honey Glazed Kurobuta Pork [$56] is one of my favourite main! This ain't your normal pork chop haa! The apple butter sauce drizzle over the fatty pork is like the best combination, if it gets a little too fatty, the apple infused in white wine helps to cleanse the palate.

Amongst all, the classic earl grey tea takes a dessert variation in the invigorating Enhanced Bergamot Earl Grey Jelly [$15] - enlivening this dessert is frozen yoghurt, passionfruit coulis and macerated berries. I could not get enough of this! Sweet and sour, it is like a party on my palate smile
