The moment we stepped into the restaurant, we were greeted by the smell of curry fish head. So, this is certainly an item that we should try.
Place is air-conditioned, with cozy lounge chairs. We ordered the following items :

Curry Fish Head $20

It is half a garouper head with lots of greens - long beans, brinjal & lady's fingers. There is also afew pieces of deep fried bean curd sticks. An unique addition which paired well with the curry.

Claypot Fish Head $20
This is a deep fried fish head served in a brown bubbling hot gravy with a raw egg on top. Stir in the egg & you get a very rich & tasty gravy. The greens included brocoli, napa cabbage, cauliflower, green peas.

Salted Egg Prawn $18
6 deep fried prawns (in shells) in a tasty salted egg sauce. Not much sauce though, that it why all the more you must enjoy licking the prawn shells & the curry leaves to savour the sauce coated there.
The dishes go well with plain rice. Indeed a hearty meal, as the fish heads were really fresh.
I'll be back to try other dishes.

I spent $15 per person.

Soft & Fluffy Cinnamon Rolls Smile Sep 16, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Desserts and Cakes | Halal

Walked past the kiosk and decided to buy a couple of the rolls as they were having a promo then - 4 for $8.50, 6 for $12.

A group of gals wanted to purchase 4, so we pooled our orders, and I got the 2 buns I wanted, for $4.

The buns were quite big in size Actually. Ordered the salted caramel and the chocolate crunchy.  Microwaved the next morning according to instruction - 1 min. I think this was a little too long as the chocolate melted into a messy pool.

The rolls were indeed very soft. While it was hugh in size, I think because it was so soft and fluffy, it was quite ok for breakfast without being too heavy.

The caramel was ok. Unless u are a hugh chocolate one, it was little too rich, and can be too cloying after a few bites.

I'll try other non-chocolate flavours the next time.

Tasty pizza OK Sep 16, 2014

Categories : Italian | Pasta | Halal

Sarpino is a chain of pizza restaurants with outlets islandwide. They usually have promotions, eg 50% off, for take aways.

Ordered a takeaway Hawaiian and a BBQ Chicken pizza. Both were the thick crusted type and quite tasty. However, bbq sauce is a little of a overdose, making it a little too sweet.

Reasonably cheap at under $30 for 2 medium 12 inch pizzas.

11 course Japanese set meal Smile Aug 02, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Hotel

Bought a 11-course set menu from Deal.com.sg and was looking forward to try the food in this newly opened Japanese restaurant in Royal Plaza on Scotts.

Sashimi
The set comprised of salmon, tuna & octopus. As I am not a fan of the latter 2, the restaurant was nice to oblige with a wholly salmon sashimi platter. The cuts were good, near the belly.

Chawanmushi
This was smooth & tasty.

Potato Sarada
A tasty Japanese style potato salad.

Yasai Sarada
A vegetable salad.

Sushi Mori
This comprised of salmon sushi & some makis. I'm glad that they did not serve the Gion Roll, which a reviewer had described as 'bana
na-kiwi-ketchup sushi ', which seems like a 'joke' served in a fine dining japanese restaurant

Deep Fried Ebi
This was coated with bread crumbs. The skill is evident as the coating is crispy & non-oily.

Chicken Cutlet
Tasty, but alittle oily, though.

Saba Misoni
A small piece of saba in miso sauce. Fish is dry.

Grilled Fish
Again, fish is dry.

Zaru soba
2 types of soba. The soba sauce is too diluted.

We were offered a complimentary dish - either tempura prawn or grilled scallop. As there was 4 of us (i.e. 2 sets), we ordered 1 of each.

Ebi Tempura
Well battered, but of course, prawn is scrawny.

Grilled scallop
Not fresh.

Fruit Platter
Comprised of water melon, kiwi & dragon fruit. These come in pairs, so, it means that each diner gets a single piece. Kiwi is unripe, sour with a hard core.

Note that all portions served are for 2, so that means sharing everything except for the chawanmushi, which each of us get an individual serving.

The food did not impress. The saving grace was the fresh salmon sashimi of near belly cut.

Average, Pricey Food OK Aug 02, 2014

Have always wanted to try this place & finally made our way their for lunch on Sunday.

There were only about 2-3 other tables when we arrived. A sign of average/below average food ? Let's see.

Ordered the following :

Mushroom Cream Soup $4.50
Served with a slice of baguette, this is so-so, in fact taste like those canned condensed soup.

Golden Olive Chicken $15.90
2-piece fried chicken served with choice of 2 sides. Selected mashed potato & shrimp rice. Chicken did not look like those in the picture, is average tasting. Rice is bland.

Jerk BBQ $17.90
This is broiled chicken slathered with their BBQ sauce. Had olive rice & mashed potato as sides. Chicken is tasty due to the sauce, which is also average tasting. Olive rice is no different from the shrimp rice - minus the shrimp, & bland.

Pan-seared escalope of Salmon
Wanted to try this, but it was not available

Pomodoro Mare $14.90
We requested for the  seafood tp be replaced with just prawns only, which they obliged. Tomato sauce is too tangy for my liking.

Cookies & Cream Milkshake $5.90
Perhaps cheap vanilla ice cream is used, so the cookies & cream milkshake is another average tasting beverage.
