[ BaliThai ]
It's been some time since I last visited Bali Thai restaurant so decided to meet my gal friend for lunch at Bali Thai Seletar Mall.
This branch space was very big and spacious, can easily cater 100 customers. Whole restaurant was also nicely furnished with displays related to taste of Thailand.
We skipped the lunch sets and ordered ala carte dishes instead.

(1) Minced Chicken Stuffed Wings $3.50each
- These wings were crispy on the outside, the chicken meat inside were firm. A pity the taste was too bland otherwise it will be a great appetizer to start with. Take with the Thai sweet chilli dip provided, it'll help.

(2) Glass Noodles with Seafood Green Curry $11.80
- When the food was served, the appearance itself already turned me off. Initially I thought the glass noodles will be swimming in a pool of curry but it turned out to be the drier version. Coconut content was too heavy, too gelat to finish the whole portion. And this pitiful "seafood" version has none other than 3 tiny prawns with lots of uncooked eggplant slices. I only finished 1/4 plate.
(3) Phad Thai with Grilled Chicken $10.80

- Phad Thai flares a lot better than the previous dish. The grilled chicken thigh was well marinated. Meat was flavourful, texture was tender and not oily. Noodles were nicely done too. Texture was right for me, not too dry and they didn't clump together too.
Verdict: Food standards of Bali Thai seems to deteriorate over the years. I remember it wasn't this bad the last time I visited, or was it only this outlet? Manager on duty did came over to ask me why I left most of the glass noodles untouched, but after my explanation, her reactive was just a word of "orh". This type of service really has to improve. With only a few tables occupied during lunch hours in such a spacious restaurant, it's really unsightly. Hopefully the next time I drop by, there will be surprises.

The Holqa Cafe OK Oct 27, 2015

[Holqa Cafe]

Situated at 37 East Coast Road, together with a lot other f & b competitors along the same stretch, lies a tiny weenie cafe, The Holqa. "Holqa" actually means "link" in Maltese language. The cafe is quite small and space rather limited but could still cater up to 20 guests.

My partner and I ordered coffee, eggs ben and redeemed a set of wings we won on Instagram contest.

(1) Flat white coffee $5
- Coffee tastes smooth down my throat, presenting me with chocolatey nutty aftertaste. I didn't asked about their beans supplies though.

(2) Bearnaise Eggs Benedict with Braised Asian Pulled Pork $15.90
- Two poached eggs were served on a toasted brioche, together with braised asian pull pork, sandwiched in between and greens on the side. Poached Eggs were nicely done, love it when the yolks flows. The bearnaise sauce was supposed to be spicy but I can't taste any spiciness. Braised asian pulled pork was tender but flavour not strong enough thus tasted a little bland. It will definitely taste better if meat were marinated longer. I also preferred my toast to be more buttery.

(3) SnS Ji $9.90
- Six deep fried mid wings coated with in-house special sweet and spicy sauce. The sauce was like a combi of malt candy (麦芽糖) mixed in with thai sweet chilli sauce which sticks on your teeth like glue. The overall taste was much sweeter rather than spicy. The peanut bits scattered on top of the wings gave them the extra crunch and also leaves a nice peanut fragrance aftertaste in our mouth.
Verdict: Overall experience at Holqa was a pleasant one. The young lads on duty were very polite and friendly too. Although food tastes average but it's still a nice place to chill at. I didn't try out any desserts this time round so I might pop by again the next time.

Wee's Family Coffee Shop Smile Oct 20, 2015

[ Wee's family coffee shop]

This coffeeshop situated at Bedok reservoir road, block 117, is drawing quite a crowd recently. Especially after a group of popular bloggers came for food tasting, food photos went viral on social media platform, their business became very good. If you intend to come on weekends, remember to make reservations first. How did they fare? Let me walk you through with the dishes me and my friends ordered.

(1) Sweet Potato Leaves with Sambal $6
- A regular dish that I would order each time I had cze char. Wee's version didn't taste oomph. The sambal chilli used lack the dried shrimps fragrance and it's not spicy too.

(2) Handmade Prawn Rolls $8
- A delicacy made up of minced pork, prawns, water chestnuts, spring onions, carrots blend together and wrapped in bean curd skin. Well marinated and deep fried to golden brown, Wee's version wasn't oily at all. I love the water chestnuts inside which gave the whole dish the extra crunch.

(3) Salted Egg Prawn Balls $16
- Are you a salted egg person? I am! I love any dish with salted egg. These prawny babes are de-shelled and fried till crispy. Clothed in golden salted egg jackets, Wee's holds the "dry" version rather than those wet gravy type. Personal preference, the amount of salted egg can be more but this signature dish here at Wee's is definitely good enough to satisfied your salted egg cravings!

(4) Mushrooms w/ bean curd $12
- Soft and silky piece of bean curd accompanied by chinese mushrooms, bunapi shimeiji and deep fried enoki. This dish didn't cause any wow factor in me but it's a decent choice to order as most of you know that consuming mushrooms can improve our body immune systems and soy is an excellent choice of protein.

(5) Prawn Paste Chicken Wings $8
- Among all the dishes we ordered, I like this prawn paste chicken wings the most. Being another highlight here, the taste of prawn paste was really strong and prominent. The skin so flavorful, crispy and meat very juicy! If we wasn't visiting so many places that day, I think I could easily conquer at least 3-4 pieces!
Verdict: A great cze char place for good food with family and friends. Prices are reasonable and food portions are good. Easy accessible and there's also ample parking within this HDB premises. I will definitely revisit to try out other dishes.

[Beegurt]

I was traveling around Thomson area, in search for food when this small little shop was spotted in a corner. Thomson V Two was the name of the building. My brother & I decide to give it a shot as the yellow logo quite attracts us smile

The unit was small, less than 10 seats,  and no decorations was seen around the interior. A very basic shop dressed in white. Nevertheless, we proceed to order our cold treat.

Beegurt basically sells frozen yogurt with New Zealand raw honeycomb. Their Beegurt special consists of yogurt with honeycomb + 2 toppings. Toppings from fresh fruits to nuts to chocolate & candies for you to choose from. For $6.80, the portion is abit small but taste won over the size..

I like their smooth yogurt texture with milky aftertaste & the honeycomb is good.. The sweetness is not too overpowering & I love it smile

It was drizzling outside while we are enjoying our frozen yogurt.. Cold weather is best accompanied with frozen yogurt or ice cream! Shiok to max!!

We tried out some dishes from the buffet line.
(1) Chinese Cold Cut

- A typical plate of cold dish (冷盘) which we usually sees on the table in chinese restaurant or during wedding banquets. The highlight here were the fried quail eggs, chewy yet delicious. Rating 2/5
(2) 62 degree Soft-boiled Egg with Chicken essence

- My most love dish of the night. A 62 degrees soft-boiled egg on a bed of soft, smooth steamed egg base, topped off with Brand's chicken essence. A unique combination which I never tried before but this marriage was wonderful. Delicious and I felt energized after consuming this protein loaded dish. Rating 5/5
(3) Potato Salad with Pommery Mayonnaise

- A little surprise when this potato salad was served because it didn't really blend in with the chinese dishes before this. Nevertheless, it tasted decent but I wished they were on a bed of romaine lettuce and mixed nuts to have the extra crunch. Rating 2/5
(4) Braised Tofu with Crabmeat and Egg White

- A lightweight dish with homely taste, comfort food for me. The seafood freshness from crabmeat were the key factor to the savoury gravy and egg white made the whole tofu dish more smooth. Rating 4/5
(5) Scotch Egg

- Eggs were too well done and texture was very dry. Meat was bland and mustard provided didn't help at all. I suggest to skip this.
(6) Over-Roasted Chicken with Quail Egg and Spicy Tomato Sauce

- The spiciness of this tomato sauce was mild to me but I do like the smokey aftertaste. Chunks of chicken breast meat were abit dry so it's best to go with more gravy to balance it. Quail eggs tasted great and chewy on its own. Rating 3/5
(7) XO Fried rice with Crabmeat

- My the other loved dish apart from the 62 degrees soft-boiled egg. You could smell the fragrance of this fried rice even before it touches the table. Fried rice tasted very homely, just like how my mummy would have prepared it and rice texture 粒粒分明. Scoop some sambal chilli from the prawn dish and take together with this fried rice. It will definitely up your taste palate. Rating 4/5
(8) Sambal Prawn with Quail Egg

- Sambal chilli used for these prawns were good enough to give me the spicy kick! Prawns were also fresh and firm, I totally don't mind consuming more pieces smile Enough said about the quails eggs as a few dishes mentioned above have them. Rating 4/5
** Overall experience was pleasant, most important was great company with a group of foodie friends. Food were decent but could be better. Service was good and price was reasonable. Most fun part was hands-on building my own terrarium and knowing a lot facts about eggs. **
