Macau Pork Chop Bun OK Dec 27, 2014
Categories : Burgers and Sandwiches

Macau's famous Pork Chop bun 猪扒包 finally arrives in Singapore. They have chosen serangoon NEX as their first station. Situated just next to the escalator, it's really not easy to missed it. It was a Saturday afternoon when I visited but the shop wasn't crowded.

The shop was not designed to resemble Macau, only with a big pink piggy signage & a lamp pole stating "macau" on it. The place wasn't big also, 30 seaters the most. For the menu, other than their signature bun, they do serve other choices such as pork chop rice/noodle set, curry fishballs, chicken wings, desserts etc. The prices was on the high side.

I ordered their signature 猪扒包 & a pork chop rice. It took them 10mins to serve me my bun & a little longer for my rice set which I think it's too long. The place wasn't crowded also but existing customers got to gather around the pick up area to wait for their food. The staff there wasn't well trained also. Counter staff wasn't very polite when taking orders from me & kept asking me in singlish "no more ah? Only 2 items ah? That's all ah?" 😔 Another auntie was shouting food queue number across the whole place every now & then 😂

Back to my orders. The bun oni consists of a piece of pork chop & the bun, nothing else so I don't see why the drag. It's $6.90 for your info. The meat slice was thin, abit dry & not flavourful enough. The punch is not there whereas the marinate doesn't give you the wow factor. I wouldn't say it was not nice but just no surprise. Although I can't remember the taste I had in Macau but I think these served locally can be improved.

The pork chop rice set comes in small portion also. $7.90 with the same type of pork chop slice but with a sunny side up, little rice & accompanied by their curry gravy. It's was too small a portion to feed my hubby. Hahaha.. Sunny side up was overcooked & no runny egg yolk. But I could say the curry gravy saved the day. The curry gravy was thick & fragrant, tastes very different from our usual local nonya curry. It goes really well with the relatively bland pork chop & rice. So I guessed the curry fishballs should be good smile

I will give this place another try someday, to try other dishes on the menu, especially the pork chop polo bun which was yet to be available when I visited. Hopefully the polo bun version can be the hero! By then, I wished that staff performance can improved too, it's such an important factor for service line.

Frozen by a 1000 blessings Smile Dec 26, 2014

Categories : Australian / New Zealand | Café | Frozen Yogurt

After seeing food bloggers blogging about this new yogurt place, I decide to come see & taste for myself. Frozen was situated at a corner below HDB block 126, Toa Payoh. Very prominent as its facing the public carpark. I love the "wood" feel of the shop front, it protraited a natural nature  feel smile While I was busy taking photos of their shopfront, a young lad with smiley face actually came out from the shop & gave me a polite greeting smile Thumbs up for his gesture!

He asked: "Would you like to come in & give our yogurt a try?" Ohhhh.. 😄 Oh gosh! A woman's weak point, cannot resist desserts & nice looking young lads! Wahahaha. So I proceeded in smile

The interior was so clean with yogurt dispensers properly installed on 1 side, while toppings were cleanly laid in small bowls near the cashier counter. They have quite a variety of toppings. I didn't do a proper count but I think more than 20 🙀 There are also nutrition value cards for you to read up on, stating how much calories/ energy you're taking.

Ok, back to the young lad. He let me try all the flavours they have that day. From Natural to Coconut, Mango Soy, Chocolate, Green tea & Pomegranate. I love Pomegranate frozen yogurt the most so I chose it as my final choice. My hubby prefers the mango soy & coconut so he got 2 flavours in his cup. The yogurt were smooth & not too sweet, I like!! Kids will surely like the chocolate flavoured yogurt because it tastes like chocolate milk!

Frozen by A Thousand Blessings yogurt by weight. $3.80 for 100g. Toppings range from different types of chocolate to cheesecake to fruits to popcorn etc.. Too many to be named. My hubby was so greedy on his toppings (too many choices) so his share alone costs $11.

Nevertheless, both of us enjoyed our visit. With yummy yogurt + cozy environment & friendly staff, this is definirely a "will come back again" dessert place for us smile

民众菜馆 Ming Chung Smile Dec 23, 2014
Categories : Fujian/Heng Hwa | Coffeeshop | Seafood | Zi Char

While we are still discussing where to have our late night dinner after movies, suddenly my hubby shouted "民众" from behind! But we just had it YESTERDAY! Lol. Ming Chung Restaurant (民众), started in 1933, specializes in Authentic Heng Hua (兴化) cuisines. They used to be operating near Sungei road before moving to Maude.

兴化卤面 Henghua Lor Mee- Their signature noodles. The heng Hua noodles has a good springy texture. The broth is sweet & fragrant, from the combination of lor bak, la la clams, prawns, sliced pork, vegetables etc! It's a HIT!! Add in vinegar & it's a Da Bomb! The next "must-order" dish is la la clams. Stir fried in spicy bean paste sauce, the gravy is sooo good!

Other than these 2 delicious dishes, my hubby's usual order will also includes Deep Fried Batang fish, Cuttlefish kangkong, Prawn Paste Chicken Wings etc... The fish & chicken wings are so crispy & yummy, you will lay your fingers for more! Cuttlefish is Q & vegetables really fresh. (So now you know why DIETING always fails??! 😂😂😂) Try the deep fried prawns also.
Another locals favorite is the prawn rolls, but those sold here tasted ordinary to me so you could skip it smile

Conclusion: Most of the dishes here are good, portions ideal. Prices are reasonable. The restaurant has 2units, air-con & non air-con areas for you to choose. Ample parking in opp. building. So what are you waiting for? Move your butts here!

Wayne's Chill-Out OK Dec 23, 2014
Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Ice Cream and Gelato | Pasta

The used-to-be quiet Punggol Jetty has been converted to a busy park, with lots of space for families & couples to hang out with. Part of the area was also built with a two storey building where restaurants & eateries are located. The building is called "The Punggol Settlement".

The Punggol Settlement consists of a few seafood restaurants, bars & bistros, international cuisines, convenient stores & cafes. This trip of mine is to a cafe on the second storey called Wayne's chill-out. I remember dropping by during end july but they're still under renovation & finally they're in full operations now.

Wayne's chill-out has simple interior, other than the pretty chairs in bright orange & sky blue, they don't have much deco. The staff are young teenagers, probably on vacation job. This cafe mainly sells ice cream, waffles, coffee & pizzas. Ice cream selections have about 10. You could try out the flavours before ordering. Quite a number flavours tasted quite yummy. Due to the filling dinner earlier, our tummy can only store ice cream.

I chose Salted caramel in a waffle cone. Other than being a safe ice cream choice, the almond bits inside are so yum too. For my hubby's waffle, he had Cookies & cream ice cream + Coconut ice cream. The Cookies & cream is rather bland, no wow factor. As for the coconut ice cream, the coconut taste was rich & there are shredded coconut inside. Very interesting choice. Lastly, my brother chose another single scoop of Oreos banana... The banana taste was too overwhelming so couldn't taste the Oreo at all. Best if you're a nana-fanatics smile

Love the almond bits inside the ice cream. Waffle cone was good too

Conclusion: A cozy place to chill out, with a number of ice cream choices & waffle that tastes quite good. It is very breezy if you take the alfresco seats outside. My next visit here will definitely be for the pizzas smile

[Beegurt]

I was traveling around Thomson area, in search for food when this small little shop was spotted in a corner. Thomson V Two was the name of the building. My brother & I decide to give it a shot as the yellow logo quite attracts us smile

The unit was small, less than 10 seats,  and no decorations was seen around the interior. A very basic shop dressed in white. Nevertheless, we proceed to order our cold treat.

Beegurt basically sells frozen yogurt with New Zealand raw honeycomb. Their Beegurt special consists of yogurt with honeycomb + 2 toppings. Toppings from fresh fruits to nuts to chocolate & candies for you to choose from. For $6.80, the portion is abit small but taste won over the size..

I like their smooth yogurt texture with milky aftertaste & the honeycomb is good.. The sweetness is not too overpowering & I love it smile

It was drizzling outside while we are enjoying our frozen yogurt.. Cold weather is best accompanied with frozen yogurt or ice cream! Shiok to max!!
